The Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort boasts a coveted beachfront location that has garnered considerable praise for its easy access to both the tranquility of the beach and nearby attractions. While the resort's amenities, including the pool and on-site dining, are frequently lauded, some visitors have expressed concerns over the value, pointing to steep resort fees and additional costs. The rooms offer impressive views and comfort but have received a mixed response due to their dated appearance and cleanliness issues. Service is generally applauded, yet some guests have encountered sporadic lapses.

Pro’s- Great location central to plenty of bougie hotels & restaurants. If redeeming Marriott rewards points it’s a category 5 so it’s a great value when compared to category 6 & 7’s in the same vicinity (Sits between the Ritz & the W). Tashelle at the front desk provided superior service and got our vacation started off right by upgrading us to a corner room based on our requests. We really appreciated her attentiveness and friendliness. Resort fee included daily bike rental which is a great way to explore the area & Las Olas Blvd, The “Lona” restaurant is great for lunch. Even though there aren’t a lot of on-site dining options there are plenty of great walkable restaurants. Rooms have a fresh and soothing feel. I’m super particular about noises coming through walls from other guests and both times I stayed I couldn’t hear anyone next to or above me at night. Concierge is super helpful. I recommend picking their brain for area activities and restaurants. They really helped me narrow down the options.
Con’s-Pool servers could be more attentive, walking around regularly handing out menu’s, asking how to assist, etc. You do feel like you’re chasing the sun a little at the pool depending on the time of day and the location of the sun and the hotel towers. Don’t expect Starbucks to serve you decaf coffee 15 minutes before closing – they were closing up shop and unwilling to make decaf. Overall, a great area and property and I'm sure I'll return yet again in the future :)

We chose this hotel during COVID because it was right on the beach had a nice pool area. The hotel is old but over all the hotel is nicely renovated and rooms are very clean and well maintained (especially during COVID). The hotel is rated AAA 4 Diamond, but I would say it more like 3 Diamond. Being that it was not very full while we were there, there was limited services and some things we closed. The pool deck was very nice and there was a bar open during the day to get food and drinks. The beach was nice and the resort fee includes 2 chairs, but not an umbrella which is $25/day.

The Housekeeping Staff was very pleasant and helpful. The Pool Staff were also friendly and gave good service. The Front Desk Staff was less than friendly and helpful. The Bellman have to be asked to do their job as they will just stand playing on their cell phones. It is noticeable that during the beginning of the week when the occupancy is lower, there is less cleaning done in the public areas.

We had breakfast every morning in the Restaurant Tinta or Lona the service was outstanding. Jorge and Jaecenta (?) were fantastic! The restaurant is located on the street overlooking the beach it was great! Best part of the stay!

Given the numerous choices of hotels in the area, I would probably chose someplace else if we were to return.

Had a wonderful long weekend getaway. Stayed on points so booked intercostal water view room but they upgraded us to ocean view. The closer you get to the ocean , you will hear the major street traffic. North tower is a little further back with the pool deck helping buffer noise. South tower is right next to the road but probably have a better ocean front views. Bring a sound machine if this might be an issue for you. Mattress is heavenly as expected.
Breakfast was great and affordable. The restaurant is the same for all meals but has a different name for breakfast and lunch/dinner. With titanium level, you get up to 2 croissants with fruit and drinks. Adding eggs/protein was $8.00. It can get busy for meals so try to plan ahead using open table for reservations.
Never had an issue with getting chairs and umbrella but we were there early. By 11, the umbrellas were all taken but had plenty of chairs. There is a charge for the umbrella but worth it if you like shade. Resort fee covers very comfortable chairs only.
Rooms were nice and clean but sink counter space was limited. No issue at all with the shutters that many mention. Shower has molten brown refillable shower attached toiletries and then the typical Westin lotion. Enjoy the in room Starbucks coffee. No problem with housekeeping. They were pretty full for the holiday weekend plus valentines and still do not offer room service. I have been to other Westin’s lately that have room service so found that odd.
Look forward to returning soon and would stay here again without hesitation.

If you just want a clean, safe, and affordable hotel close to the beach, this one will do. But if you want a comfortable and well-designed room and responsive customer service, you should look elsewhere.

The biggest problem with this hotel is the unhelpful and seemingly apathetic customer service. During my stay (a family trip for several days around New Year's), we had to call the front desk three times for almost every request, whether our issue was serious (a broken toilet) or simple (we asked for bowls so we could eat cereal in our rooms). Each time, the front-desk employee would promise that they'd get right on it, and then it would never happen. It was completely inexplicable and the front-desk people never offered any explanation or serious apology.

When you're staying at a hotel like this, you should not have to ask for something so many times that you feel like you're being a pest in order to get what you asked for.

As another recent reviewer mentioned, the housekeeping services are very uneven in terms of what they replace. They replaced the free coffee every day, but not the cup sleeves or stirrers. And they replaced some towels but not others. When we called to request new towels of a particular size, the person who arrived brought the wrong towels.

There was only one bathrobe per room, when there should have been two, and it took several phone calls to get an extra one, which was simply baffling.

The common complaints on here about the bathrooms are exactly right. There is barely a door between the bedroom and the bathroom; it's just a thin, slatted wooden divider. As a result, there is essentially no privacy. People in the bedroom can hear and partially see what is happening in the bathroom. It makes absolutely no sense to design a bathroom this way.

The beds are double beds rather than queen beds, which is not ideal, but they are very comfortable and I slept well (which is rare for me in hotels).

I would echo what one of the recent reviews said about the high resort fee compared to what you get. If you're paying $40 per day, you should get an umbrella when you go to the beach.

The handful of minor amenities at this hotel — free cold water and a sunscreen dispenser near the pool and a decent selection food at the pool bar — are not enough to make up for its serious flaws.

Again, if you just want a place to crash after a long day at the beach, and you don't care how responsive the service people are to your needs, you will probably be fine staying at this hotel. But if you anticipate needing help with things (or you are understandably put off by the strange bathroom design), you might not want to take your chances here.

Further, we are disappointed to hear that the room design did not meet your expectations. The Positives
The hotel is in a great location, close to several things nearby
The room was very comfortable and we did not have an ocean view - some hotels dont provide the same quality rooms for non ocean views
The starbucks is convenient
The spa was wonderful

The Negatives
There is no privacy in the hotel- meaning there is no key card or anything required to get to the pool area. We overheard several people in the pool area mention that they were not staying at the hotel but just came to use the pool
The restaurants/drinks are terrible. The breakfast is possibly the best meal provided but nothing out of this world. If you order a cocktail be prepared for it to be very sour mix heavy and they will offer to fix it by charging you an extra $5 for a shot. you are better off ordering beer or wine something that doesnt need to be made.
The staff in the pool area is pretty awful. The area to get towels was not occupied 95% of the time because the workers were either playing cornhole with each other or hitting on some of the hotel guests.
You will never be able to "rent" the bikes, they only have 5 bikes and they cant be reserved and are a first come first serve basis. They also do not enforce the 2 hour limit. We rented elsewhere and it was a much better experience.
The resort fee falls short. If you are paying a resort fee I expect the people using the amenities to actually be guests of the hotel
It took 5 hours and 3 phone calls for someone to bring us towels to our room because we didnt have any and housekeeping never came one day
Very flat pillows

Lots of great parts and a few drawbacks.

Pro

Most of the staff were great, especially the front desk and housekeeping. Twice I called to asked to get my room cleaned and they came surprisingly quickly and did a great job.

The views are beautiful and access to the beach, fantastic.

Pool was the perfect temperature and a pleasure to swim, especially early in the am before getting crowded.

Room was very comfortable, including the beds and the showers.

Good location if you want to be on the main strip by the beach and walking distance to a lot of bars and restaurants.

Con

While I was happy to get a corner room, a little larger than the other standard rooms, it was strange that the windows facing the beach were clean, but the windows facing the side street were so dirty that I couldn’t even keep the curtain open.

The music at the pool was fun, but so loud that I couldn’t even listen to my own music with ear pods.

Speaking of the pool, they allow people
to put their towels on the lounge chairs and then leave. We got there before 10 am and about 3/4 of the chairs were already “reserved,” with very few people there. Also surprised that the chairs on the beach are provided, but they upcharge for an umbrella. Speaking of upcharges, I did not know that I’d be charged an additional $39 per night for resort fee.

The menu includes nothing I would call healthy - a veggie bowl or tofu wrap or veggie burger or stir fry would be a great addition for those who don’t eat meat or fried food. Speaking of food, the same for the Mexican restaurant. It has a giant menu, but not good vegan options.

We had read the many good reviews of this hotel, and we really liked the location. Also, we needed two rooms and the prices were reasonable. Maybe I should have been tipped off by the "reasonable prices" (especially at holiday time) - because the hotel overall was quite disappointing. We stayed here for 5 nights in late December.

The pros: great location and super easy access to the beach. Very nice towel and beach chair service (although for a "resort fee" of $39 per day, we expected an umbrella. These were $25/day) . The little store inside the pool area had nice salads, sandwiches and cookies. Lots of iced flavored water around. There was a large container of sunscreen on the pool deck - a nice touch. Another plus: Starbucks coffee in the room, replenished daily, although sleeves and stirrers were not.

Now the cons: it's a very large hotel, and it has a hectic feel to it. I didn't see any nice common areas to relax at inside the hotel. (Luckily we had good weather so we were outside most of the day.) There was a substantial line for check in and the room wasn't ready at 4:00.
The rooms: many design flaws. No balconies. Full beds, not queens (unusual nowadays). Worst part as others have mentioned are the bathrooms. No privacy, no actual doors to the bathroom.
Service: biggest disappointment. We had to make multiple requests for simple things like extra towels or stirrers for coffee, and often we never got the request after 2 or 3 calls. The replacement of towels was very uneven; you never knew what kind of towels or how many you'd get from day to day.

My final comment was that this really should be classified as a 3 star hotel. I think that would have really improved my expectations.

First, the hotel charged my card the full amount when my Booking.com reservation assured me that I would not be charged until arrival. I was then told the fine print said the hotel may charge a small fee prior to arrival. This should not be in fine print plus the full reservation amount is not a small fee. Second, we were told that the hotel beach had attendants who would assist us when we went to the beach. This was not the case for us. We were simply told to search for 2 chairs and were not even offered towels! However, I did notice other guests were politely escorted to chairs which were also rolled over and cleaned for them and towels were happily provided. Third, I purchased a $5.63 cup of java from the coffee shop located on their mezzanine. After signing my check with a Westin pen, I asked the clerk if I could keep the pen. She then grabbed the ten pens in the cup on the counter pulling them towards her and told me "no" she could not allow me to keep the one pen because people keep taking her pens. Well as a guest who just paid for a 2,000 vacation at the Wrstin, I did not think a .43 pen would break the Westin's bank. Please inform this cashier that this was poor customer service and that she does not own the pens. They are actually for marketing purposes. Prior to COVID, they were supplied in each room. Fourth, I went to visit the spa to make a reservation but decided to later cancel due to the lackluster treatment I received during the reservation process. Why would I spend 200.00 with them? I was concerned that my spa treatment would not be up to par. This is a beautiful property however as a mature black couple and HR professional, we were not treated with respect that we saw others being treated. There are other options.

From the moment we arrived the service staff was amazing. The luggage was quickly unloaded and the room was prepared early for our convenience, We stayed in a spacious room with two double beds. Very comfortable. The room had a loveseat that faced the beach which provided a lovely way to watch the sunrise and sunset. The hotel employee named Princess made my day by sending a decadent piece of chocolate cake to my room for my birthday. Thank you Princess!
The Westin is in the perfect location. A quick walk to anything and everything for entertainment or food. And the beach....all I can say is wow! We will stay here again

I did extensive research to find the best hotel for the money I was spending to stay a week in Florida. From the moment I walked in until the very last day I was greeted with the best customer service I have received from a Hotel probably ever. I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived to my room and opened the curtains to realize I had an amazing view of the beach that I didnt pay extra for. Wonderful on-site restaurant. Ate breakfast here each morning. Drinks are pricy at the pool bar but that is to be expected. Beach chairs are in fact complimentary/part of the resort fee. Do need to pay extra for an umbrella. The rooms are exceptionally clean. The house keeper on floor 14 *Venita* is just the best. Each morning when we left around 8:30am to eat breakfast by the time we returned we were stocked back up with Waters, bed made, and fresh linens. We even accidentally broke a glass and put a towel over it to worry about cleaning later and she had it swept right away! She remembered our faces and asked about our days. It was very personable. Now *Tashelle* at the front desk is top tier. Absolute ball of sunshine and personality. After taking a bike ride one evening we came back very hot, she had cold water bottles waiting for us! That blew me and my guest away. I expect the room to be nice and the hotel amenities to be what the hotel described (which they were) but I did not expect to like the employees as much as I did. These two ladies made my trip that much better I will be back and I hope to see them again!
