Most aesthetically pleasing hotel room I have ever stayed in. You enter the hotel through a beautiful copper door into an inviting lobby of helpful staff who not only help you check-in and with your bags but also offer you a welcome drink that can either be alcoholic or non-alcoholic (your choice)
The first strike was during check-in. The lobby is scented, including with one of the chemicals that trigger migraines for me. I recognized the risk immediately as, to me, the chemical has an odor reminiscent of a cat litter box that hasn't been changed for about a week. I told the clerk that their lobby scent was triggering a migraine, and asked him to come outside to complete the check-in process. First he stared at me like I was from another planet, but ultimately he complied. He also told me that there was no way up to the rooms except through the lobby, which meant I had to stay on medication the entire time I was there just to be able to access the room. His statement turned out to be false - there was another route, just not one convenient for the staff. When I got to the room it was freezing. I tried to adjust the thermostat, but no luck. So I called guest services for help. No answer, perhaps not surprising at 10 at night. I gave up after it rang about 30 times. The room had a sliding door to a patio, so the available solution was to keep that wide open to bring enough warm, humid outdoor air to make the room comfortable. Terrible waste of energy, but no other evident choice. The patio was mostly enclosed, a trellis with vines on it covered the open portion. There was no other window, so the room was dark and depressing (see photo, which was taken with all the lights on and at the brightest time of day). Having the door open meant I was awakened each morning when trucks started to drive around the hotel. Then there was the door-less shower. The first morning, before I realized the risk, the bathroom became a shallow lake. I called guest services to request someone mop up the mess. This time they answered, and promised that someone would do so. When I returned that evening after dinner, no one had. There was still a considerable puddle on the floor. Another call to guest services. They didn't seem compliant until I reminded them that it was now a safety hazard and that it wouldn't be me calling if I slipped and fell in the middle of the night. Sad that was necessary to get someone up to clean the mess, but the staff at this hotel don't seem to understand customer service. On subsequent mornings I was extra careful while showering which reduced, but couldn't eliminate, the flooding problem (see photo, from the day of the least flooding). On the second day, although I had requested no housekeeping during my 3-night stay so as not to waste linens that were still perfectly usable, housekeeping changed all the towels and the bed. In addition, whoever was in my room reassembled my electric toothbrush (meaning they touched the part that goes in my mouth - gross!) and threw out my toothpaste. Ok, it was almost empty and I had a backup tube. But WTF??? I checked the rest of my belongings and fortunately found that was all they had discarded. Never again!!!…
We had such a great Girls Trip this past week and absolutely enjoyed our stay at Mayfair House. Everything about the hotel was fabulous, especially the decor and overall vibe! We arrived very early on Sunday and were immediately greeted by the beautiful Daniella who was so helpful and welcoming. She took great care of us, gave us our Welcome Drinks and was even able to facilitate an early check-in which was so appreciated since we had been traveling since 4 am. All the staff, from bartenders to housekeeping, were friendly and helpful whenever you asked for anything. They have a great text system we used for any questions and we received recommendations for restaurants and places to check out in South Beach. The location of this hotel is perfect. We ate out at the most amazing restaurants and loved walking the quaint streets of Coconut Grove. Bravo to management for running such a wonderful establishment and congrats to the staff for making our trip so memorable. We will be back soon!…
Really liked this hotel. Location is great, next to lots of good restaurants, but still quiet. Room was huge with all amenities we needed, plus free soft drinks in the mini bar. Aesthetics of the hotel were very cool, loads of plants. Rooftop area was great for lounging, with a decent bar. Only niggles were no hot water (quickly fixed by maintenance) and the lifts being a pain in the neck to summon. But minor issues and we would happily return
The service was very good, and our stay was so relaxing. The staff was really kind and willing to attend any request. Mr. Owen Moxey was very attentive and provided a birthday surprise for my fiancé. The location is amazing and we would stay here again and recommend it to any couples or even a family. Great vibe for taking pictures.
This is a great hotel - we had a fantastic stay. It has such a lovely, relaxed vibe, which we appreciated. It is unique but who wants to stay in yet another soulless hotel and room? Not us! It does mean that you really need to embrace and love the eccentricity of this hotel - we have become so used to standard and dull hotels but this one is so fab. The location is amazing and we would stay here again and recommend. I have a couple of comments that I know other guests have mentioned so wish for them to be accepted constructively (I am looking to help you improve and they are actually quite minor but would make a difference to the guest experience): 1. The reception area could easily be altered so there is a desk and seating. I know what you are trying to do with the current layout and have seen it elswhere but it doesn't work so well. It feels unwelcoming and I agree with a previous reviewer that it looks like a row of ATM's. This is the first and last impression of your hotel, please consider tweaking it. 2. Linked to 1 above: we arrived and were met by a chap in a black t-shirt and trousers who we thought was a valet but he checked us in using an ipad. That is okay but again, probably not the best first impression if you are aiming at 4-5 star hotel. There was a lady at reception who wore a suit and that was really great and more professional. Please think about the uniform even if it is more polo shirts for the chaps and name badges would look more professional. Everything else is brilliant but please, these are small changes, and I hope help. I reiterate, I would stay here again in a heart beat and will be back later in the year so keep doing what you are doing but keep changing and improving.…
We just returned from our trip to Coconut Grove, and our stay at the Mayfair, and while our stay at the hotel was good, there are a few things that keep it from being a 5 star hotel, as it is currently listed. To start, there are many things the Mayfair gets right. *The aesthetic and vibe of the main hotel area are great. The courtyard with all of the monstera plants is gorgeous. The Mayfair Grill was beautiful, and we loved the tables outside int he courtyard area. We could hang out there all day. *The rooftop area is gorgeous, probably the best part of the hotel. The chairs and daybeds by the pool were stylish and comfortable, the mural was bright and colorful, and we loved the umbrellas. The pool was gorgeous and clean, but freezing (more on that later). *Bedrooms were stylish and well appointed. We appreciated the well stocked mini-fridge (anything not alcoholic drink-wise was complimentary, which we took advantage of during our stay), beds were comfortable, and the garden patio was spacious and comfortable as well. We were in a double king room and our room was quite spacious. *Overall, customer service was great. We did not encounter situations other reviewers mentioned: we were greeted at check-in (there is not a traditional check-in desk, rather just someone in the lobby with an iPad, but it worked out just fine), our bags were collected, and we were offered bottled water and champagne upon arrival (more like a sparkling cider or mimosa, nice none-the-less). There were 12 people in our family/party (4 rooms) and we all had the same seamless check-in experience, arriving at slightly different times. My husband was the "main communicator" for our family and would text someone at the hotel (didn't catch the name) about things like needing water or with questions about things and always got a timely response. *The Mayfair could not be in a better location for heading out for meals or drinks, or a walk near the marina. The best location in Coconut Grove. *Another review mentioned noise. We did not have any issues with noise. It's worth mentioning we sleep with white noise, but I've stayed in much louder hotels. Now, the areas where we feel the Mayfair could stand to improve, especially if they continue to refer to themselves as a 5 star property: *The rooftop pool is not heated. And it was FREEZING. Our kids were able to swim for about 5-10 minutes at a time before needing to get out to warm up. It was nearly impossible for any adults to join them. We had a really good natured member of our family who sucked it up for the sake of having fun with the kids, and would swim for a little bit at a time, but it was not enjoyable for him at all. The rest of us didn't even really dip our toes, it was that cold. We did know the pool wasn't heated ahead of time, and inquired about how warm it would be and never really got a straight answer. We figured it being a rooftop pool in Miami, it would be warm enough, we were wrong. I'm sure during the summer months, it's very swimmable, however it was not during our stay. The problem was that it got very hot on the rooftop even in January and we couldn't pop in the pool to cool down. It was a major bummer. If a heater is not an option, why not a solar cover at the very least? *The pool bar was closed during the day during the week. It did not open until 5, which is when it would start to get really cool upstairs and we would leave anyways. We understand it might not be worth it to have a full staff upstairs during the of season, but from what we saw, there were enough people to constitute a server checking in from time to time or a bartender from at least noon on. *No sunscreen or watercooler at the pool. Having stayed at a few 5 star resorts recently, we came to expect at least access to ice water and sunscreen near the pool, neither of which the Mayfair had (even on Friday when their pool bar opened at 12). *Pool Bar Service: on Friday (our last full day at the hotel and our first day with the pool bar open) no one came around with menus or to take our order. It was only after we walked to the bar that a server came over and told us we could order through her, but she never walked around after that, so we had to continue to go to the bar to order. The service in this area was lacking. We didn't mind going to the bar, but also felt guilty that we were told to order through the server, but she wasn't around to order through. *Another issue Mayfair needs to look into is the elevators. I know they took over an old hotel, and I am not sure what they can do about it, but the elevators are a MESS. They are old, they are slow, and the process of requesting an elevator is confusing. If you're reading this before you go: scan your key first, then hit your floor, not the other way around. There is also only one elevator going to the rooftop. This was frustrating during our stay, when the hotel was not very busy, I cannot imagine it during the prime season. We inquired about stairs and were told there were none! Obviously this would be a huge safety issue and fire hazard. We did eventually find the stairwell, and we used it often, but it's very old and not updated, and kind of scary. Stairs and elevators need to be addressed by The Mayfair immediately. *Hot Water: nearly everyone in our family was with our hot water at one point or another. We did let The Mayfair know during our stay, but it was always after the cold shower we had to take. One of our family members booked a soaking room tub and could only use the tub on the last day because that was the first day of their stay the water was hot enough. *Dark Rooms. I'm saving this one for last because I think I was the only one bothered by this of everyone in our family. My nuclear family stayed on the third floor in an offshoot hallway and I found our room to be very dark. It felt like we were staying in a basement and I didn't like it. All rooms have a garden patio that are covered with plants for privacy. Since the garden patio is the only source of light and its covered, there is little natural light in the room, and the provided lighting just did not do the job. I will say, I visited my mom's room and her's was brighter. I would assume higher floors, and rooms directly off the courtyard probably have the best lighting. This might be worth requesting when booking. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at The Mayfair. The staff was very receptive to any issues and they really do want to hear what they can improve upon. We did say, if we return to Coconut Grove in December-Februrary again, we would make sure to stay somewhere with a heated pool, as the main point of our trip was to relax poolside and the temperature of the pool really impacted that part of our trip.…
Great location for a mom/daughter trip! 25 minute Uber ride to South Beach! Lots of yummy local restaurants in walking distance. Great vibe for taking pics- love all the vibrant colors. Pool is one of the best parts. Well appointed outdoor furnishings and umbrellas- a retro feel. Visited museums -SuperBlue and Peréz, ate great food - Carbone and Kiki’s
I was very well received by Robert Leyton and he took care and helped me about the neighborhood and the amenities in Coconut Grove. He was friendly, kind and respectful. Also the room service was very well done by a canarian lady and the luggage boy was perfect even without the tip I finally couldn't gave him. Christmas this year was not a good moment to go a cause of the rain and I have to advise to the direction about the necessity that each room count on an umbrella because I returned mine and the next rainy day was impossible to have another one. The restaurant is ok but I would prefer could have breakfast included on the price of the room. Narbona is a perfect coin to go but would be interesting to make an arrangement with them to serve a kind of small breakfast for the guests of The Mayfair. This is my friendly suggestion. Eventhough my experience in Mayfair Hotel was good and I hope I can come back some day in the next future. I desire a Happy New Year to the big equip there and hope to say Hello to all of them again! The hotel is newly renovated and very tasteful. Also the rooms are very spacious with nice balconies. All in all a top hotel. The service however is more than bad. Right at the beginning of our stay, the electrical system did not work, so that the lamps in the entrance area could not be turned off. At night the technicians came and had to disconnect the lamps. The next morning the next technician who tried to solve the problem, which he did not succeed. A total of one hour of vacation time without an apology. In the afternoon the same game. Instead of fixing the switch, the card at the entrance should be removed. Strange electrical system. The lady at the reception was particularly unimpressed and more than arrogant. The minibar was not refilled except once in four days. So we had to complain about this every day. The service spoke only Spanish and no English. In a 5 star hotel a no go. On the first day, tired of driving, we used the Vallet service for $42 plus tax. The service then drove the car to the garage directly across the street. The next day, of course, we canceled the service and drove ourselves into the garage. Nobody has ever become rich from spending money ;-). When we got the bill, of course four days of Vallet service were booked. They said the bill comes by mail and you are complimented out. No apology for the service or the electrics or a drink on the house. As we checked the bill we asked for correction. They got even more rude, then corrected two days without apology. However, it should have been three days, so we complained again. The service at the reception was just annoyed and corrected. Again without apology. Nice hotel but if you like rude treatment and attempted fraud !!!! Management would do well to either train existing staff or replace them directly.…
