Nestled in the heart of the city, the Renaissance St Augustine Historic Downtown Hotel boasts an upscale and modern atmosphere that captivates guests. The well-appointed rooms and charming lobby are regularly praised for their cleanliness and contemporary decor. While the hotel's staff is generally celebrated for their friendliness, some guests have encountered service hiccups. Spacious rooms equipped with modern amenities add comfort, although a lack of certain furniture pieces has been mentioned. Despite its central location and proximity to downtown attractions, the value proposition is debated due to high costs and average dining options.

The Renaissance hotel is new, extremely clean, and has efficient valet parking. The location is excellent as it is just outside the perimeter of the busy tourist area yet within walking distance to St George Street and many attractions. The hotel's outside Christmas decorations were the best in the area. As Bonvoy Platinum members we received free daily breakfast in Castillo (anything off the menu), which is a nice perk. However, our Suite Night Award and upgrade request were denied. All hotel staff we encountered were professional and friendly. Although the lobby is gorgeous and modern with an upscale ambiance, we felt the actual room we had did not match that vibe at all. Our room felt like a college dorm room as it contained only several random pieces of furniture/lamps that looked like they came from IKEA. There was excessive empty space in the cavernous room so the small scale of furniture seemed odd. The furniture also seemed very cheap and the sofa was extremely low to the ground and very uncomfortable/hard. No pictures or decorations were present on the walls except for one picture in the bathroom so the room felt stark and truly a mismatch for this caliber of hotel. Also, there was only one very tiny window in the room and inadequate lighting so the room was a bit dark. However, everything was in good working order, the bed was very comfortable, linens were pristine, and there were plenty of outlets by the bed for electronics. Bathroom had a walk in shower stall with glass doors, hand-held and overhead rain showerheads, plus wall-mounted shared large bottles of toiletries (which we don't like to use). Water temperature and pressure were good. The counter vessel sink was a bit difficult to use to reach over to brush teeth/wash face. Housekeeping serviced the room daily. The hotel restaurant Castillo was excellent and had some interesting choices on the menu in addition to the basics. We had several dinners and breakfasts there and everything we ate was very fresh, delicious, and good quality. Also, the service at Castillo was always excellent. The coffee bar in the hotel lobby only has beverages but no snacks and there is no sundries/gift shop. We did enjoy our stay at the Renaissance and, despite the room's shortcomings, would definitely stay here again.

An ex-employee of Home Goods or Pier 1 likely decorated the lobby of this hotel. It is a mishmash of grotesque chessboard pieces (or maybe lamp bases) combined with a collection of uncomfortable chairs and an abundance of garage sale books on random shelves. There is also a staircase that seems to lead to nowhere.
The late evening/overnight staff was discourteous and unaccommodating. Compared to the two ladies that manned the desk in the morning/afternoon who were accommodating, courteous and provided great service. The evening crew should take notes.
The hotel restaurant was expensive; the food was bland and unmemorable. The waitress was good. The valets were great and polite. The room was average. Bring your own shampoo, unless you want to use the same community bottle the previous 10 guests used. Disabled access doors were not working. Bonvoy members are not given any special treatment.

This hotel was build to look like the original hotel from the 1800's on the outside.
The inside is designed very ultra modern. It has a beautiful staircase as you walk in.
There is a coffee bar that has Starbucks, a bar and a restaurant. We had a room with a king size bed and a balcony. The room was not very large but it was really nice. When you turn on the TV the screen welcomes you by name. They have valet parking for 35.00 or you can park in the parking garage across the street for 15.00, but the parking garage charges the 15.00 every time you go in or out. With valet you can get your car as many times as you want for the one time fee. The hotel is within walking distance to many of the sites and restaurants. The hotel has lemon water and cucumber water in the lobby for anyone who wants it. The hotel has 89 rooms. It does have meeting rooms and in the restaurant it has a large room for
groups. The restaurant was excellent. The staff was excellent. I Highly recommend this hotel!

This was our second stay at this new hotel. We really liked the restaurant next door and decided to come back for a second stay.

Pros:
Historic looking exterior which fits into this historic city
Front desk personnel very helpful and accommodating
Valet parking available (but expensive)
Coffee bar in the lobby
Restaurant next door has good food
Room very clean but spartan
Comfortable beds and bedding
Rain shower head

Cons:
No breakfast
Pricey
Refrigerator but no microwave
Ultra modern lobby and rooms contrasting to historic exterior
Room lights so low you cannot read
Table in room has no chairs so no way to use it (requested two chairs from front desk which were finally delivered two hours later)
Emailed hotel receipt indicated a double charge for valet parking ($35 a night) when we only stayed one night. It was corrected upon checkout.

We'll try another place on our next visit.

We just stayed in this recently opened hotel. Be prepared the decor on the inside, though beautiful, does not match the outside, historic St. Augustine look. The rooms and decor are very modern including a huge downstairs lobby that is all modern furniture/art. The room size is really good enough for single people or couples, and I wouldn't recommend if you are larger sized people as we felt ourselves bumping into one another a lot with three people. The toilet bowl seating area may be too constricted for larger sized individuals. The shower floor is tile so it can be slippery for those worried about fall risks, but it does have handles and great double shower heads. The location is great, within walking distance to St George street and the fort. For families with young kids, it may be tough because aside from the porches and the large lobby, there is really no place for kids to run around. Also, minor detail, but there are no light switches. You have to turn all of the lights on/off individually, which I am sure is economical but could be slightly frustrating when you first walk in and are fishing to get lights on (which happened to us.)

Upon arrival, we were met by the valet staff, which were wonderful. We were able to check in a little early, after having called to be placed on a wait list for early check in. The desk staff was great and very helpful.
Our room was really pretty and seemed very clean. However, our bathroom shower was disgusting. It had a growth of orange and dark molds. We did not realize this until the next morning because we were out all evening and it was late when we returned, so we didn't use the shower that night. We only reserved one night, so when we used the shower in the morning, we saw it.
Upon checkout, we told the front desk staff and showed her photos, she was very apologetic. We were offered a minimal discount, $50, on an almost $500/night room rate. In addition, we were given some points on our membership account.
The restaurant breakfast was good, not great.
Overall, we were somewhat disappointed with our stay. We had really high expectations. It's a shame that the shower was so bad and the restaurant was mediocre. We really expected more from this high end of a hotel.

This is a difficult review to compose. Be aware the viewpoint is that of a 75 year old who has traveled quite a bit.

We arrived at the hotel on it’s 6th day of operation. It was brand new and sometimes newly opened hotels need to grow a bit. We gave the hotel 4 stars. Based only on the friendliness and attitude of everyone at the hotel they deserve 6 stars but we need to include the physical parts as well. Everything was new. Our room was very large but mostly empty. There was no dresser or desk so while there was a small area to hang clothes and a couple of small shelves we ended up living out of suitcases for the most part. I did ask if more furniture was coming but was told No, the intention was to be minimalist. It was not as functional as I would like a hotel room to be and frankly the empty space was very odd.

So excellent staff, a neat clean environment with nice decorations but for my travel needs not as functional as I would like.

Additionally we used the restaurant for breakfast and the bar in the evening. The breakfast menu was a bit limited but what was offered was very good and as with the hotel the service was excellent and everyone was wonderful. Same for the bar. The bartender was a delight and we enjoyed our nightcaps.

To sum up – many great aspects but the lack of functionally in the room was not to our liking.

Like many reviews mention, the disconnect between the outside and the inside is dramatic. It seems as though they were going for vintage, quaint Victorian outside and a modern interior design. The outside is beautiful, and so it the interior but the interior suffers from a strong conflict between form and function, where design won over functionality. It is a beautiful example of modern chique but it just does not function well. As everyone mentions, the translucent shower wall adjoins the bedroom. Turning on a bathroom light results in lighting up the entire bedroom! My truly brilliant wife’s solution was a battery powered twinkle light string on the toilet tank. Plenty of light to “operate” at night and your companion will not be disturbed by the light show. The coffee station was also not thought through- you have to pull the coffee maker out of the cubby to fill it! No make up mirror, no full length mirror, beautiful bedside lighting that is too bright with no ability to dim them. No closet or drawers for clothing (again, I get it, minimalist modern . . . ), which is fine for an overnight but not for more than a couple of days.

On the plus side, the place is beautiful and the location is wonderful for enjoying the tourist attractions of St. Augustine! The staff was very kind and courteous.

Based on my review, thus far, you may be surprised that we loved the hotel. It is sad that this new hotel, with so much going for it, frequently fails because of design features. They fully committed to the design aspects so nothing short of a major redesign will fix it (which won’t happen on a new hotel for quite a while) but we are still glad that we stayed here. We will return again some time!

Our stay at this hotel was truly delightful. We were in town for a wedding in January, and the lingering holiday charm, with Christmas lights still twinkling, added an extra touch of magic to our experience.

The beds were wonderfully comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep, and the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. We had to adjust our travel plans for an earlier arrival, and the hotel went out of its way to ensure we could stay in the same room. Their kindness was truly appreciated.

The hotel is divided into two properties connected by a breezeway, with the check-in area on one side and a restaurant on the other. Although we didn't dine at the restaurant, it seemed bustling with activity, and guests appeared to enjoy their meals.

The only downside was the pricey parking, but we found a solution by parking across the street for a much more reasonable rate. The hotel's central location made it easy to explore on foot, and it served as a convenient meeting point. For those who prefer not to walk, Ubers were readily available.

The hotel also boasts a Starbucks with friendly staff, adding to the convenience of our stay. Our room featured a cozy balcony, though I would advise guests to consider the layout when choosing their room. Our quiet back street-facing room provided a peaceful retreat, while rooms facing the main street may experience more noise, potentially affecting light sleepers.

Overall, our experience at this hotel was wonderful, and we highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

The hotel itself is stunning and clean. It saddens me that I had to give this hotel 3 stars. First of all upon check in the lady at the desk was so involved with gossiping about a platinum member and the lack of availability for them to have a room because the hotel was over sold. When I asked her when breakfast was she indicated until 11a I heard this clearly as I repeated 11a and she said yes, but I could see she was clearly trying to listen to the family to the right of me and their check in staff. The next morning we came down for breakfast at 10:15a to learn the bed and breakfast package stopped at 10a. I asked her for a refund and after asking for a manager and reminding her that she was too involved with eavesdropping she offered a $50 return. My invoice was not credited and I am still missing that return.

Then we messaged the hotel via chat and asked for a later check out, McKenna gave us a 3p check out but the other lady who checked us in called us at 12 noon and told us our info was not accurate and we had to leave. I went to the desk and McKenna confirmed she gave us the late check out, but at this point we packed up and my husband was irate with the lack of communication and service by the front desk.

I also was appalled by the lack of accessibility at the hotel. The accessible doors coming in and out of the hotel did not work, I had to ask other guests to open doors for me. The bathrooms in the restaurant and hotel lobby are not accessible as you cannot open the doors from either side, luckily other customers were there to assist me in and out of the bathroom.

The valet staff was impeccable and professional. They were attentive and very helpful.

If you have a disability I do not recommend this hotel. If you are seeking to have a flawless stay with good communication I recommend asking for a supervisor to check you in and to insure you have the right information.
