We visited St Augustine during the week before Christmas so the area was very busy. The hotel is away from the action of downtown but is very nice and convenient for visiting the entire area. The front desk personnel are helpful with tips on using local transportation for accessing downtown.
In my opinion it is too far to walk from the hotel to downtown. We had a car and did drive downtown but finding a parking place is a hassle during busy times and parking is $10 to $20. The hotel has an outside pool and the rooms on the back of the hotel overlook it and the city. Breakfast is not free and cost $5 to $9 depending if you have hot food or all cold food. The Old town trolley will pick you up for free from the hotel as long as you are going to purchase Trolley tickets but you will have to find your own way back. The front desk has a phone number for a local driver who you can call and he will pick you up to return to the hotel. It cost us $3 each and we tipped him so the total for both of us was $10. The driver is very reliable so don't hesitate to use him. Below are some quick tips:
Take advantage of the on/off Trolley services to tour the city. Go to the beach area via the Vilano Causeway and the Bridge of Lions. Be aware they lift the bridges at certain times so you may get stuck in traffic. Go to the lighthouse. Eat at Pizzaalleys on St George St and spend time walking and shopping downtown.

Having never visited St.Augustine before, it was challenging to choose a good hotel in an affordable price range and good location, as many hotels were fully booked for spring break. I had read many reviews and settled on the Sebastian, which is right outside of town. I couldn’t tell if the town was walking distance or not, and didn’t know what to expect regarding difficulty parking, busy streets, etc. Overall the hotel is quite decent but a bit bland. It did not seem very recently remodeled as the room decor is ok but not quite as nice or as comfortable as the pictures suggest. We booked a fairly pricey room (water view balcony) but because it was only on the 2nd floor, our view was mainly of the mudflats, the parking lot and pool. We had to wait an hour to check into our room despite arriving well after check-in time but that might be just because of busy spring break and more time for COVID cleaning. A very cold, unheated pool is surrounded by a busy parking lot (which is not clear in the hotel photos.) The hot tub was good but at times, overly crowded. There were many families coming and going at all hours day and night. You can purchase a hot breakfast the night before to be delivered to your room ( didn’t try it - as we had fruit in the fridge for the first AM and just went out in town for breakfast on the next morning ). The Kreuig coffeemaker came with a decent brand of “donut house” coffee, the blackout curtains worked well , and the beds were fine. Other than that, the balcony, and the much appreciated free parking, I’d say amenities were pretty spare and there’s nothing of interest close by, as the hotel is on a busy road and I think front facing rooms would be pretty noisy. I also would not recommend walking into town, especially not at night, as it’s a bit further than expected and unlit . We had been told city parking could be difficult but we had no problems parking in public lots in the various neighborhoods in St. Augustine , and especially after dark, parking was both convenient and easy. Because the town was so busy for spring break, I’m glad we chose to stay outside of it, as I wouldn’t have liked staying at any of the more central small inns that were overrun with maskless tourists milling about. This hotel also has a small gym, and offers a shuttle to and from town.

I’m a reluctant traveler during this pandemic, but needed to stay in St Augustine during December. This is exactly what I was looking for during COVID ... cleanliness, space, ease of check-in. They were able to accommodate my request for a first floor, pet friendly room because I explained I didn’t want to deal with getting in elevators during this time. Check in and front desk personnel were quick and friendly. The location was a very close drive to the historic district, but far enough away from all the congestion of that area. Plentiful parking. Again, CLEAN and following COVID protocols- masks, hand sanitizer, sanitized pens, social distancing in lobby-was adhered to and mattered very much to me.

Also have to point out that their rates were much more reasonable than anything in the historic district, and though it isn’t walking distance to all the attractions, you definitely save money on your stay!

Would absolutely stay again and would recommend!

Location: The location of this hotel is pretty close to down town but not exactly close enough to walk to everything 25min at least to get to the popular area. You will have to drive to get to any near restaurants.

Staff: The staff here are very friendly and seem accommodating. Did not have any issues there.

Rooms: The rooms are the biggest issue. They are large and seems like they did not plan for multi family stays. No two of the same rooms are next to each other. SO if you want to be close to another family they you are staying with then you will have to spend another $100 a night to be next to them.
Continuing with rooms, we stayed memorial day weekend to which I am guessing is the first weekend this hotel had been booked to almost capacity since COVID-19 started and we do not think they went through and cleaned the rooms. Definitely found BUGS in the beds and bathrooms. TV is very small and poorly placed for the size of the room. The beds are EXTREMELY uncomfortable and hard as a rock. They give you three small pillows per bed and they have zero support. Sleep did not come easy for my wife and I at all.

All in all, won't stay here again.

we arrived over the Thanksgiving weekend. 11/25/20 - 11/29/20. The first night we checked in, the room was not properly cleaned and had spots on the bathroom walls. There was also popcorn and hair ties under beds. we complained to front desk and they were able to relocate us to another room and upgraded us to a suite. The first night we looked over the obvious areas and wiped down all the knobs and surfaces with clorox wipes and sprayed lysol around the room and then we stepped out for dinner. On the 2nd night our daghter opened the cabinet under the wet bar sink and there was garbage from the previous occupants inside. We called to let them know that their cleaning staff isn't doing a good job of making sure the rooms are clean, especially with the pandemic. There should be extra safety measures. We talked to Patty the manager who can only say "is there anything I can do" but what can you do at that point, get moved to another room that hasn't been properly cleaned? I know we already wiped all the knobs, counter surfaces, tv and microwave ourselves so we opted to stay and houskeeping came up to remove the garbage. TRYP your cleaning staff does not care enough for the safety of yourselves or other guests by continuously cutting corners and not putting any quality or care in their tasks. I expect more from anyone associated with WYNDHAM!!! Maybe you care or maybe you don't but I will not stay at a TRYP hotel ever again. On another note: covid 19 restrictions do not allow housekeeping to clean your room daily, so the only task is to clean rooms thoroughly prior to the next guests arrival.

My husband and I stayed at the Sebastian Hotel in St. Augustine, Florida for three nights. We chose this hotel because it was pet friendly and centrally located to many attractions. The hotel staff was extremely knowledgeable and professional. They advised us about the courtesy shuttle service from the hotel and answered our questions about purchasing tickets for the trolley tour.

We stayed in Tower B, room 417 which faced the rear of the building. The room was spacious and quiet, and we never hear any noise from the pool area which could be viewed from our room. From another window in our room we could see the top towers of Flagler College, the Sebastian Winery, and the canal leading to the Intercoastal waterway. Our hotel was clean and the beds were quite comfortable for sleeping. The windows had blackout curtains which enabled us to sleep later then expected.

The hotel provides complimentary coffee in the lobby daily. The front desk staff even gave our Pomeranian pup a doggy treat, which he eagerly accepted! We ate breakfast one morning at the hotel, which serves a hot buffet for hotel guests. There is a fee ($12.95 for adults, $8.95 for children). The breakfast is unremarkable and similar to what many other hotel chains offer on a complimentary basis.

In conclusion, we enjoyed our stay at the Sebastian Hotel and would certainly stay again.

We initially booked a room for 2 days, planning to decide where to stay the rest of the week after arriving. After checking in and seeing the property and the room, we booked 3 more nights immediately. We were treated wonderfully the entire time, but booked elsewhere for the weekend because the balcony rooms were either very expensive or unavailable. While we were checking out Friday, my wife was talking to Andreas, who runs housekeeping. Andreas told us we couldn't leave! That we were family and she couldn't let us stay at the property we had booked for the weekend. After speaking with Shadelle at the front desk, who was one of the best reception people we've ever met, we ended up cancelling our other reservation and staying 4 more days - in a balcony room that they found and discounted for us. From Shadelle, to Andreas, to the wonderful ladies in the hotel restaurant (Mary, Carol and Michelle), we have never been treated better at any hotel. Service was 11 out of 10, but the property was also clean, nice and only a mile from the historic district. Definitely a must-stay in our future, if we can get in lol.

I almost rated lower, because we had just stayed in a wonderful inn; this did not compare at all, except in the size of the room and close to the same cleanliness upon checking in, but there were even a few improvements by the inn even on those items.

They both had a balcony, but the inn was right on a river with ducks and was concerned about our safety by allowing us to lock the door. This hotel was a view across a parking lot with what appeared to be an electrical substation as part of the view of the inlet, which was better than just concrete, but you could not lock it, so I rigged a noise alert, since they were not concerned with safety.

This hotel did not offer even a continental breakfast for free; the inn was a full breakfast. The hotel mentions having certain things, but they want to charge for it all. Also, the free shuttle they mention would take you to see everything, including the lights, and will pick you up, doesn’t run until after the last light tour, so you wouldn’t have a ride back if you are scheduled then.

You do not get housekeeping at the hotel. You have to request towels and trash bags, but they will only come to you if available, otherwise you must take the dirty down and pick up the clean.

The inn provided total service while you were out and without any issues.

The hotel charged more for less.

Also, the quality of things to do in comparison to cost made it unjustifiable for the rate to be higher for staying there, due to where it was, even that was better at the inn, which charged less.

The hotel’s bathroom was more awkwardly set up, too.

Now, you can hopefully see why it was a little difficult to even give the rating I did; it was allowing for the few better than average items to offset the worse ones.

The friendliest front desk person was there at check out; that didn’t help either.

We came to st Augustine to see the night light show.which is breath taking.needing a room for 2 nights, thought we’d try Tryp hotel.our rate was low ,surprisingly .hotel is comparable to some Marriott properties.one of our concerns was ,we wanted to bring our 4 lb .dog.they were accommodating, only charging small fee.restaurant is pay as you go.9.95 for buffet style breakfast.servers were carol and Barbara.very pleasant and gave us great service.we even got some touring advise from carol.i commend the hotel management for having such personable staff in the restaurant.the rooms are modern and extremely large. Location of hotel is against a harbor ,sheltering many vessels,so it’s picturesque.glass walk in showers are a plus and sometimes hard to find in hotels ,but this one has them.

We recently spent 3 nights at the Tryp Sebastian St. Augustine. This hotel is fairly new and has some very nice perks. There is also improvement to be made.

On the good side, the staff are very helpful and friendly. The rooms are large with a work desk, eating table, kitchenette area and comfortable bathroom vestibule. We were able to buy 3 day trolley tickets and summon rides right from the hotel desk. The lobby is also large and comfortable, with access to a computer if you need one. They have an onsite restaurant.

The issues we had were mostly with the food and housekeeping. We ate in the hotel for breakfast the first day. The staff are very friendly, but the cooked food is sub standard. They do have pre-packaged cereals if that is your thing. We did not eat there again.

Our first full day we left to sightsee and left the "please make up room" sign out. We returned 7 hours later at 5 pm and found our room untouched! No clean towels, no refilled coffee pods, etc. Nobody had taken care of our room. I double checked to see we had not left the "do not disturb" sign out and we had not. They just skipped our room completely! They came the following day after I spoke to a housekeeper in the hallway.

Overall, the management should tighen up the housekeeping policy to assure all rooms are serviced. The in house breakfast foods need improvement. Otherwise, it is a nice, clean, comfortable stay with plenty of FREE parking!!

We are staying overnight here in about a week on our way home. I will update then.
