Despite its coveted location near beaches and attractions, the Bahia Mar Fort Lauderdale Beach - a DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel faces criticism from guests who question its value due to high costs and hidden fees. The hotel's rooms are often described as outdated and neglected, in need of a refresh. While the cleanliness is satisfactory overall, some visitors have encountered issues. Service experiences vary, with reports of both friendliness and inefficiency. The atmosphere is lively, with music energizing the pool area, though not all guests appreciate the volume. Amenities like beach access are notable, albeit with some maintenance concerns.

The location of this hotel is the only positive we have to share in our experience.
We found this hotel to be overpriced and over hyped for product and services delivered.
For our multiple day stay at the hotel for a wedding, it looked to be that the hotel had begun updating various aspects, putting fresh paint on certain areas but there is a long way to go to justify the prices they charge for every single thing. Only 2 of the 3 elevators worked during our entire visit causing wait times on average of 30 minutes for an elevator (stairs were our vice of choice, despite being on the 10th floor but they were not an option in heels and dressed in wedding apparel). Doors to get in and out of the stairways were stuck in many cases and the stairway itself was "gross". The water in the rooms was turned off at one point during our Saturday morning stay due to a malfunction somewhere causing us to be late for a gathering because we could not shower. We discovered this when we were trying to get the shower to work and there was no water so we called down to guest services and "oh, yes, there is a pipe problem...it should be working shortly". Parking was in excess of $40/day when fees were added in and the parking system was not properly working to swipe your key card for in and out privileges. A person had to take a ticket and then press the "help" button to exit, wait for valet to validate, on and on. We were on the harbor side with partial view of the ocean, however the "balcony" was barely large enough to stand on and it was SO DIRTY a person could not sit IN the room and look out because the glass was filthy. So disappointed to pay extra for this room option and view only to be mislead on the "balcony" size and to see the glass be SO dirty. The room seemed clean, very nice closet area that had extra space for suitcase and looked updated, bathroom shower needs updating and room in general needs updating.
The walkway that went from the hotel across the road to get to the beach was "closed" and did not look to be opening any time soon.
We looked at the room service menu and the charges for the option of room service were so excessive...surcharges, gratuity, more charges and that was before you even chose a food option. All of the restaurants, bars and the coffee shop at the facility were overpriced for products and services available.
No cookies on check-in - not a big deal but it is something Doubletree claims.
Discounts and/or refunds and/or complimentary food/meal, should have been offered as a courtesy gesture for all the inconveniences, closed services, malfunctioning items and issues experienced. I am not typically one to ask for this, but for the price we paid to stay at the hotel, a discount or complimentary drink/meal/etc. would be the very least the hotel could have done as a courtesy for the various issues. This was a very high priced hotel and the facilities certainly do not justify the price. We would look for an alternative place to stay in the future unless entire facility updates were made and we were able to secure a discounted rate.

Stayed one night precruise after being shuttled from another Hilton property which was overbooked. Check in was easy but this is not a great doubletree property. Very dated small rooms. Beds were comfortable and it was quiet and easy to sleep there is a bus stop nearby to go to 17th street. Beach is across the street and we found a nearby restaurant for dinner I prefer 17th street for convenience to eateries and shopping we were given compensation for the move and free transport to the port.

From the moment we checked in the staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. We received our cookies and water at check in. Anytime during our stay if we asked they gave us one or both. Our room was on the 16th floor and faced south with views of the pool, marina, and beach. It has a Juliette balcony (step out and stand only) The room was clean, and a nice size with a mini fridge, desk and table. It is true that they do not offer daily maid service, but when we saw them in the hallway, they were always willing to make up our room when we asked. The pool had plenty of chairs/towels, and a bar is open 5 days a week where you can use your drink tickets. The beach is across the street, and the attendant was always helpful getting our chairs and towels. If you enjoy walking, you can do it on the beach or the sidewalk that runs parallel to the beach and goes for miles. There is also a water taxi stop a short walk from the hotel. The only reason I didn't give this property 5 stars is because the restaurants on property were still not open, and you had to take your breakfast coupons next door to a convenient store where the choices were not great. There are shops on the property mostly geared toward nautical items since it is next to a marina, but everyone was very friendly and helpful. One piece of advice when booking is: this property has a main tower and a 4 story out building make sure you know in advance which part of the property you are booking in so you are not disappointed upon arrival. To sum up, the staff was accommodating, the property clean and restaurants were a short walk away. For the value, I would choose this property again.

My first review in 50 years of winter vacation travel. As suggested in the booking website, I emailed the hotel admin requesting a lower floor when I booked. I arrived to a room on the 11th floor. Upon entering the room we could smell the musty odour coming from the old wet carpet in front of the patio door. Obviously the door was left open during a rain event causing the wet carpet and insulation throughout the front portion of the room. It took a few days to dry out. I could barely see the view below through the dirty glass through the door, or through the dirty patio glass. The holes in the walls were horrendously patched with unsanded plaster and paint. I have never been mislead about the option to have an ocean view w balcony before. There aren’t balconies at all. A small 3 ft. space you can stand on, if you’re so inclined (and have the nerve). As the marketing photos depict, I thought it would be nice to walk across the advertised ‘bridge to the beach’. The bridge is closed, obviously decaying and partially demolished. Our room rarely had enough water pressure to shower or flush the toilet. The poorly repainted old bathtub was dirty and peeling. The tiny camping fridge they provided in the dresser was broken and fell over every time you open the door. It is truly unfortunate that the Hilton Corporation would engage in marketing this run down hotel to myself and other unsuspecting consumers as a beautiful resort hotel. Personally, it takes us all year to save that $3000 for a winter vacation. For that price, and from the photographs that depicted a beautiful resort property, we were expecting just that. Hilton, this is “in no uncertain terms” misleading and unethical to your demographic. Stop it.

Good location, nice pool area/building and friendly staff, but that’s about all it has going for it. Some guest rooms appear recently renovated, but the property still has some deferred maintenance and seems to be poorly managed. We stayed for a week while on business and our group’s experience was:

+ Property was grossly oversold.
+ Some previously confirmed rooms were given to other guests unrelated to our group.
+ Some of our group received downgraded rooms, but were still charged for original more expensive room type. Switching rooms on a later day was permitted, but the process was very cumbersome and time consuming; staff seemed inconvenienced by these requests as well.
+ Long wait for elevators! Only two working elevators in the 16-story property. One of the two elevators was down for part of a day, leaving only one elevator in service! We took the stairs often. Beware: High floor = longer elevator wait = longer walk down/up the stairs.
+ Staff use guest elevators as service elevator was not working.
+ Staff leave housekeeping carts on floor in hallway to avoid having to transport it up/down limited elevators.
+ No bath towels in room.
+ No towels at pool.
+ Shower had limited water pressure.
+ Shower temperature fluctuated greatly.
+ Room was missing a light bulb.
+ Pedestrian overpass to beach closed.

Another guest told me they had stayed at the property a year ago and the same non-functioning guest elevator (#3) was not in service when they had previously stayed at the hotel.

Had to switch rooms two times due to the slamming doors. The rooms were nice, the beds were comfortable, but it was really stressful being in the room because i knew any second one of the guest room doors would slam shut. We were in the main tower and it didn't matter which room a guest was entering or leaving from - the slamming door could be heard throughout the floor. they REALLY need to address this, or at a minimum, put a sign on the front and back of the doors reminding guests not to let the door slam. that would have made a HUGE difference in the stay! I would not stay at this facility again for that reason.

Also i stopped by the pool, there were no towels available, the attendant was gone for over 30 minutes (without a replacement) and we finally gave up and went to the front desk for a couple towels.

The cafe inside the hotel by registration is SUPER expensive.. crazy costs for a small basic coffee. Better to go to the little market across the driveway.. also very expensive, but a small savings..

The upgrades and touches Hilton made/is making to the Bahia Mar are AWESOME!! SPECTACULAR!!!

The Bahia Mar has gone from Motel 6 to the Ritz Carlton in the past 6 years. I've been staying at this property on and off since the early 2000s and amazed at the capital Hilton is investing in it!

Location

Located on Seabreeze Blvd/A1A in the southeastern tip of Ft Lauderdale, the Bahia Mar is a resort unlike any other I've ever vacationed at. A sprawling complex with a world class yacht/ship marina, it is not wedged into a compact space like most other hotels along the A1A. The structures are painted pristine white, the grounds kept impeccably clean and the landscaping is world class!

The Pool

This is the marquis of the Bahia Mar. No other hotel along the A1A has an Olympic size pool with a massive deck and lots of seating! Not one but TWO bars and a grille, 3 large cabanas, a pool table, hot towels and complimentary fruit infused ice water earns Hilton an A+.

The Rooms

Bahia Mar has oceanfront suites and ROH rooms that are North and South facing. My first trips here were in ROH rooms but I began reserving an oceanfront suite 6 years ago. The oceanfront suites are East facing and breathtaking......a huge living room and bedroom EACH with a Juliette balcony. Both rooms are exquisitely appointed with an awesome South Florida motif! The bathroom is on suite with a large walk in shower. The views are breathtaking.....waking up every morn, looking out the sliding glass door to a magnificent sunrise!

The Food

Amazing! Top notch! Whether you dine at Breezes, Bahia's restaurant, or across the driveway at The Market, the food is awesome. A tad pricey but its South Florida! I ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Bahia and everything I ordered was A+!

My 2 favorite Italian ristorantes a short walk from the Bahia are Bocchino and Spazio! Bo's Beach is across the street from the Northern edge of Bahia Mar's property serving South Florida cuisine. I had a dish called Shrimp and Grits and it was outta this world!

The Staff

Some of the nicest folks I've ever encountered in my travels around the world work at the Bahia Mar. Pleasant, always smiling, quick to say hello and engage you in brief conversation whether they are menial or executive staffers! I am quite the extrovert, so my interactions with most staffers was very cool!

Finis

I've traveled round the world and stayed in many world class resorts. For me, the Bahia Mar is the Holy Grail! As soon as Hilton begins accepting 2021 reservations, I will be booking my suite!!

Staff seemed uninterested in helping guests. We made several requests for towels or linens to be sent to our room over our stay and not once did they deliver them to the room. The elevators broke frequently and one morning my friends and I waited 25 minutes for an elevator to take us to our room. Worst of all, the chair in our room had a crack in it and we noticed it toward the beginning of our stay. I went to the front desk and informed them of the issue and they said that it wasn't a problem and they would send someone to see if it could be repaired within an hour. Guess what, not only did we not get a new chair, nobody ever came to the room to look at it and we were charged over $100 for "damages" that we had not caused. Save yourself some time and frustration and go somewhere else.

Upon checking in I have called the front desk to make sure we were able to check in early cause wife is pregnant. On the phone the lady told me :"that's not a problem we have room ready " when I get there she told me that she is sorry there is no room available for checking at the moment. I told her she is lying because I just spoke to xyz on the phone from this property and the person told me yes. Find out it was here name , she was the one on the phone.

Diamond members beware the location is great but the hotel and the staff are not friendly at all. Housekeeper lady always on her phone, when you ask her for some towels she is quick to tell you to go to the front desk.

The comp
first restaurant is known as the Marketplace. You have to leave the hotel and walk across the parking lot to get there. This is not a restaurant, it is slightly better than a convenient store. The continental breakfast consisted of a tray with a muffin, several slices of watermelon and a yogurt. You could also take a cup of pre-packaged sugary oatmeal and a cup of hot water. We tried lunch one day there.
Their second restaurant is attached to the pool. The hours were extremely limited and did not even open until 2pm.

What really upset me is on the day before last there was people on our flour smoking ask the front desk to switch room and she didn't even try to accommodate. That’s how you treat a diamond member?.

In case anyone is wondering, at the present the $37 resort fee entitles you to two chairs at the beach, towels and one hour per day access to five bikes.

This property is in a prime location (can walk to everything) and has a nice pool. If you plan to rent a car be aware they have exorbitant parking charges. Also during our stay we had issues getting our room cleaned or even fresh towels/washcloths. Really frustrating to call for service and then come back in the evening to find service hasn't been done and you don't have towels to take a shower!! This happened twice during our 6 day stay. Staff didn't seem to care at the front desk. I would choose another hotel if I come back to this area.
