The central location right on Ocean Drive in the Art Deco District (and the price accordingly), sun loungers on the beach included. We had breakfast in the hotel restaurant once - it was excellent. The rooms are exceptionally designed, the beds are comfortable, the shower has sufficient water pressure. Lots of places to eat and bars around the hotel. We would stay there again.
We particularly liked the Cuban waiter in the evening, who served us an excellent cappuccino!
The windows are difficult to open, air conditioning noise all around us.

Been in the USA a month and the Pelican Hotel is by far the best place I stayed. Spent 7 days there and I will return! Superior customer service from reception, bar and wait staff, housekeeping, fast wifi, nice food, discount breakfast and dinner, free drink per day, (Prosecco or vodka/juice and non alcoholic drinks, nice food, drinkable coffee (hard to find in the US). Across the road at the beach you’ll see chairs and blue umbrellas with letters ‘BB’. Go to the kiosk nearby, tell them you’re at the Pelican and they’ll look after you. Free beach chair but you may be charged for an umbrella although they gave us one for free, maybe cos we’re 2 senior citizens. There’s no coffee machine or microwave in the room but there’s a free 200ml glass bottle of water per person day provided by housekeeping.
Pelican Hotel is a historic landmark in the Art Deco district, home to the world’s largest concentration of Art Deco buildings. Renovated in 2022, each room is designed with flair capturing the beach vibe. Google Pelican Hotel and check out the rooms. As nice as they are, it’s the people that can make or break a hotel experience. Everyone was fabulous!
People watching was our favourite activity over meals. Sitting outside at street level, watching the world around us.
Ocean Drive is famous for its vibrant nightlife. We arrived on a Saturday and Ocean Drive was pumping, yet the hotel was surprisingly quiet.
Location is perfect to access all Miami Beach has to offer. There’s a free Miami Beach shuttle and reception printed a map for us. We spent half a day riding the shuttle’s different routes around Miami Beach.
We stayed in the city for 2 days prior to a cruise and came to the Pelican post cruise. I prefer Miami Beach and the Pelican Hotel.

Located on the west side of Ocean Drive, facing Muscle Beach, the Pelican features a patio & bar out front, like all of the businesses on the street. While we were there in low season, the street had lots of South Beach energy. The check-in is located in the back of the restaurant, across from the bar & the staff were friendly and polite. The rooms are located above the restaurant and they were well appointed and spacious. We had a twin room which was an accessible room which meant a huge washroom and shower. While the room was comfortable, we found noise from the hallway resonated through the room via the door. However, this was the only issue for a place with a great location.

I am beyond furious after my stay at this so-called "hotel"! It’s an absolute disgrace. First of all, let me talk about the noise. The noise! I’m not one to complain over a little background sound, but this was ridiculous. The walls are so thin, you can hear EVERYTHING. Nothing in the property description mentioned that we would have to share a floor with a fully operational nightclub with no sound proofing. I had a bunch of inconsiderate drunk partygoers yelling in the hallways well past midnight, and the walls rattling from the noise. This was supposed to be a relaxing honeymoon, not a nightmare. I had to call down before they finally did anything, and even then, the noise didn’t stop. How hard is it to keep a hotel quiet after 10 PM?! We ended up getting so frustrated with the experience that we forfeited our room (with no refund) and moved to a different hotel within 90 minutes of arrival. It was just that bad!

But that’s not even the worst part. We were woken up by several people trying to get into my room! I’m not talking about a knock – I mean, someone was actively trying to open my door! I’m sitting there, terrified, wondering if I’m about to be robbed or worse. It was a stranger, someone who wasn’t even supposed to be on my floor. The nerve! I’m lucky I had my deadbolt on, but who knows what would’ve happened if I hadn’t.

I’m absolutely appalled. No offer to move me to a quieter room, no follow-up to make sure I felt safe, no refund. Just an incredibly dismissive attitude and a bunch of excuses.

I am never coming back here, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy. Save your money and your sanity. If you’re looking for a peaceful, safe stay with even half decent service, go anywhere but here. This place is an absolute joke.

First and foremost, we would like to sincerely apologize for the distressing experience you had during your stay. We deeply regret that the noise disturbances, safety concerns, and overall environment did not meet the standards you should expect, especially during such a special occasion as your honeymoon. We completely understand your frustration and are truly sorry for the inconveniences you faced. The situation you described, including the noise levels and the incident with someone trying to access your room, is completely unacceptable and not reflective of the safe, comfortable experience we strive to provide our guests. In response to your concerns, we will absolutely refund you the full amount for your stay. We want to make sure you are properly compensated for the negative experience, and we will take immediate steps to investigate and address the issues you raised, including the noise levels and security measures. Your safety and comfort are our top priorities, and we are committed to making the necessary changes to avoid this happening again in the future. We truly hope that you might consider giving us another opportunity to provide you with the high level of service and comfort that you should have received from the start. Please accept our deepest apologies once again, and we wish you all the best in your future travels.

What a great hotel! Stayed in the Executive Sixties Room (# 301) for several days over TG '24. The staff (front desk, bartender, waiters, cleaning staff) were all super helpful and pleasant, they all knew their jobs, and they were clearly happy to work at the Pelican. The hotel as a whole (and our big room in particular) was impeccably clean, all fixtures and appliances worked as they should, our king-size bed was comfortable (very firm, as we like it, with excellent sheets and well-chosen duvet), the A/C worked efficiently AND quietly, and the view (on the beach/ocean) from our room was beautiful -- what more can one want? Well, how about an espresso machine in the room that works perfectly, and plenty of Caffé Vergnano (a pleasant surprise) coffee pods to ensure that one is full of energy at all times? Or, how about a truly good hotel restaurant with an Italian chef who selects dishes and prepares them the way that he would in Italy? Extremely happy with the experience.

I booked a deluxe suite for 3 (my husband, daughter, and I) at this hotel on January 18th for a stay from February 24th to 26th. The booking was confirmed the same day mentioning the 3 pers reservation.
However, on February 24th—the day of our arrival—the hotel informed me that they could only accommodate two people, as the extra bed for our daughter was unavailable.

This was an extremely unwelcome surprise, especially since I was already traveling to Miami. To make matters worse, when I asked to cancel, the hotel stated that their cancellation policy would apply, meaning I would still have to pay for the entire stay.

I had no intention of canceling, as the hotel had confirmed my booking weeks earlier, and they failed to accommodate what I had reserved. This feels like a scam, and I’m appalled at how they handle their business practices.

I spent half a day trying to resolve the issue, but neither the Pelican Hotel nor Booking.com offered any solution other than a “generous” one-night cancellation fee of $450!

I still haven't received a refund. Do not book this hotel!

Response from Reservation Office, Guest Services / Front Office at Pelican Hotel
Responded 2 weeks ago
We understand your frustration and disappointment regarding your attempted stay with us on February 24th. We sincerely apologize that we were unable to accommodate your reservation as expected and for the inconvenience this caused you and your family. We acknowledge your booking for a King Suite for three guests through Booking.com, and we regret the miscommunication regarding the rollaway bed. As stated in your reservation, the room type booked was a King Suite, which includes one king bed. The request for a rollaway bed was noted as a request and is subject to availability. Unfortunately, on the day of your arrival, the rollaway bed was unavailable due to its use by a previous guest. Regarding the cancellation policy, we are bound by the terms agreed upon with Booking.com. For same-day cancellations, the policy dictates a charge of one night's room and tax. This policy is clearly outlined in the booking agreement you accepted through Booking.com. We understand your concern regarding the refund for the remaining nights. We have processed the refund for the remaining night through Booking.com, and any delay in receiving it would be due to their processing times. We recommend contacting Booking.com directly to inquire about the status of your refund. We are truly sorry that we did not meet your expectations. We value your feedback and will use it to improve our communication and ensure better service in the future. Sincerely, Pelican Hotel

We stayed here for four nights and were very happy with the location, just across from the beach. However, we did not know that the daily resort fee does not include umbrellas, which you have to rent for an additional cost. We would have done this every day, but on two days the staff said they were not renting out umbrellas, which cut our time on the beach short, because we prefer not to burn. This frustrated us and though we were told the manager would get in touch, she never did. I will say, the room was clean, though we got one in which the decor was quite garish. We did not eat at the restaurant, but we did have drinks there one day. Our server was very friendly and did not mind that we were not ordering food. All in all, it was a pleasant enough stay, and the aspects we did not like could easily be addressed by management. If you care mostly about location and proximity to restaurants, the beach, and entertainment, The Pelican does the trick. I think we, however, would choose a different hotel next time.

We stayed at the Pelican the last week of October, and we were fully satisfied. Great location directly on Ocean Drive. You can easily get around the entire south beach on foot. Professional and kind staff. From Azeem who always gave us good advice, to the waiters. The room is treated in every detail with truly unique furnishings. The bathroom is also very particular and beautiful. The only note is the view from the window overlooking the back is very bad, however not relevant. Excellent American breakfasts, which are paid for but really good, always worth it. The continental one includes brioches, bread, chocolate, jam and much more. Also worth trying are the pancakes. For a change we recommend Rosetta nearby. We also had dinner and always had a good time. Very good food, high prices but in line with south beach. Included in the price they also gave us towels for the beach and two sunbeds were included. October was still low season, we were treated really well. Fully recommended.

We’ve stayed on Ocean Drive a few times previously and , of the art deco hotels, thought the Pelican one of the best. It’s perfectly located, stylish and cleverly furnished to immerse you in that glamorous period feel.
When we checked in this time , we noted it had had a level of refurbishment but, thankfully, it was still sympathetic with its period. So far so good.
Our room was comfortable (great bed) with period furniture, smart TV and quirky bathroom. Impressively, the rooms to the rear of the hotel were surprisingly quiet at night - despite it being Spring Break.
One disappointment though was the lack of hospitality. Previously, staff had always been welcoming, this time this was lacking. As a guest, your ‘resort fee’ covers a complimentary cocktail each day and beach loungers (not the umbrella though). You also get 20% off food and drinks. The same waiter served us three times and never applied the discount until reminded. The restaurant was always quiet as well (everywhere else full). Prices were high compared to some - and there’s lots of competition.
Practically speaking, you have restaurants immediately to both sides of the hotel. There’s a CVS nearby and plenty of coffee shops etc. Parking is valet only, but was very convenient. Bear in mind, Ocean Drive is one way only now so you have to drive down from N to S.
Overall, a good hotel in a great location. Perfect for getting the full SOBE experience. Just a shame the staff couldn’t crack a smile and be more welcoming.

We stayed for one night prior to a cruise, but we wish we could have stayed longer. Like most of the hotels on Ocean drive the Pelican has been restored to its former Art Deco glory.
The 2 guys on reception were friendly and very attentive and we were lucky enough to get upgraded to a suite (Executive thirties) a huge space overlooking the drive itself.
Everything was spotless, and comfortable. The bathroom was amazing and the toiletries were upmarket and beautifully scented (I think we used everything!).
We ate our evening meal and breakfast the next morning sitting on the balcony overlooking the drive. We felt like we were on a film set.
The Pelican is not cheap but we felt that it was great value for the experience.
We had such an amazing time that we returned for brunch on the day we were due to fly home. It did not disappoint and was a fantastic end to our holiday.
We will definitely return!
