The Margaritaville Beach House Key West offers a vibrant, tropical atmosphere that many guests find welcoming. Travelers commend the hotel for its cleanliness and enjoy the convenient shuttle service and close beach access. While the service receives praise for its friendliness, some guests encounter inconsistencies.
The hotel's location is generally well-liked for its proximity to Smathers Beach, yet a few guests mention the need for a car. Rooms are considered clean and spacious, though some report issues with mustiness. However, the value for money is a concern, with high resort fees and extra charges being a common complaint.

Everything about this place was amazing! The location can’t be beat as it’s just across the street from Smathers Beach and easily accessible by foot. The shuttle was a lifesaver and we used it frequently to get to and from downtown. Entire complex was clean and inviting. Hope to return again!

We love Key West!! The hotel is just a few minutes from the airport and they provided a shuttle to/from the airport. We had a day of rain that quickly passed so that we could enjoy the rest. Smathers Beach is just across the street so we were able to go every day. I must say it's one of the most beautiful beaches in Key West. It's not overly large and certainly not packed with people. It is very well maintained each morning as they drag the sand and clean up the seaweed debris. There are chair rentals right on the beach and a restroom facility right as you go onto the beach.
The hotel: MKWBH is very pretty. The lobby is beautiful and we were welcomed by some wonderful staff. The restaurant and bar are right outside of the lobby and although they have a smaller food menu, the service and food in the restaurant and bar was always excellent!
We stayed in a king ocean view suite and woke up each morning looking out at the ocean. Perfection!
Here's the cons: The rooms really need updating, especially the bathrooms. The tile in the shower is very old school and has to be hard to keep clean. If they would make these upgrades, it would definitely get 5 stars. Also, our package included a daily resort credit of $50 to use however, the daily resort fee exceeds that amount so while you think you can "go shopping", you really aren't getting anything free.
Pool is nice but small. However, there was plenty of seating around the pool, towels provided, and bar service available. It's a great vibe!!
We rented a moped/scooter and my husband and I rode all around the island. We used the great hotel shuttle a few times to go downtown and it was nice. There is really no need to get a car unless you plan to travel north of Key West. Our "excursions " included a cruise on the S/V Argo Navis sunset cruise which is 5 stars and we went on a jetski tour around Key West. Amazing!!!
Margaritaville, it's time to do some upgrades so that you can roll into the 5 star category and be on top of the competition!

Dear Happiness08841417360, Thank you for staying with us and sharing your experience. We truly value your time and feedback. We are glad to hear you enjoyed Key West in general and your time at our property. In 2020 we underwent an $18 million renovation to create a leading resort experience with a tropical pool upgrade, newly installed lush landscape, a new lobby, and a complete transformation of all 186 spacious suites. We added another $3 million in further enhancements in 2021 as well. That being said, unfortunately at this time we do not have plans for another renovation after such a short time period since our last renovation. We thank you for staying with us and look forward to your next visit! Warm Regards, Management Team

My son got married on Smather's Beach, across the street from Margaritaville Beach House in Key West, on July 20th. The reception right afterward, was in the Tiki Hut at Marg Bch Hse. Before the reception, there was a cocktail hour on the property, in a very pretty (but hot!) garden.
The weather during our trip was predictably very hot & humid, but our room A/C, and the hotel's, was awesome. The pool was great, and offered some nice shady areas. The restaurant also offered shade, as did the ground floor bar area.
The rooms were pricy, but very nicely laid out, such that our (King) bed was almost in a totally separate room and had a pull-out couch in the living area. We had a balcony, mini fridge, and microwave. The hotel supplies fruit, coffee, pool towels, etc. The resort fees are high at $54 a day. The resort's shuttle, btw is terrific and dependable, going from the airport and also into "town".
The people who worked at the wedding did an A+ job, and I am so happy my son and daughter-in-law chose Margaritaville Beach House. Some of the names I recall are: Beide, (bartender), Brianna (server), and I think Sam, Edger, and Nancy. I hope I'm not leaving anyone out, but everyone did a wonderful, professional job. They were on top of everything.

Great value! Many amenities! Perfect for family with kids. I looked at many places in Key West before deciding on Margaritaville Beach House. The main reasons I chose it was because it’s kid and family friendly (pet friendly too). Plus, it’s very affordable compared to other places in Key West. I saved $4,000 by staying here instead of close to Duval street. The resort is very lax on use of pool towels which was nice. They are included in a daily resort fee. However, there are no additional charges for parking or internet.
The things I didn’t like were all offset by the price savings. The cons for me were the relatively small size of the pool which was a disappointment to my teenage son. Although my younger two children were fine with the pool which does have a small waterfall feature (no slide). Also, there is no laundry facility on site. You can pay to have same day dry cleaning/laundry services, however, with a large family I decided to just make one trip to a local laundry mat. The final con for me was the shuttle pickup. It only picks up and drops off at one location in town and it’s a long walk from Duval Street to the drop off point. With young kids it’s almost impossible to make the walk from the drop off point. We ended up driving our car and parking near or on Duval street instead. We always found parking with no trouble. It is about $20 to park at most places.
The Margarita Beach House is across the street from Smathers Beach, however, due to the seaweed and smell from the seaweed we never used the beach there. Instead we found the beach at Fort Zachary Taylor was much nicer but you’ll need to drive there. You definitely need a car if staying at Margarita Beach House unless you are ok with walking long distances and waiting for the shuttle which is often full. If you want a place that’s close to the main attractions this is not the place for you.
The resort offers a lot of extras like bagged ice, free lemons and limes, free coffee, free water, smoothies for kids at 12 pm, popsicles for kids at 2 pm, and cookies for kids at 4 pm. The bathrooms include free regular size bottles of pump soap, lotion, shampoo, conditioner and body wash that will last an entire family a whole week. It’s a very fun and laid back atmosphere with lots of Jimmy Buffett music and references. With resort credits we were able to eat $125 in food and drinks for free!!!
Overall, if you are looking for a good value and money left to spend on eating out and experiencing all the sites of Key West then Margarita Beach House is a great choice.

I really want to give this hotel a higher rating but I just can't because of the cleanliness (or lack thereof) of our room. There are so many positives about this hotel. The location across the street from the beach is great. All employees were nice and helpful. The shuttle service was wonderful (although the shuttles were often full and we would have to wait an extra 20 minutes for the next one) but that really wasn't a big issue. Loved the lobby and the pool. We had breakfast at the lobby restaurant and it was absolutely wonderful. The room was just gross though. It had the overall feel of an old motel. We had a two bedroom (king bed in 1 room, bunk bed in 2nd room and a kitchenette/ sitting area in between). It's a perfect layout for a family with 3 kids and that was the main reason we chose this hotel. Unfortunately, when we arrived to our room, the toilets were not clean and the sheets were stained with lots of hair. Overall, the room feels very old and in need of a refurbishment. Toilet seat was cracked and yellow. It just felt gross. And at the end of the day, if you aren't comfortable sleeping and showering in your room, it's just not a place that I can recommend. If they put a little TLC into these rooms and improved housekeeping (replace old toilet seats, throw out stained sheets), it would be a great hotel!

Before check out I would’ve given the resort a lower review but after my experience with Mimi sorting out my rate issue I was dealing with for 2+ weeks I increased my rating. When I booked after I hit book my confirmation email didn’t match the rate that showed in the screen before and it took 6 calls and then telling me I would be called back over and over again to get fixed which finally got fixed with Mimi at check out. Rooms get 3 stars because of bugs, location, and ease of access. Bugs are inevitable in Florida but there were a lot and I think they could decrease the amount by wiping down the walls and countertops more thoroughly. The rooms are hard to access if you don’t want to/can’t walk stairs. We had a stroller and could only use one elevator to get to our room. Access to each room is from outdoors. Another downside was that we constantly saw people letting others into the pool area that were not staying at the resort. One one occasion (Monday Sept 30th around 6pm) we saw 5 individuals in the pool, none with wristbands and 2 of them get picked up by an Uber, smoking weed and cigarettes inside the pool, drinking Jim beam straight out the bottle. An employee stocking the towels walked past them 2 times and didn’t say a word. Not only are you not supposed to have outside alcohol or be smoking anywhere near the pool, they shouldn’t even have been on the property. In addition to that, they all looked about 15-18 years old. Service was excellent, Levan and Sam were great bartenders. Front desk was very nice. John at the excursion desk was very helpful. Food and drinks were amazing. It smelled horrible anytime you stepped foot out your room but I think it was from the seaweed or hurricane that just hit the day prior to our check in. The beach was also covered in seaweed about 5 feet along the shoreline so you can’t even go there. There was construction going on on the road outside the resort AND at the resort so the entire time at the pool you heard saws, drills and hammering. This doesn’t bother us too much because we travel often and see this often.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We truly apologize for the troubles faced during your stay, especially with reservation troubles and the undesired incidents at the pool area. It’s heartening to know that I could assist in resolving the rate concern and that you found our service staff and offerings at the bar commendable. We also thank you for appreciating John's help with excursions. Our goal is to ensure that every guest has a comfortable and pleasurable stay with us, and we're sad to learn that we didn't entirely meet your expectations this time. We hope that despite these concerns, we will get another opportunity to welcome you for a better experience. Fins up !

What a great place to enjoy the summer sun by a great pool and across the street from one of the few beaches in KW. This place allows you to relax by day then hop on a convenient shuttle to town at any hour between 9A-11P. The place is very clean, and I have to give a special shout out to Agata and Vladimiro. They were always available near the pool area cleaning and giving tips about the area. Agata is such a hard worker !

We booked 9 nights at the Margaritaville Beach House Key West Feb 20 to 28 at a rate of ~$1,525 after 12.5% tax and a $48/night "resort fee". This was for a two bedroom suite with kids bunk beds (kids room also had a washroom). The rooms were nice, well appointed, comfortable, spacious and clean. Having said that we rate this hotel as POOR on the basis of value and the brand's misrepresentation of this property to prospective guests.
There were several things that impacted our perception of the property. The first is the location adjascent to the airport. Planes are coming and going regularly. The rooms do a good job of insulating the sound with the air conditioning fan on full, but there's no mistaking the added noise level when you are outside your room.
The second is the lack of a view. At $1500/night our view was inward to the hotel common area. You'd be generous to call it a garden view and certainly there is no wakeup to a sunny morning nor is there a balcony. The entry to the suite was overlooking the parking lot and garbage bins and beyond that the airport.
The third is the pool experience. The pool, pool deck, and hot tub are significantly undersized for the number of guests. The pool is FULL of people and with the Margaritaville party music cranked it feels like controlled chaos. You could escape across the main road to the beach and pay $15 a day for a chair but you'll not have ready access to any amenities. In short, don't expect to sit by the pool and relax.
By the second day we'd decided to move to another hotel and after the third night we were lucky enough to find one across the island that was less money at $950/night, on the water (with water view), and had a wonderful pool experience (still family oriented).
One other small item of feedback for Margaritaville: the housekeeping service did not clean the kids bathroom or make the kids bunk beds once during our 3 night stay. We mentioned this as feedback at checkout and the desk offered to remove the $48 resort fee from our bill. Which was a nice gesture. However the resort fee was ultimately not removed from our bill. We noticed this after we'd departed and while we appreciated the intent, this failure to follow-through seems telling.
The staff were nice, the room we stayed in was nice, however the experience was ultimately compromised by the location, design, and pricing of the hotel. If this were a $500/night hotel our rating would probably be different.

We have mixed emotions about our stay but we'll start with the positives: shuttle service drivers: Johnny, Jeremy and LuAnn were amazing - always interacted with us and have great suggestions for site seeing. Chris at the front desk is literally the reason why we'd consider another stay at this hotel. He was authentic, patient and shared more about the hotel amenities than any other front desk person and concierge. There was also one upstairs night bartender who was super friendly and willing to make you any drink possible which was lovely after a long day on Duval Street.
Our pauses was the upkeep of the hotel for the amount paid per night plus resort fees. Baseboards were damaged, fitness facility had one tread, missing 10lb weights, and no fans which it surprised us for Florida. Fitness room did have apples, towels and water which was nice. Food prices seemed high and it pushed us to eat in our room or travel to Duval which wasn't always convenient. Fire alarms went off one night 2-3 times at 3am and no communication to the guests the next morning that everything was OK. City turned off water supply in the middle of the night the following night after the alarms and they communicated that, but still was an inconvenience to not flush the toilet and wash hands with bottled water.
Not huge issues and we had more positives than negatives but I expected more from this brand name.

This is a very nice, lively resort, but not close to Duval Street. We chose it because it is across the street from Smathers Beach, but because of the sargassum, we could not use the beach. (not the hotel's fault). The resort has a free airport shuttle, and free shuttle every hour to go downtown. We used it daily. This was a great perk, because each ride service was approximately $20 to Duval Street. The restaurant, pool area and bar are very nice. We received great service at the restaurant and bar. The food was very good. Victor, the bartender, was the best! The grounds are beautifully landscaped. The rooms were spacious, bright and for the most part, clean. There were a few stains on the sofa, which we covered with a sheet, a few mildew spots in shower. There are Keurig coffee makers in each room, and in the hall on each floor along with oranges, lemons and limes. We were happy we were in an outside room, because it seemed like the music started in the pool area pretty early. At check in, we requested a late check out but were told they don't offer that. They told us there were showers in the gym, and they could hold our luggage. On the day of check out, we asked again, and for $150, we were permitted to use our room until 3:00 p.m., which, although we felt was costly, worked for us, as our flight did not leave until 5:00 p.m.
