We liked the place staff was all very friendly some could not speak English, but it was ok. The bed was comfortable the bad thing was the pull out sofa, we had to ask for pillows and blankets. We was able to get sheets and a blanket but they said the 3 pillows on the king bed would have to share. I thought that was weird. They gave us 2 towels and only 1 wash cloth for 4 people we had to ask for more. Make sure you wear shower shoes because the floor in the entire room was dirty my son walked from the bathroom to the bed and his feet were black. But that stuff can be fixed. The pool closes at 7 so you couldn't do an evening swim. I still give them a 5 star because we all still had a blast. I will be back next year.

All of the staff bent over backwards, during a difficult time, to provide the great experience for me. It would not be possible to single out an individual, but the room staff was most helpful in keeping me fresh towels, etc. They were very sweet.

The bed , sheets, pillows, towels, bedspread, etc. were exceptionally comfortable. Your housekeepers graciously ( upon request) offered us clean towels, toiletries, coffee and water cups when we approached them at their housekeeping carts daily. We Never lacked anything. The pool area was really beautiful and VERY clean. The coffee at the front desk was ALWAYS fresh and delicious. Wish you had decaf there as well… although the housekeeping attendants did carry them on their carts…I especially enjoyed the manager! She is such a delightful person… Always had a smile and had a family type ambiance about her that was most welcoming.
If something could be done about the traffic at the entrance…. That would be Awesome! Amen!

Golden Host is safe and comfortable, just a few minutes from the airport and just a few minutes from the downtown dining and arts scene of Sarasota.
We discovered it last year and just booked our fourth stay. It's a home away from home. If your home requires a vintage tiki bar. (Ours does.)
Golden Host is on Tamiami Trail, but the fence and the savannah of palms combine make it secluded and peaceful. And being right on Tamiami means we can get pretty much everywhere fast and easy.
The rooms are mid-century retro and clean as a whistle. We really appreciate not having carpeted floors in a hotel because carpet is gross.
The entire property is tremendously cool, but it's not so cool you feel pressure to be cool yourself.
The staff is wonderfully accomodating, and Carmen runs things with efficiency and warmth. Need an extra towel, and they'll be on it in a flash.
No breakfast on-site, but there are grocery stores nearby and good sized refrigerators in every room.
Book direct to get the best price and that free cocktail to take the edge off your travel day.
We also love that we can text questions or feedback and get a fast response.
It really seems like Golden Host is focused on making everything as easy as possible for your stay in Sarasota.
There's even a taco truck regularly doing business in the parking lot. So even if your beach plans are foiled by red tide, you could do your whole vacation right at the hotel and do just fine. Tacos, tiki bar, pool and swaying palms. What else do you need?

Quite great absence Super clean hotel! Easy checkin/checkout front desk was very easy to communicate with comfortable bed microwave refrigerator, clean as a bar on the property with great DJ and karaoke. Also, the balconies are very nice.

This was a nicely refreshed taste of Florida from what felt like the 1960's. The room was very clean, everything looked like it had been freshly painted and we loved the retro look of the in room microwave and fridge. The pool area was really nice and the old style Tiki bar on premises was a hoot. The people working the desk and other areas were extremely helpful and accommodating. Very close to downtown and things like the Ringling museum.

This place tries to put lipstick on a pig. They practice bait and switch tactics charging a premium and switching you a lower tier room. The room was dirty, smelled of mold and didn't have towels or wash cloths.

Saw a review of the oldest Tiki bar in Florida and knew we would have to try it. Being 3 hours away from home we also knew it had to be an overnighter. Since it had a resort attached we figured, why not. Arrived on a rainy and chilly Thursday. Older property but recently remodeled. Was greeted by a lovely young man, didn't get his name and he got us our keys, we unloaded our things on our second floor room only to discover the lights were not working. Went back to the lobby, got us the keys to the room underneath, lights also out. Back again for the 3rd room, bingo. All the lights were working. Never had any issues with switching from the front desk and he made sure we were finally in a well lit room. The room was spacious and I loved the retro mini fridge and microwave. Also had a little kitchenette with a sink and cabinets. Wish we were staying more than one night so we could get some more use out of it. Our room faced the courtyard and pool and it looked very inviting, was told it was temp controlled so it should be comfortable. Unfortunately they were pressure washing the pool area so there really wasn't a chance to use it. It did look great the next morning though. Just our luck to book on a maintenance day. Hope to be able to go back when everything is accessible. After settling in we headed over to the tiki bar , the reason we came in the first place. Started off with the the signature drink and hubby got the sneaky tiki. Both were very good. Also tried the rum punch and that was also delicious. We met a new friend at the bar and he said to try Megan's special drink. Husband fell in love with it and named it the Megan mind blaster. 😆 Then we were told that there would be a taco truck and karaoke that night. Needless to say we were there for a few more hours singing and cocktailing. Glad we had a room right across the parking lot. We had a great time and hope to be able to do it again soon.

Perhaps we had the worst room in the resort (#204) but based upon our experience we don’t see how this is no. 7 of 57 hotels. As soon as we checked in the wife went to use the bathroom. The barn style door was off the track and could not be closed. I could not lift it onto the track, I went to the office and the young lady who had checked us in said she would send maintenace. I wanted to ensure I would not be charged for the door from the $100 Security Deposit I had to pay. An hour later I returned to the office to find a new rep who said maintenance had gone home but she would find someone. No one showed up and so much for the showers we wanted before dinner and the concert we had tickets for (the whole purpose of our trip). In addition, room 204 has no closet, no rod, no clothing hooks to hang up the dress and clothes we had brought for the concert. There are also no Handicapped Parking Spaces even though there are Handicapped Accesible Rooms including 204. Location was ideal for an event at The Van Wezel but the room did not live up to expectations and other Trip Advisor reviews. We won’t return. I left a tip for the maid but she should have noted the broken door. A rod could easily be installed in the cubby behind the shower that just has a photo hanging in it.

The name of the woman working the front desk on evening of 8/5/2023 escapes me but she was so kind and wonderful and I wanted to make sure someone knew. She took a moment to show me the rooms available and when we decided to stay on the second floor she ran up to check the room and make sure it was perfect. She had a very happy personality and made us feel so welcome. The room itself was great, in the event that we are up that way and come back again she will definitely be a big reason why.

Sorry I never swam
The Golden Host Resort is a lovely property. It is not overlooking the ocean or the beach. They do have a pool which is very nice and I believe some rooms have balconies that overlook the pool. We enjoyed our stay there very much. The owner is very accommodating and I would definitely give them a call to address your questions or concerns. Their location is also very good.
