We were only staying one night in St. Augustine and I used AAA and a couple of travel apps in searching for a hotel for the night. This Holiday Inn, on Ponce de Leon, kept coming up with a price of $141 a night. I called the hotel direct and was transferred the the general Holiday Inn reservation center. Imagine my surprise when the price given was $257. So, I kept asking for a better price and by the third time I was given a price, it was $145. When I said I would not book with Holiday Inn and would use a hotel app instead, the reservation person matched the price. So, hotel room renter beware! Do some cross checking and when speaking to a reservation clerk, always ask for a better price.

The hotel is nice. It is clean, well managed. Our room was very good. Two double beds, a small desk/chair and a reading chair and lamp. It fit our needs perfectly.

The location is an easy walk, maybe a 1/3 mile from the gates to historic St. Augustine. It was nice to leave the car at the hotel and walk around.

And, the hotel is just about two blocks from Magnolia Ave. Magnolia Ave is the beautiful neighborhood street that has very old and large live oaks on either side of street. They have grown to cover the street with a canopy of green. Quite a site. Walk over or drive over to see it.

We spent New Year's Eve '21 exploring St. Augustine. The hotel's location is close enough to walk downtown which is great since parking downtown was difficult. The hotel suite that allows 6 people was really cramped for 2 adults and 4 children (much smaller than other Holiday Inns). Breakfast is not included but there is a decent place a block away for coffee and bakery goods if you don't want to eat in the hotel restaurant. In general, the hotel is just old and in need of a renovation. It was decently clean and the staff is friendly. Beds are hard, but I prefer that over super soft and worn out. Just kind of an OK place- definitely not worth the outrageous NYE price we paid for 2 nights.

Like I stated in the title, facility and location excellent. However, one dinning room staff member and one front desk member need to work one their people skills. If you are having a not so great day dont bring it to work where your performance is affected and the customer is on the receiving end of your not so great day, it affects the rest of your team when good service is in competition with other establishments that have a similar product.

Rooms are good, however, your mattresses are in need of an upgrade... the wear and tear can be felt.

Very important, the elevator needs repair. It does not stay open and it automatically closes its doors and if someone has a hand or leg not entirely in it will get caught by the closing doors. I have great concern for the elderly and children who are incapable of an immediate response to save themselves from harm.

The lobby looked great and Della was very friendly when we checked in, told us if there was an issue, just to let her know. We thought this was great, and when we saw the fresh blood stain on top of the pillow when getting into our room, we just asked to get a new pillow, what we promptly did. When we opened the sleeper couch and saw all the dust and dirt on it, they also promptly came and vacuumed it up. I guess there wasn’t much they could do about the outdated stained couch cushions, so we didn’t mention them. The pool was unheated, what was a big disappointment to the kids, but, I guess that was on us for not checking first.

Upsetting was that the hotel was not ‘Covid-friendly’. Even though signs stated masks were required, this was not enforced and many guest freely moved about the hotel, even the breakfast area, without any enforcement by the staff. At one point another guest, not wearing a mask, tried to enter the elevator I was in with my two small masked grandchildren, and when I asked him not to, he said he could if he wanted to. So, this is not a safe hotel.

What upset me the most during our stay was their lie about breakfast. When making reservations we were told that the room charge was higher if breakfast was included and they had a great breakfast bar. We could get our food at the bar, and then take it to our room. We paid an additional $12 per day for breakfast since we were 3 adults, and the upgraded room charge was only for 2 people. When we tried to order or breakfast, we’re were limited to very very few items and told we could only have one item on the list. So, if I wanted a cup of fresh fruit that sold for $4.95 a la carte, than that would take my whole $12 voucher. One bowl of oatmeal was also worth $12. We even went to the front desk and we’re told that this is just the way it is. The next morning my husband happened to talk to the chef, and he explained that this is wrong, that we could have anything, even a vegetable omelette (I don’t eat meat or sweets like sweetened oatmeal). When my husband tried to order breakfast the second day, he also was told by the associate as well as the front desk that we could only have one of the items on the little green sheet, most items under $5. My husband had the chef called and then we finally were able to order a little more, e.g. at least have a piece of toast (no butter or jelly) and one cup of fruit. We feel cheated, exploited and lied to and definitely do not recommend this hotel, despite the good location.

Below a the cup of fruit they charge $12 for, and this is NOT a classy high end hotel. If we would not have had all the issues, I maybe would have rated it a 3.

By the way, all our feet were black and had to be ee washed after the shower, before going to bed, because the floors were not clean (I think moped with dirty water.

Oh, and when we went to the front desk to try to share our issues, we were told to just give a review.

Horrible place to stay. Rooms are super small, you have to request housekeeping or they will not come at all. The hotel is kind of off the beaten path in the historic district, so if your wanting to stay where everything is “DO NOT STAY HERE”. The walls are so thin in the hotel we heard the garbage man come and wake us up every morning at 430am. People would be yelling and running up and down the halls all day/night. There is really no privacy. I will not be staying here again.

We were booked to stay here for 4 nights. We were so excited to arrive and get settled after a long drive from NY. When we opened the door to our room, we were hit with a strong scent of mold. It was unmistakable. I didn't even want to stand in the room. The woman at the front desk, while very courteous, informed me that the entire hotel was booked and she could not change our room. She sent a maintenance worker to our room while we ate dinner in the lobby restaurant. We made other hotel arrangements, which was a huge headache during Feb break in Florida. When we went to get our things from the room, the maintenance worker had clearly sprayed the room with air freshener and wiped down the one spot of mold on the wall we had mentioned to the woman at the front desk (we had taken a photo). The hotel refused to refund us for the first night of our 4 night booking. Instead of charging us 1/4 of the price we paid through booking.com, they charged us a regular room fee, which was more. I have never refused to sleep in a hotel room once in my life. I have never once had to ask for a refund. I am disgusted and will be calling corporate Holiday Inn/IHG, Booking.com, and the FL board of health.

This is a pretty average property. It could use a facelift as the decor is very dated. It’s clean and the beds are comfortable. Average all around. It’s funny because the staff in the last Holiday Inn we stayed were much more professional, friendly and knowledgeable. The location is good as we could walk to the historic district in less than 1/2 hour.

Most everything was just okay. Room was nothing special. Elevator was very slow. Front desk staff was not friendly. Waiter at restaurant told us about a $10 buffet breakfast special that the front desk had not (thankfully before we ordered) and we had to go to the front desk to purchase tickets for it before we ate. Had requested allergy free bedding and down pillows were still there. Had to remove them ourselves. Undergoing high speed WiFi wiring so had NO WiFi for duration of our stay. Could see the wires and equipment just left in the hallway overnight. Just not what we expect from a Holiday Inn.

This was our first trip to St Augustine so we were unsure about the location of anything in relation to the hotel but we were pleasantly surprised how close it is to everything. Overall the hotel is excellent the room was immaculate equipped with microwave and refrigerator. Due to COVID-19 the restaurant is only open for dinner. The front desk staff were exceptional providing us with a wealth of information about the hotel and the city. Each day they called for the courtesy shuttle for the old town trolley and were welcoming upon our return after a long day of sightseeing

We stayed for a family vacation during the month of April and loved the facilities! It is pretty close to all the museums and attractions. Front desk staff was very friendly and we made it to the hotel a little early and our room was ready. Rooms were comfortable and the space was great! The only detail was that they never cleaned my room during the stay. Because of covid you have to write a card and leave it on front desk whenever you want service and I did handed a card but my room was never cleaned or replenished. I could see housekeeping on the hallway but they kept skipping our room even when I left the card asking for service. It got to the point where I bought trash bags and placed all the trash outside the room in the morning so they would take it. Other than that everything else was fantastic and we will be visiting again!

No, they do not charge for parking. The historic district is a 12 or so minute walk away, especially if you take the street one block behind the hotel, vs the very busy main thoroughfare in front of the hotel.
