Overall this hotel was great! As a Marriott faithful, I still very much appreciated my stay at this property. The front desk personnel was great and very accommodating! The room was clean and my bed was comfortable. My only complaint is the way the bathroom is configured. When the door to the bathroom is open you can’t access the sink. Otherwise, I had a great stay and I would definitely stay here again!

First, I'll say the staff were friendly and tried to behave as professional as they could. BUT, during the COVID 19 times, the hotel has decided not to clean the rooms while you are there. Sorry, but this is out of line. The Hotel staff could at least have a compromise to have a person clean when you left the room to go someplace. Also, unlike the Embassy Suit Hotel, I visited before this one, if I needed extra towels, shampoo, etc... it was brought to my room. Sometimes, because of COVID 19 only as far as the door, but to me. I wasn't required as a Gold Member to come to the reception and wait in line to get it. The Hilton (The Hotel carrying the name of the Hilton Honors...) decided against that. I'm sorry, but this is the service one would expect at the Motel 6, NOT at a Hilton.
Yes, I understand you must take precautions because of the pandemic, but there are ways to give a Guest service without forcing them to sleep in a messy room and wait in line to get a tiny bottle of shampoo because the hotel left one little bottle for two people.
So, Since the Hilton University of Florida, neglected to do like all Hilton brand hotels have done in the past and send me an email asking me to rate my stay, at hope you are reading it here. I will give you an idea of how other Hotels are acting more professional with Gold Member Guests during the pandemic.
If a person needs something for their room, a person comes immediately and has the stuff sitting outside the room, and the guest doesn't have to go downstairs to the reception and wait in line.
If a guest wishes to have his/her room cleaned, then to ensure the staff are safe, have it clear that when the team comes, the guest is to vacate the room. A friend brought up the point of any virus lingering in the room even though the guest had left, well, how long do you wait before cleaning the room after the guest checks out? These are two ideas to consider.

This hotel used to be the "go to" hotel for University of Florida (UF) guests, until the Eleo Hotel was built a couple of years ago. It offers an outdoors swimming pool and a gym. As its name indicates, it also has the infrastructure to hold conferences. There is ample (free) parking in front of the hotel, which is shared with some other business (I believe it is some government agency).

The hotel was very clean and the hotel staff very polite. All hotel staff were wearing masks, which is reassuring. However, very few guests did. My room was in one of the higher floors, overlooking the parking, so it was very quiet. One unusual thing regarding the room was that now the default is NO cleaning during your stay . If you need room cleaning or fresh towels, you need to call the reception and ask. They are pretty good at follow through with such requests though.

The breakfast is kind of unusual too, especially for Hilton hotels. There is a small snack area where you can ORDER your preferred breakfast (mainly sandwiches and bagels) like in McDonalds and then pay. The breakfast is delivered in a brown bag, because there are not too many tables to sit in this small area. You can go outside where there are few more seats or to your room. I am not sure if this is due to COVID, but I was not thrilled by this accommodation. Thankfully, there are a number of places in the surrounding malls that you can get a better breakfast and eat it too.

The hotel is conveniently located at the border of UF, but it is still a good 40-50 min walk to reach most of the colleges. In addition, all shopping and eating places around there are in malls that are also in similar distances. With a car you can reach ll these places in 5-10 min. Downtown Gainesville is a 10-15 min drive.

Second time at the hotel. Service and accommodations were very good. I'd recommend automatic hand sanitizing stations throughout the lobby and outside the elevators on each floor. That aside, I'd definitely stay here again.

I chose this hotel as I felt very comfortable when I spoke with them re: their COVID measures. I felt comfortable with their sanitation measures and their room rotations. I am a Hilton Honors member and I usually stay at all of their hotels. The hotel was very nice and my room was on the 6th floor and was very quiet. However, 2 situations were extremely concerning-which is why I may not stay here again. Two separate front desk clerks were wearing their masks incorrectly (under their nose). This was extremely concerning as the clerks don't always stay behind the glass (i.e. one clerk came out from behind the desk to hand me extra towels). As I am trying to take all precautions, this made me feel very uncomfortable. Also, my room smelled very musty (bad). I actually dreaded coming back to the room after dinner due to the smell. I think it was coming from the carpet. It was so late and I did not want to change rooms, in case this was a problem in all the rooms.

Disclaimer: My wife and I are both Diamond members and have stayed at thousands of Hilton properties over 30 years.

The first curious experience when arriving at the hotel is that there is no bell-hop. The carts were lined up in the atrium in much the same way as they would be at a Hampton Inn or Hilton Garden Inn. Not a problem, and I got my kids to load the cart. But this is not how Hiltons normally work.

We arrived at 5ish, and the reception desk was busy. There were only two people working and, clearly, only one of those receptionists knew how the admission process worked. The line began to snake around the lobby area. There were a lot of group bookings for HS sports teams, etc. There began to be a lot of angry people.

When I was finally seen, I asked for the Hilton diamond upgrade. The receptionist said that no upgrades were available because “the sales office controls that.” I asked what that meant, because, as far as I was concerned, the “sales office” was the hotel. He then asked me if I had bought the room using money rather than points. I said that I used one of my earned certificate nights. At that point he said, given that, I was not eligible for an upgrade. I reminded him that this is not Hilton policy, and he said that he would get the general manager to call me.

The hotel room was dirty, clearly not having been cleaned since the last occupant; the linen was replaced, but the trash cans still had evidence of the prior resident. The pillows smelled like they hadn’t been washed for many visits. The grout in the shower was moldy. The HVAC didn’t work; we set it for 68 overnight, and, with the room thermometer that I always bring, the temperature never dropped below 76. And this is in February, Florida.

We went for breakfast the following morning, and, unlike all other Hiltons, this does not have a buffet option. Instead, they offer a menu option in their bar. Certainly, the eggs benedict at $16 is not unreasonable, but the coffee is 4, the juice is 5 (per glass), a pastry is 6, etc. And there is no mechanism to have, with one’s omelet, a single slice of bacon.

Hilton should downgrade this property to an HGI or even an Hampton Inn. It does not provide the service level one would expect with the Hilton designation.

Btw, still no call from the manager, as promised.

My company but several rooms for a conference that we were having at UF. I first want to highlight the great things about staying here because they far outweigh the few negatives.

#1: We specially reserved a hot breakfast Buffett at the no-name lounge for all conference attendees and there was an employee, Edrickson Pierre, Who was exceptional in all regards. Even though it was very early in the morning, he was friendly and helpful every single morning. He frequently checked on each individual that were enjoying their breakfast and immediately cleaned once someone had departed. It made me start my day with a smile and positive attitude so thank you to that great employee! The food was also a wide variety and tasty.

#2: LOCATION! It’s so close to campus that you can walk if you want to get your steps in lol. If not, a very short drive! Less than 5 minutes.

#3: Friendliness of the night staff. During my stay, the front desk staff were men during the late evenings. Every time I would come in from the conference or come downstairs to use the computers they were very helpful and kind. A little goes a long way and kindness is especially appreciated with all that’s going on in the world.

Cons:
#1: Housekeeping didn’t do a great job with cleaning my bathroom, there were strands of hair in towels, in the sink and in the tub. However, my bed linens were clean and the bed was made neatly so I’m thankful for that. Also, the lobby and downstairs look very modern and new but the rooms are dated and need some renovating.

#2: Day time front desk staff can use a little more training on friendliness. A woman named Victoria checked me in and she was curt and unhelpful. She didn’t greet me and looked to me as if i was annoying her when i asked her questions about my stay and what was included. The other staff members just awkwardly looked at her instead of giving her a nudge to be kinder or offering to help so overall a chat about greetings and pleasantries and getting a manager when a guest asks for something beyond your training would help !

Overall, I would stay at the Hilton again if I visit Gainesville.

Good Morning, Above all else, I would like to start by personally thanking you for sharing your feedback with us. While it is always great to read the exceptional experiences of most of our guests, it is imperative that we learn of any areas of opportunity so we may grow and improve. We are so sorry to read of the less satisfactory experience you had with the daytime agents at the desk. Please know I have personally shared this review with our team to act as a training module to ensure no guest has an experience like this in the future. We do hope you will allow us the opportunity to regain your trust and confidence in the future.

The Hilton is a good place to stay when visiting the University of Florida. We experienced a couple of minor problems one of which was corrected right away while the other was beyond their ability to fix (a lack of a nightlight). Breakfast in the hotel was very good. But I recommend that you get it included with your room rate as it saves you more then 50% if you are getting more then just coffee and a pastry.

Hilton needs to understand that cleaning is the first step in sanitizing. Public areas, hallways, elevators were a disgrace. Housekeeping requires a 24 hr request that they forgot to mention. Used glasses left out in the lounge the next morning. Wastebaskets overflowing. Dust accumulated in rooms. Piles of dirty linens left in the hallway. This is not being COVID safe. Hilton needs to hire more staff and pay them a decent wage. They should stop taking advantage of the pandemic to boost the bottom line..

I seldom write reviews. This hotel was clean and that is most important to me. I was forced to go to Florida during the pandemic and the numbers are sky high here. Now is not the time to tell your guests that the hotel does not have wash cloths. I asked two days in a row and the front desk told me they don’t have wash cloths! What. In. Tarnation?? I am so paranoid about germs I took two showers today and yesterday. With NO wash cloth! I am amazed this is a Hilton.
Staff is nice and friendly but I wouldn’t say very helpful if they can’t find a couple of wash cloths in a hotel for days. Sorry but not acceptable.
