My husband and I spent one night in the Humpback suite, we had a wonderful time. The space was very clean and welcoming. The hot tub was a wonderful way to spend time in the evening relaxing and watching the stars. We were expecting it to be a little more private then what we got but we still enjoyed our stay.
My partner and I had a lovely time at the Humpback suite. We relaxed in the hottub and watched the stars and the full moon over the ocean. The room had little treats in it like tea, coffee and Bubbly cans, and it was stocked with a full kitchenette and supplies. The homeowner was lovely to work with and they went out of their way to bring us boardgames to play. The trails nearby the lodge are gorgeous and easily accessible. We had a yummy dinner at The Captain's Table and breakfast at the Irish Loop Coffee House. Highly recommend the whole experience. This is a beautiful part of Newfoundland.
I will say props to the photographer because the photos were beautiful but certainly not accurate. I'm not sure if the suite in the photo actually exists but it certainly was not we found when checking into the Humpback Whale Suite. This was a very expensive stay for one of the worst rooms I've ever stayed in. Fortunately we did not have to eat there because i would not have wanted to use the old toaster oven or microwave or the dirty BBQ outdoors with its accompanying rusted BBQ tools. The bed was not queen size and was up against a wall. You certainly don't want to spend any amount of time in this room. There was only one restaurant open in the area and no grocery store that we found. The only redeeming feature was the hot tub but certainly not for the price we were charged.
Beautiful spot, at a great price. Everything you need in quaint setting, right along the East Coast Trail. Very clean and well stocked with top notch restaurants in the area. We would make a point to stay there again on our next visit.
We stayed in the Humpback suite, equipped with a queen bed and hot tub. We had an ocean view. Yes with the vegetation, you have to stand up in the hot tub to see the ocean but nevertheless it was a gorgeous view and very relaxing. The room itself had a small galley kitchen with toaster oven, microwave, fridge, kettle, coffee maker and sink. Dishes and linens are provided. Bathroom was new and modern. Ample storage. Walking trails a few feet away with spectacular views. As others have said, you can hear other guests walking above but with quiet time at 10pm, all guests were respectful of this.
We were very disappointed. The humpback “suite” was actually a very small room with a queen bed up against the wall and no other place to sit. There were two chairs for eating at a tiny counter but these were not comfortable. The walls are paper thin and other guests could be heard both next store and above. The “private “ whirlpool took up the entire deck, so there was no place to sit on the deck unless you were in the pool. And the “ocean view” was not possible for anyone of less than 5’10” tall! The location, right on the east coast trail, was great and there were some nice features but overall a very disappointing experience.
Great spot - would recommend to anyone. A nice area to site see and a few nice restaurants very close by. Easy check-in, very accommodating and even some snacks available in the room upon check-in. Less than 45 min from St. John’s.
This was my second time at the whale house. First time I stayed in the larger suite, second time in the humpback whale suite. The property is beautiful as is the suite itself unfortunately there were several issues. When we arrived we noticed The bedding had stains on it and the bathroom mirror was covered in what looked to be toothpaste stains. The hot tub area is beautiful but not at all private. If you are in the main suite, the windows look directly down into the humpbacks hot tub, which was uncomfortable and not private at all, if there was a wooden barrier like on the other side, it would make it much better. They had a couple shorter sheer looking curtains put up, but with the wind it barely covered one section of the hot tub. I attached a picture to show where the above suite window is. For $200+ a night, a couple sheer curtains for privacy just wasn’t sufficient. The bed was very comfy but whatever area is above the room, was very noisy. We could hear people talking, laughing and walking around until we’ll into 5am in the morning. We made the most of it but for the price, you can do much better. The larger suite is more private and wasn’t as noisy from my previous experience. The host was friendly and fast at communicating. I hate to give a negative review but reviews are what I like to check before booking a place. Hopefully the issues can be corrected, as it is such a gorgeous place!…
The Blue Whale suite was beautiful. Everything we needed was included, Amazing view and the hot tub is out standing. We have been in B and Bs all over the Avalon from ST.Johns to Clarenville and this was by far the most amazing suite we have had.
This location is lovely. There are numerous hiking trails close by, a locally based restaurant, and the Atlantic is right outside your window! I woke up to the sunrise shining across the bay, without having to move my head from the pillow. The room was perfectly clean, the bed - I wish I could take home, and the customer service was without a flaw. We will definitely be back in the summer!
