Our new favorite place to stay when we go away. The M&A was an oasis and so secluded. The rooms and grounds were second to none. Diana and staff were so helpful and great on every level. Excellent location, quiet and just an amazing stay. Great for a couples getaway! We can't wait to return.
This was our first trip to Key West. The M&A was the perfect oasis. Location to all areas was perfect! Away from too much way but walkable. We did rent a scooter on our last day and it was easy to zip around and park. The property was spot less. Diana welcomed us upon arrival and explained all of the amenities. She was terrific through out our entire visit. Our room could be chilled to frozen, which is how we enjoy it. Linens and bed were wonderful and extremely comfortable. Late night snacks were always available to take care of unexpected cravings. The pool was bigger then expected and the perfect warm but not too warm. We enjoyed recovering from a long day or night in the garden. My Husband prefers to not socialize on vacation and was worried about the intimacy of the resort. Everyone was respectful and we could easily interact as little or as much as we wanted. Not having a tv in the room led to some of our best sleep ever, utilizing the white noise machine in the room. Carla kept the room looking amazing even though I didn’t make it easy on her. She was respectful of my items and did an incredible job working around them. Great closet space and vanity area! We can’t wait to return!…
The Mermaid & The Alligator photos are great, but the experience is even better. You'll walk by other places which look lovely, but they don't have the unique lush gardens (one of the owners was/is? a landscape architect) . It's the perfect retreat after wandering the hot streets of Key West (especially after Duval Street--yikes!) for hours. The plunge pool with its jets is perfect for a great pre-dinner soak. Make sure you spend some time looking at all the great art (Cuban and more) in the living room and the main floor. Our room, in the cottage, was small (especially for the king bed), but cozy. No tv, which was fine for us, but others might want one. Maura, the innkeeper, is the best--she thinks of everything before you can. For example, she called while we were driving down the Keys to make sure that we could find the parking and to recommend where to eat along the way. Her hot takes on Key West are delightful, hilarious, and spot on. There's sunscreen, towels, umbrellas, La Croix in the fridge, a Keurig, cookies at 3 PM, wine & cheese at 5, and probably other things I'm forgetting that will make you feel at home. We had breakfast burrito one morning by the pool and because we were leaving early the next, Maura made sure we had a breakfast to go in the guest fridge. Maura has great food recommendations, but she's very polite and if you have your mind set on something, she won't discourage you, so better to just trust her. I'd recommend this place without hesitation.…
We stayed in the Audubon room and enjoyed the size of both the room and bathroom. The mattress, however, is at the end of its useful life. The bedding and towels are luxurious and it’s conveniently located on the 1st floor. Parking is included, but unless everyone drives a subcompact only 6 cars really fit and we had to move ours a few times. The gardens are the best part of this B and B and we did enjoy them! The breakfast was disappointing since we enjoy lots fresh fruit, whole grains and home baked goods. There was some fruit on 2 of the mornings, but the other times it was put out after we finished, closer to 9 am. They do provide a cooked entree, and 1 day out of 4 it was delicious. Diana was a delight and very helpful!
Stayed here from Mar 27-31, 2022. It was a great location, we walked everywhere and only uber'd when our feet hurt. Diana was a very gracious host and gave us lots of tips about the area. She answered all of my questions. We enjoyed the breakfast each morning. We went to the beach two days and the Inn provided the cooler and other amenities for that. The Inn grounds were so pretty! We stayed in the Caribbean Suite with the wrap around porch and enjoyed that porch every time we were in the room! We would definitely stay here again.
I heard about The Mermaid & The Alligator by scouring through TripAdvisor forums and wrote it down as my top pick of the few places I planned to contact for our trip to Key West last week. They seemed to be booked up when I checked online so I went on looking at other places but kept dreaming of staying here. I decided to make a phone call in case of cancellations and to my surprise, they had vacancy but we'd have to switch rooms on the second day. DEAL! I snagged up that offer booked immediately! So glad we did! This lovely B & B exceeding all of our expectations with the care they put into each room and the extras they provided. Not to mention the feeling of complete retreat while we sat outside on the porch or by the plunge pool in the evenings. It truly felt like an escape from the busy, party central Duval Street which was not really our vibe. We had free parking in the driveway for our rental car and walked everywhere during our stay. Everything is easily accessible and within walking distance, or you can grab a quick Uber or rent bicycles here at the B & B as well! We stayed in the Caribbean Queen Suite the first night which was to die for! A beautifully appointed room with a wrap around balcony, chairs and a hammock. The bathroom was luxurious with a soaking tub and huge shower. We really loved this room and wished we could have stayed the whole week there! But, we moved to the Bamboo Room and found that we loved it too. The private porch in the middle of the beautiful tropical garden was such a lovely spot to sip coffee in the early mornings. The amenities provided here were wonderful! Snacks, sparkling water, beach supplies, including sunblock, and the lovely warm breakfast cooked each morning. Diana was also so friendly and helpful during our stay! We hope to stay here again the next time we visit the Keys!…
What a fabulous and unique hotel the Mermaid and Alligator is. Simply loved staying there. A very warm welcome and great service from all the attentive staff. A lovely freshly prepared breakfast to start each day. We will be back. Thank you M&A for a lovely stay.
What an amazing hidden gem in the heart of Key West! The staff and grounds here are simply perfect. This was our fist stay here and we Absolutely will be back. The grounds are lush and tropical. The rooms have possibly the most comfortable beds and more importantly pillows I have ever experienced away from home (we took pictures of the tags). Additionally the location is perfect as it is just a few blocks from Duval St, so party all you want and just walk back. For a last minute reservation The Mermaid and The Alligator made our Key West vacation, in a word, Perfect!
I picked this place to celebrate our 50th anniversary from the pictures, but they don’t begin to do it justice. The exotic thick foliage and beautiful landscaping made us never want to leave. The furniture is very comfortable. There are so many turns and corners you feel like you are the only ones around. Diana is wonderful. She makes you feel like royalty. She’s alway available, friendly and helpful. Breakfast is set up perfectly with a large variety of food, including one hot home-made item. At 4 pm she sets out a bottle of red wine, a bottle of white wine, glasses and then goes back to her office….a true happy hour. The beautiful home is always immaculate, and so homey and welcoming. I highly recommend. The only problem I had was I didn’t want to leave.
We have returned from our third stay at The Mermaid and the Alligator since 2019. We have already booked our 2023 stay because the experience at The Mermaid and the Alligator is superb! The rooms are beautiful, the ambiance in the common areas inside and out are everything you would expect from this Key West tropical paradise. You couldn't ask for more from a manger like Diana, she is knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and just such a pleasure to deal with regarding your stay. Needless to say, we highly recommend this wonderful Bed and Breakfast!
