This place seems to be relying entirely on its historic value to draw customers and, historically speaking, it is a very unique and interesting place....but don't expect to be welcomed just to step back into the lobby as a sign at the front door makes it clear that you are not welcome to step inside unless you intend to buy...

My wife and I stayed there one night and it was like stepping back in time. People were great, and setting was out of the past. We loved it. Everything worked well, and the food and service were good. We'll go back and spend a few days and do some fishing too.

We ended up in Everglades City on the way to the Keys, and were recommended the Rod and Gun club. And it was a bit like stepping into a parallel universe! Lots of stuffed animals in the public areas, and a live lizard on the wall in our room! Everywhere was very quiet - in fact, we were asked to...

A gracious, wide, serene verandah looking out at the Baron River was the setting for our lunch. We had the seafood salad - delicious. Marilyn, our server, was friendly and helpful. She filled us in on the history of this place. So glad we decided to try it! Wonderful to sit there and imagine what it was like years ago...

We ended up opting to stay in Everglades City after a day of exploring. We chose the Rod & Gun b/c they advertised cottages, full service restaurant and bar. I was pleasantly surprised, walking into the main lobby at the beautiful woodwork, large verandah and just an overall "Old Florida" feel. I immediately asked if they had a cottage available,...

You wouldn't think you'd get an excellent meal in this out of the way spot, but we had a delicious dinner there! Our server, Katie was gracious and efficient. We loved the Old Florida vibe and the place is so interesting with all the lovely polished wood and fun taxidermy animals....highly recomended !

We stop here yearly on our way to the Everglades. The restaurant has lovely artifacts and an interesting history. We sat out on the large balcony overlooking the water. We had shrimp baskets with fries and Cole slaw. It's a little pricey but good. The key lime pie is not to be missed.

Had a great fish sandwich at the Rod and Gun Club. I don't eat many fish sandwiches, but this was one of the best ones I have had. Fish heavy menu. Accommodated my moms shell fish allergy. Server was a friendly and quirky local. Really old place with lots of cool antiques. Lots of stuffed animals looking at you.

We were intrigued to try this place representing old Florida. The club house is all varnished wood and filled with extraordinary memorabilia. We had the little cottage right next to the water. It was small, tidy and absolutely quiet. Great night's sleep. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Everglade City is green, peaceful and moves at an easy pace.

We joined friends here who engineered a low expectation, but we had a excellent visit and a decent lunch on a sunny pool-side screened patio. A visit to this historic venue is worth a mediocre lunch. The club is stuffed with historical memorabilia and curiosities - bring a flashlight to illuminate the dark wood-panelled corners. We'd like to give a...
