Golden Host Resort is lauded for its friendly staff and affordable rates, with many travelers finding it to offer good value. The rooms receive mixed reviews; guests appreciate their spaciousness and retro style but note some issues with maintenance. The inviting pool and vibrant tiki bar contribute to the hotel's retro charm, although limited parking and noise are occasional concerns. Cleanliness is a strong suit, with renovations and meticulous grounds mentioned, yet there are remarks about the scarcity of towels. Overall, the resort's amenities, including the popular tiki bar and live events, are a highlight for guests.

I have been in the customer service industry for over 20 years - the General Manager Chet Culmer exceeded our expectations! We live on the east side of Florida and visited Sarasota for the first time. The Goldenhost Resort is the perfect location! Since we are not familiar with the area, we asked Chet for recommendations for dinner and breakfast. Both places were excellent! We are so grateful for his expertise!

Stayed for two nights while visiting the Sarasota area. Room was clean and newly renovated, all new furnishings in a retro theme, floor to ceiling including the wiring. Lots of outlets to recharge electronics, and there's also a light switch on the wall near the tv that lights up a strip light above the tv. Bed was comfortable with nice linens. Towels were a good quality and there was even a towel to use for the pool. In the walk-in shower on the wall there's conditioning shampoo and body wash, and there was plenty of hot water and good water pressure. The room also had a microwave and retro refrigerator that has a refrigerator on the bottom with small freezer on top. In the room photos, you can see the two separate doors on the refrigerator, cute and practical for freezing a small amount of items. I checked out the pool and it was very clean and a comfortable temp. Hotel is in a convenient location to Sarasota attractions and beaches. The only issue I had was the door was sticking because of the humidity as they are exterior doors, but all I had to do was call and someone soon came to help. Staff has great customer service and made me feel welcome.

We visited the Sarasota area for a brief, two day visit and stayed at the recently refreshed Golden Host motel. The location is within a short drive of the Ringling Museum, Jungle Gardens and downtown Sarasota. The rooms are basic, but had everything we expected; small fridge, microwave and a/c and heat that work well (we visited on a few chilly days.) The Bahi Hut tiki bar on the property was a "must" visit for us. We had been there 30 plus years ago but it has recently been refreshed as well, while still maintaining an old-school Tiki bar vibe. They serve up expertly made Mai Tais and other classic Tiki drinks. While it was too cool outside for us to use the pool, it looks like a great place to hang when the sun is out. Overall an enjoyable stay and we would visit again.

We made late plans for Presidents' Day week, and luckily found Golden Host. We stayed for 5 nights and had no complaints! It appears unassuming from the street, but inside the complex, clean, colorful resort. THe signs say rooms recently renovated, and we got a new (room 330), clean, quiet and spacious room for our family of 4. Shower was hot with good water pressure, soft fluffy towels, comfortable beds and linens. Cute retro decor and nice wall art (not typical generic hotel). Microwave/mini frig were very helpful. We had a small balcony overlooking the courtyard/pool. Even when there was music at night at the Tiki Hut on the other side of the property, we did not hear it. Outdoor entrances to individual rooms was what we were looking for during pandemic. The pool was clean and heated and not at all crowded. Plenty of seating around pool. We frequently got takeout (delish options nearby) and ate in the shade at the tables. In morning rush hour, it took us 30 min to Siesta Key and 20 min to Lido Key. Delicious nearby takeout places (10min by car): Mirna's Cuban Cuisine, Perry's BBQ, Stroke's Seafood. Also conveniently located to CVS/Walgreens/Starbucks. Very warm and friendly staff from check in, getting towels, seen around property, and checkout.

From check in to check out, the service was wonderful!! Room was clean and uncluttered. The microwave and refrigerator were great! We had a view of the pool and managed to enjoy some time beside it! Check in was great - we arrived earlier than planned and the owners accommodated an early check in.

We were contacted a few times during the stay asking if anything was needed or if there were issues. The Bahi Tiki Bar is awesome place! The atmosphere was reminiscent of time gone by.

The owners are still remodeling much of this hotel, but we could see the vision and will most definitely return when the work is completed! Do not be dismayed by a first impression!

The only suggestion I have is a broom / swiffer in the room - with this being Florida, sand was brought in on shoes and feet and I would have liked to clean up the mess!

I also left my Tiki cup at the bar and forgot to pick it up before I checked out - the owner offered to bring it to me, but unfortunately I was already at the airport! 😎

HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

They currently have a virtual checkin and out service which is really just texting with one of the employees, which is perfectly fine, I didn't mind that at all. We were driving in from out of state and were going to be arriving at an odd time that the lobby would not be open so they offered to leave our room key under our doormat so that we could just let our selves in our room once we arrived. That plan was great, that way no one was imposed and we could go straight to bed after our long drive. They texted us a room number and a map of exactly where our room would be. When we got there it was easy to find the room, but we quickly realized there was no mat for our key to be left under. So we went up to the lobby to see if it was maybe left there by chance, but no luck. We went back to the room number they had given us and looked around some more to find that at the end of the hall in front of a different room, there was a door mat. We checked under there and found a key.. We assumed an easy mistake was made. Maybe they made a last minute change in our room and forgot to tell us. Oh well, no big deal. We get in our room to find it very warm, the air was not on and as you know Florida is very hot. There also was a huge gap under the door, so there is no door seal to keep out the hot air, it's wide enough for you to fit your hand under so any bugs or small animals can also get in. We shoved towels under the door our entire stay to keep everything out. We were awaken every morning to loud construction noises as they are renovating the building but doing it all themselves so things are not being done properly. They have I think 3 buildings that have rooms, they really needed to close one building while doing their renovations, and then open it when finished and move on to the next building and so forth, as to not disturb their customers stays.
The room itself was nice as it was all new. But nothing special. The staff was very nice but the hotel is more of a motel, and was nothing like I thought it was going to be.

Now, when visiting here please understand that they are still in the process of making this place a home away from home. upon entry I was greeted with a friendly hello, before requesting the specific room I desired the front desk host already knew, and he placed me in the room that I wanted before I could even speak. I like the anticipatory service that they provided how frequent they checked on you and how attentive they were. I will be staying here every time I visit Sarasota, it was a wonderful experience.

I found this place online and chose it because of the positive online reviews. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the reviews matched the vibe of the facility.

This is an older motel, almost like one of the older motor inns where you drive your vehicle up to the door of your room. The designers removed the tubs and installed spacious showers, decorated with modern appointments and furniture. The AC unit is the European style unit, which is very quiet and effective at cooling the room.

There is a nice bar on site, the Tiki Ahi.

Check the place out. It's close to the beaches, airport and downtown.

I would definitely stay again.

Loved my stay and the hotel! I didn’t get the name of the woman who checked me in (my receipt says AMoyer), but she was amazing. She came off as genuinely nice, not just nice because she was being paid to be. She went above and beyond to be accommodating. The room looked and smelled clean/fresh - without any chemical smell or gross air freshener to cover up anything - so shout out to the cleaning team! And the furniture is a cool mix of modern and “vintage.” Close to downtown but quiet. Pool area has lots of seating, including those outdoor couchbed things, and is well-kept. Parking is easy. Just a really cool place to stay overall and I wish I had more time there! (Only suggestion is adding a tea bag to the rooms w the coffee for people who don’t drink coffee :) )

We had a wonderful time in this totally renovated 50's motel conveniently located very close to the Ringling Museums, the Ringling College of Art and Design, and downtown. Our room was huge and had everything we needed for our three-night stay. The BAHI HUT is worth the trip alone because of its historical significance as one of Florida's oldest tiki bars and now beautifully restored. Great drinks and entertainment; also loved the food truck parked outside…

Our room overlooked the large and very clean pool, and we were happy with the extremely hot coffee each morning in the lobby. If you are the type of person who needs the Westin, Hilton, or something similar, you probably won’t like this property and it’s funkiness. We have travelled the world and always enjoy experiencing something authentic. We will absolutely return to this property next winter and for longer than three nights.

The Golden Host Resort is a lovely property. It is not overlooking the ocean or the beach. They do have a pool which is very nice and I believe some rooms have balconies that overlook the pool. We enjoyed our stay there very much. The owner is very accommodating and I would definitely give them a call to address your questions or concerns. Their location is also very good.
