As part of the candy-colored historic Art Deco District, Kimpton Surfcomber Hotel welcomes you to the sea-and-be-seen revelry of Miami's South Beach. Famed nightlife, shops, cafes and galleries are a stroll away. But even without leaving the hotel you can soak up the fun with Kimpton Surfcomber's playful "Daylife." Think ice cream sundaes by our glorious pool, bocce ball tournaments at a private sandy oasis and beach side food and beverage service on the beach. Some say we're the most social hotel around. To that we say, SoBe it.

The Kimpton Surfcomber Hotel garners accolades for its exceptional service and prime beachfront location, beloved by guests for easy access to the beach and nearby attractions. Cleanliness throughout the property is consistently commended. However, some travelers are put off by the noise from ongoing renovations and the lively poolside music. While the rooms receive mixed reviews regarding their size and decor, the overall atmosphere is energetic, embodying Miami's vibrant spirit. Reviewers warn of extra charges for amenities, which some feel diminish the hotel's value.

From the entry to the rim and everything in between this hotel is luxury. I want to especially mention Brianna at the front desk. She was Very welcoming and helpful. The rooms were spotless and right away we experienced the benefits of being longtime IHG members.

Water Zumba was amazing! Romi is fantastic
Had a great time with my girlfriends for a weekend bachelorette
Loved the poolside service and had lots of laughs over the weekend. Fitness centre needs updating but Romi’s classes made up for it.

Surfcomber's location, right on the beach, can't be beat. The grounds are lovely and very well kept. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful from the valets to the housekeepers to the groundskeepers, beach and pool attendants. The lovely brick "boardwalk" and beach are right out the secured back gate. Sunrise is gorgeous. The resort fee doesn't cover a beach umbrella any more--extra $26 plus tip. There's a lot of nickel and dime-ing in Miami Beach these days. Reaching a rather annoying pitch.

As another reviewer said, our room was not ready at 4 and when I checked back at 4:45 still not. No one stayed in contact with us--tho the lobby was almost empty the whole time--we had to keep checking. 2 free drinks was nice, but ... However, every other interaction we had with the front desk was fine. Helpful and friendly. They serve morning coffee in the lobby with various "milks" which is much appreciated. Could be hotter, tho.

The bar and restaurant are rather slow and overpriced. Same as last year. We ordered a happy hour appetizer of fried calamari for $12 to go with the 2 free drinks and it was--no exaggeration--12 thin rings. At least they were not overcooked. We opted for breakfast elsewhere despite the extra inconvenience.

All that said, we will be back as the grounds and location really can't be beat if you get a good rate, and the staff really is very nice.

We considered our scoring and flipped between average and poor, but stuck with poor and here’s why…

Any room on the third floor not pool side suffers from significant noise from the HVAC plant on the hotels roof adjacent making for a terrible nights sleep. Something that could have been sorted with replacement glazing not the mastic which had been used.

Having raised our concerns when first checking in, we were met with a fairly unhappy response to our request and placed in a room 4 doors down with the same issue. The noise and vibration could be felt through the bed and even pillows.

Both rooms had faulting showers and damaged baths which were not useable. To add to the noise issues the AC in the room was also extremely loud. The carpets and general housekeeping was of a poor standard and our first room smelt damp and was very dusty.

Other things to note, the pool is in need of a deep clean and repair from lotion scum, hair and missing tiles. There was a party a week prior from what we understand and the sand area and grass were being repaired and much of the furniture wasn’t out until the last day of our stay.

It wasn’t all bad, the valet, high tide, pool and beach service team were very good and I feel that without them the whole experience would have been a disaster. Viviana especially wowed!

This was our first ever visit to the beautiful Miami and we felt extremely let down by our choice of stay for which we paid well.

I would strongly recommend viewers of our review consider some of the other beautiful neighbouring properties.

The hotel could very much use an upgrade, quite dated room though the lobby was nice. The staff were all pleasant which I appreciated. The main problem : Our room must have had some water leakage from the ceiling vent before we checked in because the carpet was soaking wet when we entered the room, very disappointing due to our late at night arrival. Upon our request The engineer came to check it out the next morning and for the next two days there was an industrial fan blowing with the aim of drying the carpet - we unplugged it at night and started it up the next morning. There were no other rooms available the front desk said and we were only staying 3 nights so we chose to stay. They did take off the resort charge from our bill… but the lack of options was truly dismaying.
We have been to this hotel at least 4 times (but not in the past 5 years), we will find another place to stay in the future.

Good Day MPKC, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re truly sorry to hear about the issues you encountered during your stay, particularly with the wet carpet and the lack of alternative room options. We completely understand how frustrating this must have been, especially after a late-night arrival. While we’re glad the staff was pleasant and the resort charge was removed, we recognize that we fell short in providing you with the comfortable experience you deserve. Your comments are valuable to us, and we’ll use them to improve future guest experiences. We truly appreciate your loyalty in the past, and we're disappointed your recent stay didn’t meet expectations. We hope you won't wait another 5 years before considering a return.

Our stay started badly when despite explaining that we had travelled from the UK on what turned out to be a 13 hour flight due to a medical emergency, we were allocated probably the worst, most noisy room next to the lifts, cleaning cupboard, the loud hotel next door (music and external aircon machinery) and a ridiculously loud air con facility. We complained the following morning (he commented, “oh yes, that is a noisy room”) and we were promptly moved to a much better room further down the corridor and facing onto the garden. Noisy air con aside (not as bad as first room but still loud), the room was very nice. Yes, the bathrooms are very small. Morning tea/coffee and late afternoon drinks (wine and beer) included in resort fee. Pool prices are extortionate. Cost us $50 for two cans of Estrella and three tiny empanada. Ridiculous! But the location is great (ask for a room towards the back if you don’t like street/late night music noise).

We didn’t wait long to get booked in at reception and the staff were very friendly. We got to our room and were on the ground floor, overlooking the bins from our window which wasn’t great and it was rather noisy due to being close to the bar. I asked to move rooms and be on a higher floor which happened to be on the second day with a much better room. They provide free beer and wine in the reception area Monday to Friday 5-7. If you want to get a drink by the pool be prepared to take a lot of money. $45 for two Pina colada’s was quite steep and that’s without tip.
There is a bus stop right outside the hotel which makes it a lot easier getting around, if you download the app you can get a day pass for around $5. Cheaper than Ubers.
Our room was cleaned every day with fresh towels when needed.
Pool area was nice with the staff providing towels and setting up your seat areas for you.
Great location, would recommend.

To start, when my husband and I arrived, the man at the valet station watched me remove our luggage from our Lyft with absolutely no effort or offer or effort to help. Then we arrive to our incredibly small room. It was extremely hot and humid, and the AC did not seem to be working. We waited til morning as we arrived late due to travel delays. Spoke to a staff member the next day, we were promised an engineer would fix our ac, upon returning from the beach our ac is still not working. We are told they will help. Nothing. The next day we ask again, they say again they will send and engineer. Again, nothing. It took three phone calls and us basically demanding a new room before any effort was made to move us to a room with working ac. And mind you this is south beach in July- it was HOT! When we finally do get offered a new room, 0 help was offered to move luggage upstairs. Also both rooms were Very small, and beat up. The bathrooms as VERY, VERY small with absolutely no counter or space for your things.

The staff in the restaurant seemed to be annoyed every time we had to walk through the restaurant, however it was the only way to access the lobby from our room, and the only way to get to the elevator when returning to the hotel. The food is also incredibly over priced and mediocre at best.

Our last night, we were made to leave the pool so the hotel could host a fashion show? The Incrediblely loud house music raged until 12 am and we had to get up at 4 to catch our flight home. When we called the desk to ask how long the loud music would go, they rudely told us midnight. We also had several instances of being woke up by very loud guests all through the hotel.

The staff make absolutely no effort to accommodate any guest who is not here for a rager.

Over all I would say if you want to come and party, party, party and sweat your entire face off. This place is for you. If you aren't a raging party animal. You should invest in a different location with more respect for the clientele.

I stayed here for a week in December 2023, I’m a diamond elite member of IHG hotels. The customer service is just awful at this property, the people who work here are unprofessional and there is no indication that management is even aware of the shortcomings. Allegedly, my room was upgraded but it was tiny, dirty, noisy and had no view. The music at the pool is so loud you can hear the words and easily sing along in your room. This goes on until midnight or later. One day housekeeping simply didn’t come at all. The staff had to have me come back to the desk because after running my credit card they somehow lost the number. There is very little other than its location on the beach to recommend this property - it’s well below the usual standard set by Kimpton properties.

Everything about this hotel is amazing. The restaurant has tons of extremely good food, the pool is fantastic (not too overcrowded or loud) and the rooms are great. The daybeds by the pool are the definition of luxury, I definitely recommend renting one. This is the best Kimpton I’ve stayed at so far, I even got a free upgrade on all three of the rooms I booked on rewards nights.
The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming, especially Maranda and Juan who were very accommodating and happy to answer any questions we had during our stay.
I will definitely be visiting the Kimpton Surfcomber again!
