This is the second time that I have stayed here, the first was in winter. I have found the room clean and the bed comfortable. The renovations have been progressing and although there is still a long way to go, the owner has been positive and accommodating to our needs. Thanks and we will be back.

I would never stay here again. The ONLY saving grace to this place is the pleasant fellow that works there, and the pleasant cleaning lady. The owner is rude, accusatory, confrontational, and extremely controlling. They don't take credit card reservations over the phone because she says it's fraud. Meanwhile every other major hotel chain on the planet takes reservations this way.
Wi fi rarely worked and only if I stood at my room door....ended up costing me $80 of data overages. They've got signs up that say "no marijuana" in the rooms. Too bad it's completely legal. This lady is out to lunch and has clearly no care for the customers that keep her business afloat.

Not too many budget motels are well maintained these days. The Lake Trail Motel is definitely an exception. It is better maintained than some of the hotel chains I have been staying at for business, Holiday Inn, Travel Lodge etc. The room service is very detailed. I stayed over the Thanksgiving long weekend, and they cleaned the room even during the Thanksgiving holiday! This will be my destination whenever a need to get a place in the Greater Hamilton Area.

Ms. Annetta if that’s really her name. This motel discriminates against young black man. The old man that owes the place says to the young the young man this is private property get off my property. He said how am I going to rate a room if I can’t come in the property. This is how you treat someone who comes to your business. Yeah I don’t think so, that was ignorant and rude. When I called the daughter was the most rudest customer service person I have ever met. I called there and she had attitude and when I questioned her about all the sudden not having a room after the young man had called and said they have no rooms. I said interesting and had nothing to rent until September 1/21. And asked how long I wanted to rent a room I said a night and she said we only rent by week. I said okay I rent it for a week and then said well I don’t have anything. So I took it upon myself at this point to go there and directly speak with her as long believed this was an act
Of discrimination. On the phone she had attitude when I asked her when was there availability on the phone. . I have a right to walk into the place and request information. I have the right to freedom of speak. This Annetta the old mans daughter if that’s really her name is the manager wow she needs some education how to run a business and be a business owner cause she says it her business not dads. She in her pyjamas, classy. So I walk in and say I have some questions for you. Why does it say outside this office vacancy? This nut bar Annette starts raising her voice to me and What she thinks she going to talk to me like that. Then I raise my voice and say what you don’t put your bo vacation sign up. By the way I Have a picture.) Also she starts threatening me that she has a camera record with audio which is against the law if it’s not posted. I also took a picture of her in her pyjamas. I will continue this story in another review.

Response from Lake Trail Motel, Owner at Lake Trail Motel
Responded Nov 14, 2021
This situation was one of the most unfortunate we have had to deal with at Lake Trail Motel I’m baffled to see this post as it was just recently brought to my attention, we had let it go and considered this was a situation of a person not being of sound mind at that moment. A young man and his friends had pulled to the back of our lot and park for 20mins in an area reserved for guests of the motel. This is a private property, but furthermore, because of the pandemic and social distancing/contact tracing, we do not allow loitering, or random visitors. We monitor the amount of people on our property, as with most businesses, there is a Covid screening process. The young man said he would like to rent a room, so he was directed to park at the front of the lot next to the office. He entered the office and requested a room, we only had one room left, he said he would like to rent the for the night, but currently we only rent weekly to which he agreed to rent it for the week. We require ID and credit card to stay, to which he said his “Aunt” would be coming to register him. The gentleman went back to his car now parked in front of the office and we all waited 20 mins for his “Aunt” During this time we were waiting, I received a call from an unknown woman asking for a room for the night, which I responded that we only do weekly, but currently we have no vacancy at this time (as the final room was being reserved for the man awaiting his aunt’s arrival). As this was our only room and he requested it, it would mean we would decline other potential business. We waited until after our close time 10pm for this person who I now know is the poster below named, Michelle W to enter the office with the gentleman, she was immediately hostile and accused me of lying to her on the phone about our vacancy. I tried to explain that this room is held for him, and we were all waiting his aunt to register him, however she remained irrational and aggressive. There was no reasoning with her, she was adamant I had knowledge of who she was and intentionally was refusing this gentleman, even though we were all standing in the office with the intention to register him. She then accused me of being racist and had the audacity to school me on being a woman of color who should “know better”. She claimed to have “money” and threatened to call human rights and ask them to stand outside my property and fine me if I rented a room to anyone because again, she didn’t understand that the only reason we would’ve had no vacancy was for the fact that this room was intended for this gentleman. This woman who was NOT a visible minority, accused me of a racism after grossly misunderstanding the situation, she lied, bullied, discriminated, and tried to intimidate. I was shocked and highly offend that this was her argument, this level of ignorance and attack will never be tolerated on our property. She was the only person who was asked to leave as she clearly had no intention on hearing reason. There was never any issue with this gentleman, we in fact stayed open past our closing time for him to arrange his payment, but we came to understand this woman was who he waited for. Everything in our office is recorded with a visible screen to the customer, plus she was told she is being recorded. Personally, or professionally, we will never tolerate or support this level aggressive bullying, or flippant accusation of racism. We maintain our strict policy of first and foremost respect for each other and our property. We may not all agree, but we follow our rules, and for this reason customers can feel safe and comfortable. As for Michelle’s “to be continued” end off, absolutely not, your hostility and aggression will not be welcomed or tolerated on this property.

Very unprofessional owner. She resorts to name calling, such as "prick", when we attempted to question some poorly maintained & malfunctioning problems in our room. Needless to say we chose not to stay and lost our $70. She was VERY defensive when you bring up your concerns, like the AC blowing the fuse. A professional business owner shouldn't take things so personally and instead help reassure the customer or better yet look into maintaining the state of the rooms. In fact, I brought up a possible solution was to switch to a different room with a different AC and preferably a non-smoking room since the smoke smell was stronger than I anticipated. She actually said it would cost us $95 dollars instead of $70 because we were giving her attitude! We have a 1 year old and 2 year old at home, rarely get out, had a wedding to go to and thought we'd save a bit of money getting a motel. And I know you get what you pay for but I never in my wildest dreams thought I'd ever encounter such a nasty, insecure owner. Please, please save your money and stick with hotels you know are reputable with mature owners/employees. We are happy to say we stayed at a friend's place instead and had an amazing time at the wedding. Not letting this horrible experience ruin our night. Lesson learned! No dumpy motels in our future.

I wanted to check in on September 13, 2011 at 6:00pm. The young girl from reception said they offer refrigerator in the room for people who stay at list 1 week and then encouraged us to see the rooms.
Every thing looks old and outdated, beds smells real bad, sheets are stained, rusted lamp, AC does not work and on and on.
The girl ask 70 CND plus taxes for two double beds room. I replay saying is too much for the way the motel looks and her replay was: well then forget about it
This is more an insolent replay than a civilized one.
I am 67 years old and traveled a lot in US, Canada and Europe but never ever in my life received such an impertinent replay
I was happy to leave

Response from justamention, Manager at Lake Trail Motel

Thank you for your response, and I'm sorry you feel that way. I clearly remember your visit, you viewed the room for a very short amount of time, and the only concern you raised was the lack of a fridge and the a/c which I turned on for you because it was unplugged. You sat with your family at our picnic table for 15mins deciding what you'd like to do, and then came to me and said you'd take the room if I could get you a fridge, I said I could not (non were available) you then decided to tell me my rooms were dirty, to this I responded with a shrug and said "then I guess there is nothing left to think about" everyone is entitled to their opinion however, if you are repulsed then I can not understand how a fridge would've helped you over look the so called stained sheets, rusted lamps and over priced room? I felt that your comment was uncivilized and spiteful because I would not move furniture around to suit you, this is an unreasonable demand on a busy friday evening without a reservation and only for a night. I encourage you to call ahead where ever you go if you have special request. The reason I encourage guest to view rooms is so they can decide if they are OK with the what is presented. Moving furniture around is not an option, if I had another room I would've offered it, but the two other rooms that suit 3 people were reserved.

I so wish I had checked trip advisor earlier, I would of then made another choice of places to stay. I smelt smoke and not just cigarettes and they have live ins I believe...walked past my window at night. No curtians on the windows to cover the blind that doesnt fit enough to block anyone looking in. I read the owners reply on the last review and was surprised they said new towels and furniture along with mattresses because it wasnt in my room. My chair in my room was so old my great grandma would think she is at home, but it goes with the rest of the room...old and out dated. I feel sorry for people trying to make it but please choose something you know about...and please try something else besides vinegar to clean with, I dont want to sleep in a room that smells like an order of french fries.

We stayed here for a few nights just to get away and we loved it. The lady who runs the place was very accommodating to us. Although things are a little out dated we had a lovely cottage like room with a small kitchenette and sitting area. Things were clean and we too liked that the cleaning lady came later in the day so we could sleep. (As another reviewer commented on that earlier) We will definitely be back likely during the summer so we can enjoy the nice tucked away beaches. Thanks for a nice few days away!

Was doing a job in Stoney Creek and stayed here over 2 weeks. I had two rooms for me and my worker. Very friendly owner. I had called before booking to make sure to get good rooms as we were working nights and sleeping in the day. Good beds, cleaner came in late in the day so we could sleep the day. We had no problem sleeping even though highway is close. We were happy with our stay here and would come back if we come again.
Thank you for taking good care off us.
