Despite its prime location near the cruise port and Bayside Marketplace, the Holiday Inn Port of Miami-Downtown faces criticism for its lack of modern amenities and the disparity between advertised and actual services, including unexpected charges. Guests have repeatedly mentioned cleanliness issues, describing rooms as not only outdated but also unclean, with problems like mold and stains. The general ambiance of the hotel is considered neglected, needing urgent renovations.
Furthermore, the service is often described as disorganized, with staff members perceived as inattentive. Overall, many travelers question the hotel's value due to these shortcomings.

2/27/2025 - Holiday Inn Port of Miami-Downtown is situated in the heart of downtown Miami. Across the street of Biscayne Blvd. is the Port of Miami (PORTMIAMI), the largest port of cruise ship in the world where a largest cruise ship - Icon of the Sea - sails weekly for a round trip since its maiden voyage began on 1/27/2024 and Bayside Marketplace, where we bought a boat tour at $25 per person for a 100 minutes tour.
Upon entering its lobby, a very good impression with its modern design appears to my mind. The guest room is bigger than Kimpton Hotels' in Los Angeles (Beverly Hills). Also, the bed is very comfortable - we had a very good sleep. Due to its unique location, all guests rooms were sold out yesterday, today and tomorrow (2/28/2025) - Thanks for many mega cruise ships will begin sailing on Saturday, 2/29/2025.
I am a little bit surprised that this hotel does not have a hot tub while most Holiday Inn and Suites have both a pool and hot tub (note: its swim pool has been closed for a while).
This hotel honors an IHG Platinum member's benefit by offering two complimentary drinks (wines, beers, or sparkling wine, etc.), 600 IHG points, and free upgrade if a room is available upon check-in. This hotel adds value to an IHG brand name. Thank IHG for letting us find this hotel in Miami - we have achieved a price & performance goal.
Wish list: Some floors and guestrooms should be remodeled because the carpet on the 3rd floor is too old, which may apply to those guestrooms on the same floor.
Note: A BigBus (a tour bus) will stop in front of the hotel as station #8.

The team is thrilled to know you were impressed with our central location and the comfort of our rooms. While a hot tub is not currently available, it's fantastic that you enjoyed the Platinum member benefits. We have been to this hotel pre-cruise 20x or more. I reserved a room with IHG points 11 months in advance. Got a suite - 2 queens with a pullout. We were on the 6th floor facing Bayside Marketplace. We got there around 2 pm - room was ready. Front desk staff very good. Checked in, dropped off luggage in room. First thing we noticed was a slight musty smell. It actually did not bother us too much. The only other problem we encountered was the a/c wouldn't adjust no matter what we did. Tried turning it off, on, off, on, fan off, fan on, auto off, auto on. Thermostat up, thermostat down. Stayed at 68 - even when we put it up to 75. As it was chilly that night, just ended up turning it off completely. Room was clean but old. TV did not get the local 10 Miami news channel, which was weird. Never waited for an elevator, checkout was quick and easy even with all the cruisers coming in after their cruise or checking out to go on their cruise. (Miami port was a madhouse with 6 ships there that day.) Can't beat the location - easy walk to Bayside Marketplace, CVS, Starbucks, Ross (picked up a pair of shorts I needed) and many restaurants. I know this hotel has been getting blasted in reviews, but it is like an old friend to us, and we will definitely stay there again in the future.

The hotel is located in a strategic position practically in the Bayside area. A very beautiful area near the port with many shopping opportunities and many bars, quite assured nightlife...very convenient for cruise passengers who have to take a ship. …But quite far from Miami Beach. We stayed here, and it is the third time since 2016... we realized that the hotel has significantly worsened. Negative aspects: Spacious room and large bathroom, but now dilapidated, with dusty and sometimes smelly carpet. Cleanliness of the room just barely enough. The bathroom had problems with the taps and therefore it was very difficult to take a shower: practically old and almost blocked taps. Breakfast was included in the package, decent but without bacon, as you had to pay separately... I find it truly absurd that in a hotel where you pay more than $400 a night there is breakfast without bacon and you have to pay part of it...!!! That day the hotel was almost completely occupied by cruise passengers (the port is visible behind the hotel's windows on the top floor and is convenient for cruise passengers) and only one lift was working, we who were on the top floor took an hour to go down…. madness!!! Hotel needs a lot of maintenance, it seems to have remained stuck in the 70s, especially floors and bathrooms. Positive aspects: Presence of minibar in the room and very kind staff, always smiling and helpful. Large bed, king size with excellent mattresses. Price too high for 1 night for a hotel stuck in the 70s.... Limited breakfast...for an American hotel you can't pay for anything other than bacon, while there's no shortage of eggs... A contradiction... I do not recommend this hotel due to the price being too high for the conditions in which it is located and what it offers.... There are other facilities in the area at much lower prices…

During the Columbus weekend, my family and I lodged at this hotel. Prior to making our reservation, I reviewed the hotel’s online photographs and customer testimonials. While I have previously stayed at several IHG properties, this particular experience was notably unsatisfactory.
Upon arrival, I noticed the absence of a hotel sign on the building. Upon inquiring with the front desk staff, I learned that the sign had been missing for several yearsl. However, the pool, which was advertised as open, was in fact closed due to the construction of a neighboring building that would take several years to complete. The hotel’s website should reflect this closure until further notice.
Furthermore, I encountered a significant safety concern. On multiple occasions, my room key failed to unlock the door, necessitating three attempts to have it rekeyed. Despite the repeated attempts, the key remained ineffective. Each time I returned to request a rekey, the staff failed to verify my identification. Notably, the individual performing the rekeying was not the person I had checked in with. I have since spoken with other guests who have experienced similar issues, with all reporting that the staff never requested identification.
In addition to these concerns, the on-site restaurant presented several problems. The kitchen menu indicated that the restaurant closed at 11 p.m., but the cook informed us that the kitchen had actually closed at 9:45 p.m. He subsequently said the time on the menu of 10 p.m was also incorrect. When I ordered a glass of wine, I discovered that the rim of the glass had a sharp edge that was causing discomfort to my lip. I informed the bartender, who replaced the wine in a new glass and disposed of the defective glass to prevent it from affecting other customers. The appropriate course of action would have been to discard the glass to avoid any potential harm.
I’m a big fan of IHG’s brand hotels, but I strongly advise against staying at this particular establishment. It urgently requires a thorough renovation and a new management team. The bathroom light shades were so dusty that it seemed like they hadn’t been cleaned since the hotel’s opening day. I was genuinely disappointed with my overall experience. The beds were incredibly uncomfortable.
On the positive side, the hotel’s location was quite convenient. It was within walking distance of several restaurants and nightlife options.

This is an old hotel and it also has its charm... Our room was incredibly worn, paint peeled off in the ceiling, the carpet was old when we got into the room it smelled enclosed. There was attempt to paint doors in the room, but this is the thinnest time painter work I have long seen. The paint did not cover at all.
The location of the hotel is world class. If you are on a cruise and have a single night in Miami, the hotel is fine, besides that I would probably look for other options
Tip: In the lobby you can buy a cola for $6, but if you use the machines that are located on different floors (e.g. 4 floors), you get off with $2,50 which is also cheaper than cvs (2,59$ + tax)

The room was very small in comparison to the other family members we traveled with and we paid more money. The front desk clerks were not compassionate and directed our concerns to corporate. The room was very old for $250 per night. We generally stay at the Hilton or Marriot but a family member convinced us that we would at the least like the room and it would save us money. In fact , we did not hate the room but it looked like a cheap motel room. The hardware on the doors were rusted the paint looked like a very unprofessional person did the painting. I never paid $250 for on a trash room before. We canceled our reservation for the next scheduled stay immediately and we booked at the Embassy Suites which happened to be cheaper and very consistent with the quality of their rooms

Terrible experience, worst disappointment of our lives. Very old hotel in need of renovation and improvements in services. The terrible experience began upon arrival at the parking lot, in addition to walking half a block with your bags, you have to put up with the grumpy employee, you begin to want to leave. Bad procedure, you have to wait on the street with the risk of a fine to get in and it wasn't just me, an American family was also poorly treated. check-in ok, the basics, because I'm an IHG member, I got a 500ml water. The biggest disappointment starts now. 3 elevators 2 broken. In the elevator there is a smell of mold, old and poorly maintained elevators. In the bedroom hallway, the musty smell intensifies due to the old carpet. The room is very old, the coffee table is falling apart, the sofa bed where my son slept is very dirty, the window hasn't been cleaned in years. The only item renovated and replaced was the windows, in the bathroom they replaced the floor, but left the old baseboard and painted the tile that is peeling. Lamp burned. To ask the room not to be cleaned, we had to do a do not disturb TAG, as the hotel didn't have one, we asked the maid, and very reluctantly she said to hang up the towel, meaning I'm left without a towel. Look at the photos and draw your conclusions. Factors in which I regret choosing this hotel are because there are much better hotels with similar and cheaper prices in the region. Photos on the website are deceiving. I chose it because of its location close to KASEYA CENTER, where we went to watch the Heat game.

This would have to be the worst hotel we have stayed at in America, it is dirty, the carpets in the hallways and rooms, there is rubbish on the floor of level 5 that has been for two days. The best surprise was the black hairs in the drawers so had to ask a number of times before it was addressed. Our room has no fridge, so no cold drinks There were no hand towels or face washers in the room and we had to go to the reception desk twice of the space of 4 hours before it was actioned. There was and still is no cold water coming from the bathroom tap and shower. The other glaring problem in the bathroom is the visible mould along the edge of the tiling at the bottom of the exterior of the bathtub. Asked about this the day we arrived and was told there were no other rooms available and as maintenance had gone home it would be dealt with the next day, which it was but it again has the same issue, so we decided not to complain again as it all seemed so hard to get anything fixed. Today housekeeping changed the towels and left 5 bath towels no hand towels, no face washers, oh well. We only had the coffee replaced when we asked the housekeeper as she was leaving the room. Today we came back to a stifling room as the air conditioning wasn’t working when we enquired we were told it was faulty. The other issue is the pool that is advertised on the hotels page is closed for renovations, but no mention it is on the website. Definitely not recommended and from reading their website feedback the majority of these issues have been advised many times in the past.

Stayed 2 nights in November, as long as you have low expectations, this property will meet them. Arrived at midnight, it took the front desk person an hour and after two encounters to tell me she can’t access a crib for the baby, “only available from engineering after 7:00 am”. She seemed to be the only one on duty.
Like other posters, the rooms are tired, thin walls to hear your neighbour, and can only be updated with a full gut and reno. The only benefit is location, close to cruise port in Miami.
Had breakfast included in room rate, choice of 2 eggs/meat/toast/coffee or pancakes or the buffet which was sparse in other than packaged goods. Had the cooked to order eggs, service fast and friendly.
Would not stay again as there is no value in staying here.
My thoughts are this property will undergo a full renovation at some point, re-open under the Marriott chain banner and perhaps the owners will make that announcement. This will remove the need of hotel staff responding to comments made by travellers that their concerns may be considered for future changes in policy or service standards. It is perhaps a waste of verbage to even respond knowing that nothing will happen.
When I got my Marriott CC statement for staying here, there was additional credit for staying at Marriott properties, this property was included, but you book it under IHG. No signage on hotel would explain a transition from one brand to another. Maybe the owners will announce a complete renovation of this property.

The location is unbeatable, the breakfast service is very good in terms of attention but not so much in the variety of food, however it is "ok". The hotel in general needs remodeling, both corridors, elevators and rooms, however I had a good stay and will likely return knowing the pros and cons. Something that caught my attention is that in a 4-night stay they only cleaned the room once, a negative point really.
