The Casa Monica Resort & Spa, Autograph Collection, garners high marks for its cleanliness and historical charm, offering guests a blend of old-world elegance and modern amenities. While some guests feel the rooms could be refreshed and note occasional mustiness, others describe them as comfortable havens. The central location is a major draw, with easy access to local attractions. Although the service is generally commendable for its friendliness, there are reports of sporadic lapses. Travelers enjoy the variety of on-site amenities, but some are disappointed with additional charges and the value proposition.

This is a very old and charming hotel with a perfect location in the old town.Rooms are spacious.we stayed at the hotel at a busy time when they had a couple of weddings to host and understandably all public areas were packed. However we are still in the middle of a pandemic and sanitary precautions should be taken regardless. Masks were not reinforced inside and the cleanliness of the hotel could have been better.Housekeeping in the rooms is done every 4-5 d although they respond quickly when you need something. I suggest they provide all complementaries in the room such as toiletries and coffee packets for the duration of the stay so guests don’t have to call for such. I also think that trash should be removed from rooms daily even if the room is not cleaned. In our room the shower knob was wobbly and that’s pure maintenance which at the $400-500 per night should be up to par.
Restaurants are OK however very disorganized and probably understaffed; I had to ask the front desk to call someone to sit us for breakfast as the line was getting longer and people were waiting for 20min without anyone in attendance.
Valet parking is very efficient at the whopping $29 per day. They still charge resort fees even during the pandemic when service is limited .
The check out time is 11:00 not 12:00 as other Kessler collection hotels have and they are quite inflexible in allowing extra time.
I might give this hotel another chance after the pandemic is over because I like the location and as an Amex platinum member it lists as a luxury resort but some of the issues I mentioned should not have happened especially when the hotel still charges full prices for everything.

Hotel is very clean and in a prime spot. Easy to reach almost any restaurant, museum, or tourist spot by walking. Building is older so expect some minor noise from the street or people walking in rooms above. Nothing major and totally within reason for the age of the building and its prime location. Staff needs some help. Arrived at 4:45 the first day but had to wait to check in until they ensured the room was ready. Check in time is 4:00. Minor but guests should not have wait or sit in the lobby an additional 10-15 minutes when they arrive well past check in time. Wait for our bags to be brought to the room was not terrible but it certainly wasn’t quick, took them another 15 minutes after we actually got in the room to bring the bags up. The next day the bellman knocked on our door and opened it without waiting, walking in on my wife who was standing in front of the bed naked. He literally knocked as he was opening the door and never announced himself. I informed the front desk and they apologized. Today we have been listening to the maid in the hallway play music and sing loudly for the last 30 minutes as I write this review. I wanted to sleep in since this is our first trip anywhere since COVID started and I usually am up very early for work. I guess they expect that everyone will be out of their room by 930 when they are on vacation? Will not repeat if possible but nice locations within walking distance of everything are limited. No HUGE problems but multiple issues in a 2 day window warrant 3 stars for this location. When you charge $400 + resort fee + parking/valet fee you need to be better than 3 stars.

Casa Monica Resort was spotless, the staff were (for the most part) excellent. The location is prime for downtown touring by foot. We did not use their valet parking as the street parking was more reasonable (8am-5pm) Mon-Sat (Sunday is FREE). Our room was very comfortable and even during this pandemic we felt safe.

Not sure why people think this is a good place to stay. It was awful and overrated. I stay in dozens of hotels and resorts a year all around the world, and this is not a resort I would ever come back to on my own dime. It’s historic, yes. But that’s where any of the interest ended for me. The decor is tacky and dated. The rooms need total
Renovation and modernization. Dark heavy tacky furniture, scary carpet, velvet tufted headboard, no electrical outlets on either nightstand so couldn’t charge phones or devices overnight within arms length. Room nightly rates were sky high and yet they only do housekeeping on request - so lower the rates if people aren’t using the services. I got a note from the maid under my door when I left and it felt like it was asking for a tip… for what?? The shower had and old sliding door, outdated shower head with no selections for water pressure or pattern, towels were on the scratchy side. Toiletries were decent. Food on location was not great either, apart from standard fare at the Starbucks on location. Every cocktail I had from the main bar over a couple nights was AWFUL. The bartender(s) must not be experienced or need training, and they were very expensive for the size of drink. Short ribs were overcooked and tough - they should be moist and fall apart with a fork; calamari was rubbery and felt unfresh; tenderloin was mediocre but overcooked; desserts were good. Service in the restaurants was below standard - from being slow to having to ask for a bill to be corrected three times to mixing up the orders several times. This was a HOT MESS of an experience and not one I will repeat. They act like the hotel should be worshipped because of its history and age. It should be renovated and staff retrained, and priced accordingly. Luckily a new modern hotel is coming to the area soon.

For this 4th of July weekend, we planned a five-night stay at Casa Monica. We were excited to explore this historic hotel and enjoy its amenities. But more importantly, we were looking for a mini vacation to relax, disconnect and treat ourselves to a few special days. However, we cut our stay short due to the poor service by the hotel staff. While St. Augustine is a charming destination, our hotel experience was a bit of a nightmare. The most glaring unjustified excuse is the lack of housekeeping service due to Covid. If the staff and guests are free to be without a mask in the elevators, the bar, the restaurant, interacting with the front desk staff, etc. there is no reason why the most basic service of cleaning the room was limited. The times we requested towels and other room amenities, it took them over an hour and multiple calls to bring them. After expressing our frustration, the front of the house did not seem to care, as they did not bother asking what the issue was. Overall, the experience with the staff at the restaurant, the front desk, and the housekeeping was disappointing. Not what we have come to expect from this company. Casa Monica is a nice building but very poorly managed and left us with such a bad experience that we decided to leave and miss the 4th of July celebration there and not suffer one more careless situation.

First of all, we were on the way to the hotel and an hour before we arrived the hotel called us to tell us that our reservation we booked was cancelled because other guests wanted to extend their stay and they would not have a room available until the next day. So they booked us a room in a cheaper hotel that only had one bed when we were 4 people in total and we had to change the room once again. Already on the first day at St. Augustine we wasted so much time just to check in at a hotel. The next day we had to check out and go to Santa Monica hotel and check in and the room still wasn’t ready yet so we had to leave our stuff there and leave to see the town. Overall, we went to St. Augustine for a weekend and we lost so much time checking in and checking out with the hotels and we could not do as much as we would’ve liked to because of that time loss. They also did not give us back the money difference between the other hotel and Santa Monica knowing that the other hotel was much cheaper than Santa Monica. The next day we were already leaving so we decided to have breakfast in the hotel and with the eggs they did not bring any toast and when we asked for the toast they did not have wheat bread. Than when we asked for a cappuccino and caffe latte they told us they did not have anything to make the foam for it. Finally, when we were leaving we were waiting for our car and we spent about 30 minutes waiting because they could not find our car even though we gave them the ticket for the valet parking.

Stayed one night because of a wedding in town. Rooms were nice, clean and well appointed. We checked in late due to the wedding. We had booked and paid thru Amex travel so when we checked in we were told that we owed a Resort fee of $24.31 for each room. My wife who booked the room advised the front desk that she was charged that when she booked the room thru Amex. The receptionist said that wasn’t possible and she had to charge it. When we asked what it was for she said it was a Resort Fee & Parking. So we paid the charge and when we returned home the next day we checked our records and sure enough, we had paid the $24.31 for each room at time of booking so we had been charged twice. We called Amex and after some back and forth with Amex and the Hotel, the hotel agreed that it was an error and agreed to reverse the charges. Then four days later my wife checks our Amex online and see the Casa Monica processing FOUR charges to our card for $30 each. We called and were told that they didn’t charge us but processed credits. The person on the phone got irritated and told us that they would send us a statement that showed they only processed credits. So we received a statement, and the statement clearly shows charges for parking, which we were told by the firs receptionist that the Resort Fee covered parking - and no parking charges were presented to us at the time of check-out - just the Resort Fee. The charges for parking were generated the after we checked out. In addition, we only had two cars for one day, which would be 2 charges for parking and not 4.

We live close to St Augustine and when we were in the room I had commented to my wife that we should come back down and do weekend at the hotel given that it was so nice and St. Augustine is a great place to spend a weekend. But after this experience It will likely be a while before we are back simply because it’s not worth the time and effort to get to the billing right.

We had a fantastic time staying at this beautiful Kessler Downtown location, and couldn't ask for a better location to be honest! The staff was gracious, attentive and helpful from the valet to front desk, each person we met offered assistance, southern charm and recommendations to fantastic food and attractions in the area.

The lobby bar featured some cool cocktails, some even local from the nearby distillery. The property was clean and safe, they made it very clear of their protocols and expectations of the guests. Everyone wore masks indoors, elevators were 1 family per trip, and saw people cleaning public areas often.

Highly recommend it!

This hotel has artwork through and nice pieces of furniture as well. There is a Starbucks right by the lobby and is with in walking distance to all the activities and the bay.

The best thing about staying at Casa Monica is the availability to use the Seranata Beach club pass for a nominal fee of $12 and change total as long
as you are a guest at the hotel. This beach club is about 7 miles from the hotel, but it is absolutely gorgeous and well worth the ride. You have access to it from sunrise to sunset. There are two pools, a gym, plenty of seating and umbrellas around the pools. It is right on the beach! There are locker rooms, showers, restrooms, a restaurant. Everything meticulously clean and staff is friendly.

Now, the one thing that was annoying about the area of the hotel, not the beach club was that there were always “bums” loitering about on the hotel corner, steps, etc.

The hotel gym is small and two out of the 3 ellipticals didn’t work and it did not have a treadmill.

Overall a pleasant stay. Honestly, between spending all day at the beach club and then walking around the area at night you really just go to your room to shower, dress and sleep

The hotel is located in the heart of downtown surrounded by gorgeous historic buildings. The lobby makes you feel as if you were transported to Spain. The hotel restaurant did a great job incorporating Spanish flavors on their menu.

The hotel is experiencing shortage in housekeeping staff.

When we arrived at the hotel at 3:30pm, we were told our room is unavailable but we are getting a BIGGER and BETTER room on the 4th floor and it will be ready in 30 mins. We decided to take a walk around downtown while we wait for our room to be ready. We got rained on during our walk and ran back to the hotel around 4:15, expecting the room to be ready - but it was not. The front desk couldn't get ahold of housekeeping and no one knew the status of the room. The front desk was very nice and offered us towels because we were soaking wet from getting caught in the rain. We asked for a status of the room at 4:45pm, 5:15pm, and 5:45pm. By that time we were fed up and decided to eat at the the hotel restaurant (great food and service!). While we were eating, the front desk informed us that the room is ready and they can send our luggage up. When I saw the room number it was on the 3rd floor, not the 4th. We were told this room is even better than the one promised....

The room on the 3rd floor was extremely tiny. When we entered the room at 6:15pm, we noticed something on the sheets and asked for the bedding to be changed. We waited for at least an hour, then decided to leave the hotel to go exploring. We arrived at the hotel around 9:30pm expecting the bedding to be changed, it was not. The front desk told us that they are sending someone right up, it wasn't until 10:30pm that someone arrived to change our sheets.

The front desk did accommodate by offering us a breakfast voucher, restaurant voucher, and free parking. However, as a Marriott Titanium Elite member, I expected better service and rooms from this beautiful hotel.
