Detailed Reviews
I have stayed at the Renaissance Hotel in Plantation a few times this year. For those not familiar with Fort Lauderdale, this hotel is far away from Fort Lauderdale beach so do not come here if you want a beach vacation. This hotel is best for business travelers or visits with nearby family. The hotel caters to business travelers, airline crew and families.
Access to the Renaissance Hotel is an issue for first time visitors. The hotel address is Pine Island Road but the hotel is not on Pine Island Road. Your GPS will direct you to an entrance to an apartment complex called Cornerstone. You will turn right on an unmarked road and pass an office building before you see the hotel. There is $8/day parking charge for unsecured parking shared with next door apartment building!
Service at the Renaissance is mediocre. There is no housecleaning service (unless you specifically request it) so request a few days worth of towels, shampoo and coffee/tea at check in. The high end restaurant on site does not pick up the phone and the lobby coffee stand cannot handle a "crowd" of two customers.
We chose to not have housekeeping service because of COVID. I was okay with exchanging dirty towels for clean towels with the morning staff on our floor.
Your room with double beds may range in size from tight to very large. The decor was strange - retro dark furniture with bronze accents, ugly mermaid statue, photo murals. The windows insulate outside noise - rooms facing 595 and pool had no noise problems. Good points: brightly lit bathroom, no carpeting (floors are vinyl wood) and lots of desk and lamp outlets, mini fridge (but no microwave).
You will need a car to get around - no nearby restaurants within walking distance. Get your caffeine fix at Starbucks that is a short drive at Broward and Pine Island.
COVID issues: No housekeeping unless requested. Very few hand sanitizer stations. Mask rules were not enforced at start of 2021 with many guests hanging out in lobby with no masks and in late summer with restrictions loosened, most guests are not wearing masks. Staff still wears masks.

We stayed here for 4 nights in late March 2021. I read some bad reviews and was a little hesitant to stay here. Our stay was very nice and we didn't experience any of the major problems that I had read about. The Good...This place was only 15 minutes from the airport and the beach in a short Uber ride. I thought it was very and safe had good customer service. The pool was nice and the room was very clean and exactly what we wanted. The Bad...No shuttle service, which I can understand in these times, but it would be nice to get rides to and from the airport. The pool area needs a little more attention on cleanliness and picking up after other Guests that don't pickup after themselves. The water pressure in the shower was light, but not a big deal for me. The Wi-fi is not strong and it goes out often. I also believe that hotels should have information about food and shopping near the hotel for guests in the room. All of these are not big issues, but they are things that can make the hotel much better. Overall I believe this is a nice hotel and they are trying their best to make your experience a good one.

Thank you for staying with us and taking the time to provide such valuable feedback. I apologize for the issues with the hotel Wifi and it is obvious we fell well short of creating a memorable stay. Please know we have shared your feedback in order to prevent these issues from happening again. We hope you can give us another try in the future. Kindest regards

We stayed in Plantation during the holiday season to visit the South Florida region, albeit the coldest it's been there in years.
The Renaissance was well priced, good location to all the events we would visit to include the Hard Rock casino, Green Bay Packers and Miami Dolphins Christmas Day game and an Everglades Airboat Swamp Tour as well as South Beach. The hotel is in a good location to the freeway and Florida Turnpike.Â
We arrived a little late but Jonathan was very welcoming and had our upgraded Executive Suite ready for us. Parking is safe and plentiful around the hotel and the lake has a very cool view as well from our room 731. The suite we had was very very nice and had a little fridge and microwave too. King bed was comfortable but the couches were not and it was hard to get comfy after a long day of sightseeing. The TV had basic local channels but no apps to watch Amazon Prime and/or Netflix.Â
Lobby and surroundings were elegant, and had complimentary breakfast which is the typical Marriott buffet. We saw $22.99 for the whole breakfast experience which we did not try nor did we try dinner. The three Elevators were fast and as mentioned in previous posts, some areas are in need of a deep cleaning.
Â
I would give it higher scores but the very very thin walls you could hear everything and we mean everything. We were in a corner suite and could easily hear people talking as well as kids as well as, well you know! No fault of the staff, just a heads up!
All in all, a good safe location during the holiday season with a friendly staff with very thin walls!

Let’s start w the one good thing. The pool is nice and generally not busy. Of course they forgot to have clean towels one morning.
I was really annoyed that they sprang a parking fee on us that I hadn’t seen when I priced out the hotel including taxes and fees. The desk clerk’s response was , oh yeah, we added it last year
It was hard to get internet
The air conditioning was so noisy it woke us up
Check the location. It was ok for us as it was near my sons house but if you need to be be near Fort Lauderdale or anything it’s inconvenient.
The decor is ugly .
The only toiletry I cared about wasn’t full. I understand it’s hard to check everything but it just didn’t feel like these folks were trying
This place was not up to what I expect from Marriott. Above I listed a few reasons but the bottom line is it’s just basically mediocre
This was not what I expected from Marriott. Not horrendous, just mediocre.

Dear Phillips3675, I would like to thank you for staying at the Renaissance Fort Lauderdale-Plantation and sincerely apologize for the various issues you encountered during your stay. Thank you for taking the time to provide such valuable feedback. Providing the highest level of hospitality is our number one priority and it is very apparent we fell well short of these expectations. We have shared this feedback with the appropriate leaders to ensure necessary actions are taken to prevent these things from happening again. I hope you can give us another chance should you return to the Plantation area as this is certainly not our standard of service. Kindest regards

I really liked the look and feel of this hotel and it's rooms. Bed is reasonably comfy. Rooms and hotel overall appears to have received a recent refresh. Showers (one of my important amenity favs) are very nice with modern fixtures.
Here's my reason for giving this hotel 3 stars. It's more of a penalty rating. The Wifi. First, it cut out last night when I was working. Tried on all 5 devices and nothing. Not user error. When I called the front desk they sounded very annoyed and told me they could send an engineer to my room "to help me fix my issues". It wasn't an issue with all 5 of my devices. I asked if they simply could reset their system and was again told, they didn't see anything to believe it was malfunctioning (even though I was literally telling them about a malfunction). After calling corp. and being fairly stern with them, they reluctantly reset the system and guess what? The wifi was back 3 minutes later. Thanks! Then the next day as I was trying to work, the wifi would cut out about every 15 minutes. I mean c'mon, you're a modern name brand hotel (I think the biggest in the world), and you haven't figured out how to have reliable internet? Huge issue in my opinion. Easily enough for me to not stay here again for work. If I can't work, it's worthless to me.

BUYER BEWARE! I recently canceled my booking understanding that I booked a pre-payment rate, and it's not refundable. I do want to point out that the terms and conditions of this booking do NOT mention that I cannot change dates, it simply highlights it is not refundable. I have reached out to the General Manager Chris Reger & Kym Nielsen and Jeremy Williams from Accounting for the last 4 weeks and I have not heard back from the Hotel sense. I opened a case with the BBB and still no reply from the Hotel. So, essentially, the T&C's on your confirmation should be updated to say non-refundable AND NON-CHANGEABLE. This hotel will take your money in my case, 862.19 USD, and rebook the room to someone else and will pocket double the money and not even issue a future credit voucher or even a simple reply. In times during a pandemic, who wants to stay in Florida when the case numbers are the highest in the country. I will not recommend this hotel to anyone based on the service altogether.

If any of your children are at the nearby universities I highly suggest that you stay at this hotel. The staff are incredibly kind and welcoming. The location is perfect and you can get to any place you need. They are ready and willing to help you even if your west coast flight gets you in at 11 pm.

Had a room booked and had to cancel because of flight changes. Needed to move reservation to next week but since the rooms was booked with "non-refundable rate" there was nothing they could do to make it right. They charged me the full price and didn't make any effort to help me with a discounted rate for the following week or anything. Very disappointed that they just kept saying they could not do anything. There was a lot they could have done to make this right considering I was coming the following week but they just didn't want to do it. I will never stay at this hotel again. Be careful when you book because the don't care about their recurring guest at all.

AdrianoG8606CA, Thank you for taking the time to provide details regarding the booking process. Unfortunately the booking details regarding the rate you chose clearly state the stay is non-refundable vs other booking options where we have the ability to work with guests regarding refunds and rescheduling. I apologize for the inconvenience this caused you. Kindest regards

Overall based on the lobby and the room it appears that the hotel did a decent job with its renovation. However, they need to ensure that they are dusting more often because the bathroom vent had an unsightly amount of dust in it which in turn made me feel like the entire room was dirty. Also, their front desk staff is not very warm or pleasant.
I should also mention that I was double-charged for my stay by the person who checked me in and now have to spend time rectifying a mistake that they made. I would say if you are stuck choosing between this hotel or one that is a little bit more in price, please just choose to stay somewhere else because it's just not worth it.

Good room. Housecleaning does not come with room reservations. This was not explained when we checked in. Not sure if housecleaning is an extra charge. Decent cheeseburger at the bar, but not much else on the menu. Breakfast menu items were limited.

Royal Tunbridge Wells, United Kingdom43 contributions30 helpful votesCan you get food at the bar if you don’t want to use restaurant?
Top floor, lake view, nice breakfast in executive lounge...sometimes a nice suite upgrade!
I believe the common areas should be done but as to getting all the rooms done, that is a good question for the hotel if you will receive a remodeled room.
I'm sure if you Google the hotel, there will be an email address for you to contact and suggest you could get an answer about bedding by just sending an email.
