Midway down the Florida Keys, you’ll find an island called Duck Key. It’s small. Secluded. Yet central to Miami and Key West, and easy to reach by car, boat or plane. Duck Key has a few telltale Florida Keys features: Aquamarine water all around. Glorious sunrises and sunsets. An island sensibility that lulls you into a state of total relaxation – except for when you’re out fishing, snorkeling, paddleboarding or gliding along with the ocean breeze on a kiteboard. The best of the Keys is waiting for you at Hawks Cay Resort.

Since I use Tripadvisor reviews for all my trips, I feel compelled to write my first after I felt many reviews have been written for this property by people with personal stake in it's success. Many of the villas have private owners and I'm guessing they've written the stellar

I understand that Hawks Cay Resort suffered a staggering blow from last year's hurricane Irma. However, to look at it today, you would never know it! Major improvements have been made with the Resort's security, dolphin experience, restaurant (with an additional higher end

Expectations NOT met! Certainly not the resort that is advertised. Cheap beds, sheets, pillows. Every night room got hot. Room and hall smelled musty. Internet worked sporadically. Some interactions with staff surprised me with rudeness or flat-out being unhelpful. Added a

Experience was excellent. Room was excellently appointed, very friendly/professional employees throughout, enjoyed the bar and pool facilities. We were both highly pleased. The only negatives were: 1) that the place was overrun with small children - which I guess is not to be

Just returned from another trip to Hawks Cay. We’ve been several times in the past and this time were very disappointed by our villa. We have always stayed in Harbor Villas and were in one again this year, as requested. Unfortunately, this villa was bare bones and did not

Hi Kellie - we first started out in the marina and move to harbor village. I really think it’s a matter of personal preference. We didn’t stay long at the marina because the villa we were assigned was in bad shape. We moved to harbor view and the unit was better, but we still had problems. We liked the harbor village, because the villas backed onto a seaway/waterway and the boys could fish. I believe you can fish at the marina as well, but I believe harbor village was a little more secluded. The marina view faced the highway, but as far as I can remember it didn’t impact the enjoyment of the area. I don’t know about your current situation and whether you’re currently at the resort, but if you have the option to see both villas in person before making a decision I would recommend it. The villas are privately owned, so the upkeep/investment in the villas themselves is really in the hands of the private owners. I’m sure the resort puts some pressure on the owners to continue to keep the units modern, comfortable, etc., but considering the impact that the hurricane last year had on everyone, I’m sure there is currently some empathy/leniency to try and ask for more money to fix things. Unfortunately, the problem with the previous sentence is that your experience can potentially be based on whether you get a villa that has had regular upkeep and/or consistent investment (e.g. sliding screen door easily opens and closes, light receptacles that work, floor tiles that are not cracked, outside fans that work, etc.). I worked with the resort to ensure they fixed the issues, and they eventually did what was right. Again, I had to work on my vacation to make it right, and that’s the last thing i want to do on vacation. In the end, I believe the property is very nice, and will get better over time. I know the management is working hard with the staff to strive to provide an exceptional experience to the guests, and improve all facets of the resort including the villas. Hope everything works out for you, and that you have a positive experience. Mike

They do not offer an all-inclusive option. They have on-site dining options, or you will need to travel to one of the other keys for restaurants or fast food. The nearest grocery store is in Marathon about 10 miles away. We stayed in the main resort and our room had a mini fridge, but no microwave for warming food. If you order food at any of the restaurants or bars on the resort, you can have the bill charged to your room.

The Sunset Villas are a better option if you’d rather be in your own “house” with separate bedrooms and kitchen. You’ll have all of the same amenities as the hotel, which is a short walk from there. There is a pool for the Sunset units, so you may request a location closer to that. The beautiful sunset over the water is the attraction for that location as well.

Yes there are refrigerators in every room

Yes. Per day. Per accomodation. It is the Florida tax for resort facilities and is per cost of room, so a 3br place is simply more because of the cost per night, not the number of guests.
