Nestled in a picturesque setting, The Don CeSar hotel captivates guests with its historical allure and elegant atmosphere, complete with live music and vibrant touches. However, guests have called out the disparity between the premium pricing and the actual experience, noting small and sometimes unclean rooms, as well as hidden fees that detract from the perceived value.
While the beach access and pools earn praise, the hotel's amenities receive mixed reviews, with extra costs and occasional service issues tarnishing its reputation.

We arrived at the huge Don Cesar only to be told that our reservations through RCI were in the Beach House by Don Cesar which is approximately 1/2 mile away from the imposing Don Cesar. There is a shuttle on call so one can use the amenities at the Don Cesar; food pickup is also doable with this shuttle. The Beach House looks like an older place on Gulf Blvd with a convenient location on the beach. Apparently there wasn't much maintenance done for quite a while on these units; cleaning also seemed to be an issue. I took photos of our bathroom door which had black fingerprints on both sides of said door about 18" long. My visit to Registration took care of the black fingerprint probIems right away; Amy made sure the bathroom door was cleaned. I found potato chips on the kitchen floor and noticed the hanging lamps were dusty. The caulking on the bathroom vanity was cracked along its entire length; the old caulk needs to be dug out & it needs a recaulking. We found plates, bowls & cups in the small kitchen; we only had 3 teaspoons. The sink was a "farmer's" type & the kitchen came equipped with dish detergent, dishwash detergent, paper towels, kitchen towels & wash cloths. A Keurig coffee pot with plenty of pods graced the countertop along with various types of sugar & cream. Water bottles stood ready beside the coffee pot. These were replenished each day by housekeeping. We did have plenty of towels & wash cloths in the bathroom which housekeeping also replenished. The pool had plenty of pool towels and your resort fee includes 3 chairs & an umbrella each day. Fabian makes sure each person is comfortable in their chair with umbrella coverage & plenty of towels; he also remembers your name & he uses same to speak to you. The king bed was super comfortable but took up most of the bedroom. On Saturday morning at 9am music started blaring from the speaker below us; it was so loud it drove me inside our unit. Personally I feel the music can go on later, say 12pm & not be so loud.

It is a beautiful property and beach, the history and character are lovely. The service was very good, check-in, concierge, and bellhop. However, our experience overall did not meet expectations. We had a ‘renovated’ room with an ocean view. Room was basic and not very clean, it had dusty vents and baseboards and paint stained carpet. Housekeeping didn’t come until after 5pm on day 2 and asked us if we wanted anything. Our room had no dresser, just a small cabinet in the closet but that cut out the closet space. We had 3 people for 4 days, there was not enough space. The pool experience was not great, but the bartenders and servers were very good. The pool deck is packed too tight with lounge chairs making it difficult to walk into the pool area or walk through to find a chair. People also saved the chaise lounges with their stuff so you may not get to sit near the pool. During our stay the pool was overtaken by large groups of adults who spent the day drinking and eating in the pool shallow end which made it hard to have family time in either of the pools, especially as this crowd drank more throughout the day. The beach was beautiful, although there was trash in the beach area it was likely due to so many kids there. The cabanas and beach service were good, but the side tables were dirty and not too sturdy in the wind.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
I had seen the hotel from my boat many years ago & said I would like to stay there one day. We decided on a short stay-cation to see if it lived up to the price & hype. My first strike is that they nickel & dime you for everything. There's a daily parking fee & daily resort fee on top of your hotel charges. When you pull up to unload the valet guys try to strong arm you into using their service. If not, they try to rush you away from the entrance to check in. Strike two. When walking from the parking lot to the entrance there was a big empty Doritos bag on the sidewalk along the entry ramp & an empty drink glass from the bar on the wall. easily noticeable while driving. None of the valet crew ever pick either up. Not impressive. The interior common area is impressive in the 1920s Art Deco style design. I guess historic is code to small rooms. The closet was tiny, the bathroom was small, the entry to the room was too small for two people. The pool area was nice with outdoor bars for the guests. The beach front area was nice with adequate beach chairs for the guests. They do have some water sport related experiences like jet skis, kayak, paddle boards, etc. They are extra, except if you kayak or paddle board before 10AM. There are boutique shops to buy cabana wear & overpriced food & liquor. There is an outdoor restaurant by the pool area. Did not see the menu. There are plenty of restaurants, stores, & shops immediately outside the resort to go eat, get snax, or beach stuff. The big attraction is the beach which is always beautiful. It was nice to kind of splurge for a change of pace. However, I don't believe the value for what we paid was worth the price. Next time we take a stay-cation, we'll go to the Tradewinds, )which is much bigger, more beach activities, more selection of things to do) or another hotel down the street..

We arrived for a wedding on a Friday. The room was clean and spacious, but the bathroom was small. Not impressed with the food and drinks from the pool bar based on the value (we've stayed in similarly rated hotels that were much better). Later in the day, we received a text message asking us to rate our stay so far. I gave 3.5 out of 5, a fair rating based on our limited experience. When asked what could have improved the rating, I mentioned the value compared to other places we'd stayed, and I was promptly reminded that we had received a discounted rate (wedding guest). Saturday we were out of the room most of the morning & afternoon, returning to shower and get ready for the wedding. Housekeeping had not come to clean the room all day. When they arrived just as we were getting ready to shower, we asked them to return anytime after 5 pm when we would be gone for the evening. We had to use the linens we'd used that morning to get ready. When we arrived back to our room after the reception around 11 pm, the room had still not been cleaned, and we had no towels. Called guest services to complain & they offered to bring us fresh towels, of which they brought only bath towels, no hand towels or wash cloths. When we checked out, we weren't asked how our stay was, so I told them of our experience. The clerk offered no apology, instead offered a measly $50 credit (which he didn't apply). Having a clean room with fresh towels I consider to be a significant part of a hotel stay, and the management's attitude/rudeness was a shocking disappointment. On top of that, since the hotel allows pets, there was a small dog in the room adjacent to ours that proceeded to yap constantly when the owners were out of the room. If a hotel allows pets, I suggest there be a considerable additional fee to discourage owners from bringing poorly managed pets.

If you want to regret spending your time and money the entire visit then stay here . If you like construction sounds while sitting at the beach with your book and drink by the pool area then stay here. If you like ants in your take out food then stay in a room. If you want to wake every morning to a back and neck ache from lower end bedding then stay here! If you want to be awakened in the early morning hours to their robot vacuum hitting the walls and doors of the halls …then absolutely stay here ! The rooms DO NOT have refrigerators or microwaves…..(their website leaves that fact out!) They absolutely do not know what hospitality & cleanliness means to their customers . They do know how to efficiently take your money and ignore you. The Pink Castle is for looks only and not accommodations.

This place is a joke, very overpriced with no amenities and very, very small rooms for $400 a night. Doors are slamming all day and all night ~ was told that was the nostalgic part of the hotel ~ really?? Couldn’t even lay down and take a rest let alone sleep at night! Then to top it off they had a band on the roof that was so loud you could hear the people stomping their feet as it shook our room and we were on the 4th floor! We were booked for 8 nights and got out after 2 nights. They told us they were going to give us a $100 credit the night before we left (8pm) but failed to mention we needed to use it in house before we left the next morning!! Wouldn’t let you bring your own cooler to the beach/pool. Room service is $5 plus 22% and the food is expensive with not much to choose from! Expensive in all the restaurants and shops. There was also a conference going on so one of the pools was blocked off for them and the DJ was again, loud!! Parking is $22 a day or $31 for valet! This is not included with your room. Be prepared to be spend allot of money!!

Where do I start with this hotel... I can't fault the restaurant staff nor the pool staff who were excellent with their service but unfortunately that's where the positives end. One of the bar staff was occupied with his mobile phone rather than serving his customers. The food throughout was terrible, we spent our remaining time at Castile restaurant which is part of the Zamor Hotel, 2 minutes down the road which served better quality food and better/affordable drinks with staff who are more engaged with their customers. I would recommend eating/drinking elsewhere if possible. Housekeeping comes too late, ie late afternoon so you'll get a knock at the door when getting ready for the evening which is just annoying. Room cleanliness... I found a used contact lense on the floor but overall not that bad. not ideal but not the worse. The bathroom is quite small even for the average male. The toilet might aswell be in the shower. The actual shower was luke warm at best. We had to ask for additional towels due to housekeeping being so late. Overall condition of the hotel is average with a bit of building work going on. I feel like this hotel is more suited with its aim towards weddings with its new ballroom due to be built rather then guests/tourists. I would give this hotel a 3/4 star review, great for instagram pictures from the beach but beneath the fabulous exterior it really lacks just about everything. The final nail in the coffin is the parking situation. The charges for guests are extortinate but what I find funny is if I dine at the venue its complimentary but for those staying at the venue is costs an additional small fortune, especially as its a very average hotel. My Conclusion, Great for instagram, perfect beach location, great pool staff but would I recommend this hotel to anyone else? No.

My wife and I stayed here for ten nights in the beginning of April. One of the best vacations we had.
The staff were friendly and efficient. The concierge Julian Vasquez was outstanding. Before our arrival he made dinner reservations and arranged private roundtrip transportation between the resort and Tampa Airport with Galaxy Black Car service, which was terrific. After we arrived he put us in touch with Captain Joe, who gave us both daytime and sunset private boat tours that were outstanding.
We stayed in a Bayside Suite with king bed overlooking the front of the hotel. Not much of a view (which we knew in advance) but we loved the room--very quiet, comfortable bed, nice bathroom with two sinks, and a spacious living room. There was a minuscule balcony with two chairs where I briefly sat some mornings to see sunrise. The room was expensive because of all the taxes (two sets of taxes on the room, a daily $40 resort fee, and two additional sets of taxes on that), but we enjoyed staying there and would book it again.
The resort charges $40 a day for parking, so we skipped renting a car and just used Uber, which was very easy and more economical than renting a car and paying a daily parking fee.
The resort is very well maintained and was a pleasure to walk around. The gym is modern and has plenty of workout and cardio equipment. The two pools are beautiful, and the white sand beach stretches beyond the resort for miles. Very nice to take a morning walk or run.
Tevin and Ryan at the pool helped set up our chairs with towels and positioned umbrellas to keep us out of the sun. Jackie came around during the week taking our drink and lunch orders. We felt very pampered.
Every morning we ate breakfast outdoors at Society Table. It was a very pleasant way to start the day.
For snacks, Uncle Andy's had just about everything imaginable.
The gift shops had some nice selections for us to browse, and we bought a few items.
This is definitely a high end resort. We had an amazing time and plan to return.

Upon checking in, the front desk clerk gave me a strange look when I asked if any upgrades were available. She said" no rooms for two nights in a row' when she noticed our reservation was through a third party. ( we had unused credits we put towards the stay) Just be aware you are paying for the name, the location and the beach, NOT the rooms - which are small. The bathroom was the smallest I have ever seen at a resort. When you sit down on the toilet your knees touch the glass shower door.
The service other than the front desk was wonderful. All the bartenders were friendly and the guys setting you up on the beach and pool are above and beyond helpful. Bellman and valet staff were great, although $31/$24 are both pricey options for parking. The resort fee is on TOP of that.
We had a problem with no hot water the first night. It was barely lukewarm. Thee front desk woman said "sorry for the inconvenience, we are working on it:. After an hour when we called again she said " about 30 more minutes" and we realized it was code for " the other guests used all the hot water" so you have to wait.
When we checked out the front desk gentleman asked about our stay and I said it was great except for the hot water situation. He ignored my comment. I mean, why ask how things were unless you care about the answer??

I will start this review off with a positive note and then ease into the issues! The moment we arrived we were pleasantly greeted by the Valet who were a definite bright spot during our entire stay. They took great care of my Aston Martin DBS and even blew it off when they thought it got dust on it from the night before! I felt very comfortable handing them the keys! Checking in was also a pleasant experience! Dinner on Valentines day at the Maritana was absolutely perfect! Stay Vacation going great so far. Next few days, not so great. Morning breakfast with room service I was given a jar of jam with mold inside which really turned me off from the meal. Reported to room service and all I received was "thanks for letting us know". The next day the hotel loses power and internet. No TV. I had to report the TV being out 3 times before it was fixed. On the last day we spent the day on the beach and came back to the room to shower and go out for the evening and we have no hot water. I called the font desk and they say, "that entire half of the building is out right now". I asked for a call to let me know when the hot water would be fixed, no call. We wind up ordering room service and staying in. I would have expected a call from the manager or front desk to apologize for the inconvenience and at a minimum, comp our room service for the evening. We received nothing, no call, no apology. In regards to the quality of the room, I would have expected better for a suite. The bedroom, living room and kitchen were fine, the bathroom was made for one person and 1 person only! Double sink but the entire bathroom in the suite was 2' wide, just enough room for one person to walk from one side to the other. Forget getting ready at the same time. The room didn't have the complimentary bottle waters when we arrived. I had to ask for them the next day. There was 1/4 roll of TP in the bathroom with NO extra, so we had to call to ask for toilet paper. You would also expect that Kleenex would be in the bedroom and living room. Not this suite, only box of Kleenex is in the bathroom next to the toilet. Electrical outlets don't work at the makeup counter so my wife had to find an alternate place to do her hair. It was also a little disappointing that a 4-star hotel did not have a mini-bar in the room. Had the management acknowledged any of these issued and attempted to make any of them right, my review would be different.

Check in is usually at 4 pm. However, if they are not busy you can get in earlier. Additionally, as with most resorts and better hotels, you can check in to the hotel, store your luggage, and begin to use the facilities before your room is ready. With the beach only footsteps away and all of the amenities at your fingertips, a room is truly unnecessary until later anyway!
There are two pools one mostly adults due to depth of pool. The other pool is less than 4ft deep and most young children are in that pool. I hope that helps.
There are more places to choose from in the St. Pete Beach area.
