The Tony Hotel South Beach was originally designed and built in 1939 by L. Murray Dixon, a master architect responsible for many of the Art Deco buildings that line Collins Avenue and Ocean Drive. Dixon’s signature style, embodied in this hotel, included streamlined curves, jutting towers, window “eyebrows,” and neon. Originally named The Tiffany (and subsequently renamed The Hotel of South Beach), the hotel’s rooftop “Tiffany” spire is an historic landmark, towering majestically over Collins Avenue for more than 80 years. In 1985, legendary placemaker Tony Goldman visited South Beach for the first time and fell in love. He saw past the blight and dilapidated buildings that plagued South Beach at the time and envisioned the American Riviera. He spent the next 27 years of his life leading the renaissance of South Beach, fighting to preserve its history while also envisioning its future as a pedestrian destination where people from all walks of life could enjoy its natural beauty in an inclusive community. Tony Goldman bought and methodically restored the hotel, among other properties, and in 1998 enlisted fashion designer Todd Oldham to infuse the hotel with the rich colors, shapes, and textures emblematic of the Art Deco era. The renaming of the hotel as The Tony Hotel South Beach in 2022, on the tenth anniversary of his passing, was a fitting tribute to Tony Goldman by his family, who still own and operate the hotel to this day.

The Tony Hotel South Beach garners appreciation for its spacious, clean rooms and art deco style, complete with a Miami flair and a stunning rooftop pool, though opinions vary on the decor, with some finding it dated. While the service is generally celebrated for being friendly and helpful, instances of inconsistency have been flagged. Guests enjoy the prime location and amenities like beach access, yet some have called out crowded pool areas and noise from nearby nightlife, with earplugs recommended for a peaceful night's sleep. The hotel's cleanliness receives high marks, but visitors have mixed feelings about the value, citing unexpected fees alongside reasonable pricing for certain amenities.

Stayed for 4 nights from the 31/01/20.

Hotel lobby was very clean and had welcoming scent of coconut. Check in appeared confusing for receptionist as we had 2 rooms under same name and wanted to split the bill individually which appeared difficult for them to understand so eventually 1 member of the party paid the full balance on their card.

Eventually was allocated room 216, no view from room, just of a back courtyard. Room
Spotlessly clean and had 2 3/4 beds and bathroom also was very clean and everything was working. The air con worked very well which was good to know.

The location was very good, step outside turn left and you are on ocean drive and turn right and there are many shops and bars along Collins Ave. The super bowl was on whilst when we were there and this made for a great atmosphere.

The pool was great and the bar offered great food along with a happy which we used quite well as it was expensive to drink in the bars around ocean drive. The pool is rooftop and looks out on to the beach.

We had one issue where the toilet blocked, informed reception and it was sorted within 10 mins!

The concierge was helpful and got us a shared transfer to the airport and Miami heat tickets.

I have to say Miami is one of my favourite places that I have ever been to.

Will defiantly go back.

We stayed at The Hotel of South Beach during the 54th Super Bowl. We had the King Oceanfront suite with patio overlooking Ocean Drive. It was a really big suite, Large bathroom with rainshower head. Bed was very comfortable. The walls and windows really blocked out the sound. From the beginning with Ricardo as Concierge and bell hop he was very welcoming and helpful. The rooftop pool food and bar were great! We enjoyed the bar off hotel lobby too. There was great security with the hotel. It was very clean. I believe the gal that checked us in her name was Jana. She was very friendly. Great people watchinng from our balcony and great location to several amazing restaurants. I have already told several of my friends about this hotel. Great hotel for the price point. Would stay hear again!

One block off of ocean drive with ocean views! In the middle of everything!!Walk to the excitement, restaurants and beach. Complimentary beach chairs and umbrella at beach reserved just for you. Relax at the hotel. Great view of ocean from rooftop pool/bar. Wished rooftop would stay open later. Fabulous service! Room was retro- maybe not what most expect with all the modern bells and whistles but for the location and the service you can’t beat it! Grocery and liquor store one block away. Most places on ocean drive charge a 20% service charge on literally everything, so if we can save a buck, we save a buck. One on one attention and David makes you feel like you are in movie Pretty Woman! Would recommend and will definitely be back!

We did not stay in the main building but in the annex directly to the rear...on Ocean Boulevard. The entrance is through a side walk restaurant, not as nice as the Collins Avenue location but ok, the room we had was called an atelier, actually was a decent sized room which at first looked rather stark but as we spent more time in it we realized that all we needed was there, a small bar area, a generous king bed, tv, a nice window bench, iron and ironing board, robes, and nice toiletries. Not luxurious but certainly nice and a great location. Ask for a rear room as it was very quiet. They also offered free beach lounges ( umbrellas were $20).

We stayed in one of the Atelier rooms, which are actually in the building right on Ocean Drive, so pretty hard to beat the location. The hotel pool is amazing, with lots of sun loungers, shade etc. Afternoon happy hours with awesome cocktails.

All of the staff we encountered were super friendly and helpful. Self parking is available a block away and only costs €18 per day. Collins Avenue is also on the Hop on Hop off bus tour of Miami, so really easy to get around.

Pros: Easy walking distance to beach and restaurants; helpful & friendly concierge (older gentleman-forgot his name); comfortable bed; nice, hot shower; separate room for toliet; great rooftop pool with fantastic bar and waitstaff with tasty pina coladas; good value for location. Cons: We were in the newer building on the corner of 8th and Ocean avenue. Even though our room wasn't facing ocean ave. it was still very noisy every night. Made it difficult to sleep. Could hear the boom, boom, boom of the bass and people coming up the elevator at all hours. This is a great place if you're here to party and be close to the action, but for a couple in their early 60s, it just wasn't for us. Be aware you have to walk down the street, past guys making drug deals on the corner and people hanging out on the steps into your building to get into your room. Didn't feel totally safe. Realized this was the exact corner where there was a mass shooting in March 2022. Wish I had known; Also, when we checked in we were told there was no self-parking spots available and that they only had valet, which was considerably most costly. What? You don't have enough spots to accommodate your guests? Was a little put off by that. After hesitating about what we were going to do the concierge spoke up and told us there was general parking available for $20 per nite and that most likely their $18 per nite self-parking availability would most likely open up the next night, which it did. Overall, I can't recommend this hotel and would not stay there again. But of course it's all what kind of trip you're looking for.

Thank you for your review of your recent stay at The Tony Hotel. Your feedback is extremely valuable to us and we regret that your stay in South Beach did not meet your expectations or ours. The safety of our guests is always our top priority, and we are in close contact and collaboration with local authorities who are committed to ensuring the safety of the millions of visitors who enjoy the natural resources and beauty of the lively Art Deco district each year. Regarding parking, we apologize that your options were not clearly and immediately explained to you. We offer self-parking access cards to our guests for $18 per night at the 7th street garage only one block away, which we believe is the least expensive parking option for any hotel on South Beach. We hope that you will give us another chance to show you how incredible The Tony Hotel and our stretch of South Beach is. Please feel free to reach out to our CEO, Scott Srebnick at info@thetonyhotel.com.

that talked about the friendliness of the staff. The staff really is friendly, especially the concierge, David. He greeted us like long-lost relatives and gave us great advice while we were there. The lobby was classy. The room was simple but attractive and the bathroom unique. We enjoyed the mid-century modern vibe. We had everything we needed; there was a refrigerator, coffee maker, plenty of room to unpack our clothes, and double blinds to block out the light. Our room was quiet and comfortable. The only improvement I can think of would be a microwave. Other than that, it was all there, even bathrobes. We really liked the location which is convenient to restaurants, a couple of markets and, of course, the beach. The beach chairs included in the stay are really loungers. We also rented an umbrella for $20 because we didn't want to carry our beach tent from the parking garage, which is actually quite close to the hotel. Self-parking is a little less expensive than the garage charges. I am glad I chose this hotel for our stay. We were treated very well and enjoyed the venue.

There isn't enough space for me to write how much I loved my stay here!
The place is absolutely beautiful and spotless and they've left nothing to chance.
The moment you walk into the lobby, you smell a beautiful fragrance that can be experienced throughout the property...
The rooms are beautiful, right down to the bathrobes in the closet, to the nice toiletries, hair dryer, bottled water, refrigerator and iron!
There is no loud music playing and the maids in the hallway are quiet and considerate.
The employees here are some of the best I've seen; including Clark on the Front Desk, David in the lobby, and Carline and Darryl in the restaurant!
And last but not least, a big "Thank You" to the General Mgr. Lynne Lulfs...she made me feel welcome and like a member of the family!
I had previously stayed at other SOBE hotels, but I am now a convert! The location is great too, right in the heart of all the action...
The Hotel is a whole vibe and I'm here for it!
Sincerely,
Carol Wilkinson

the place looks great but when it comes to attention to details there are problems:
my room looked fine but there was only one single lamp for the entire room. the lamp in my room didn't work. i reported this an hour after i checked in: the lamp remained broken for the duration of my 4-night stay. the only other way to light the room was with glaring overhead lights, not exactly pleasant. also this lighting scheme isn't great for those of us who like to read in bed.

the location if the hotel is great: a block from the beach. i asked for a beach towel and was told i could get one for free from any of the lounge-chair vendors on the beach between 8th and 9th streets if i told them my room number. as it turned out there were NO lounge-chair vendors on the beach between 8th and 9th streets.

small details? when i'm paying over $200/night i expect more.

Overall I had a good experience, but a couple things about the room were bothersome to me. The check in /checkout was well done. I felt the front desk staff did a good job explaining things and staff members were friendly. The location was nice and near the beach. I really felt the room lighting was terrible as there were only overhead lights and no lamps. You either shine a bright light over the bed or over the seating. I also felt the towels and sheets were scratchy. Lastly, better soundproofing would help as you heard everyone coming back throughout the night/morning. This interfered with getting any reasonable sleep. Maybe all places are like that in this area but it was pretty noticeable here. We were up early for a flight and I had a slight urge to prance and giggle down the hall at 6 am.
