The Hyatt Regency Sarasota garners mixed reactions, with guests enamored by its prime location close to downtown, offering scenic vistas and easy access to local attractions. While the pool and marina views are highlights for many, some guests suggest that the rooms and amenities could benefit from modernization, despite being clean. Service at the hotel generally receives accolades for staff responsiveness, yet some visitors have encountered sporadic issues. Furthermore, the hotel's value is questioned by travelers who point out high additional costs for parking and resort features.

Beautiful hotel, perfectly located in walking distance to Downtown and the Marina area. The hotel also offers a shuttle if you don't care to walk.
Now, the negative. Early in our week one of our party was injured and suffered a puncture wound by the pool on some landscaping edging. The edging was a semi circle, one side was curved and sloped into the soil while the other side was just cut, leaving a sharp metal edge right where the sidewalk meets the soil. Another guest gave us a towel to wrap the foot and hold back the blood and I ran inside for assistance. On scene the staff was very attentive, asking if we needed to go to the hospital and supplying us with first aid and cleaning the area of a substantial amount of blood. They took all our info, and said if we needed anything else to let them know. The sharp edge was bent back with a pliers, which I thought was a temporary move till they properly repaired it. The week went on. The dangerous edging was never taken out and replaced. While other guests later in the week who witnessed the incident asked us how we were doing, not once did anybody from the hotel reach out to us. Upon checkout I registered my dissatisfaction and the clerk took my name saying someone would get in touch with me. I did receive a call from an assistant manager who apologized and offered to (and did) refund the resort fee from our bill. I explained to her that I hadn't asked for money and all we had wanted was some follow up and that the dangerous situation had been repaired. Not doing so was very unprofessional and the antithesis of how someone in the hospitality business should act. I'm torn on recommending this hotel. As I said it is a beautiful facility in a perfect location but there are a lot of options and this one incident is enough to keep me away.

We had a GREAT time here. The hotel, rooms, staff, food, and everything else was excellent. We had a room (room 405) with a balcony on the fourth floor which had a gorgeous view of the marina and beautiful pool. There was a prom happening one of the nights we were there and I was anxious about potential noise/parties that night. I didn’t hear a single thing our entire stay! We ate a breakfast and dinner at the Currents restaurant; the food was delicious and I felt reasonably priced. The resort fee includes use of bikes, kayaks, paddle boats, and paddle boards. The location is within minutes of Selby Gardens, Ringling Museum, downtown Sarasota, St. Armands Cir, Lido Beach, the Amish restaurants, etc. We can’t wait to go back!

Stayed a week here, including over a weekend.

Ok Hyatt: rooms are spacious, clean and well equipped.

Something that could be improved: the TV in the room is on a 4-legged stand that does not allow it to be swiveled for better viewing angle if one is sitting at the desk (doing work) or sitting in the room chair. Setup for viewing from the bed.

The pictures of 'views' from various rooms on the hotel website are *outdated*. They were clearly taken before construction of adjacent hotels & buildings, which means the views from many rooms instead of having clear open views, are now looking at another building or somewhat obstructed. Hyatt should update the pictures on its website to show accurate views from rooms.

The onsite restaurant/bar is ok. Food is average but a bit pricey, even by hotel standards. Probably due to fact that there literally is no other food options within walking distance of the hotel.

Warning/tip: there are 3 elevator banks, but, the 3rd elevator bank is on the other side of the entrance that is slightly obscured by a pillar. You can be waiting for an elevator and the controls show an elevator has arrived, but if you're standing in front of the 2 elevator banks, you'll be wondering why neither elevator has opened.

Since I was here for onsite business meetings/conference, had to do work(Internet required). The Internet speed here is decent but, over several days, it would drop periodically for a few minutes and then recover. Happened several times over a week.

This is an 'ok' hotel, but definitely not up to the Hyatt brand standard or quality.

"Before booking this hotel for a vacation, I was perplexed by the extreme differences in the reviews -- so many 5s, and so many poor ratings and written evaluations. After staying at the hotel, my conclusion is that some guests have been fortunate to stay in a recently rennovated room, while others (like my wife and I) have not. There is no way at booking to know if you will receive a refreshed room or a dated old room.

Here's a copy of what I shared with Hyatt in response to the survey they sent to me:
Included in reservation was a request for a quiet room location — instead, assigned room was between the two elevators, on the front/street side of hotel, directly above entrance. I immediately went back to front desk to see if an alternate room could be assigned but was told “no…hotel is sold out.” On the first morning, at 7:00 a.m. a crane began operating outside the room windows!

On Tuesday evening, I called twice for fresh bathroom towels (at 8:45 pm and 9;50 pm). Each time I was told someone would be right up with them, but none came. At 10:20 pm, I walked down to the front desk and requested the towels. The person at the front desk went in the back and brought me two hand towels, and said he would have someone bring bath towels up. Eventually they arrived.

Pool area doesn’t have enough lounge chairs for guests, and many of the lounge chairs (blue) were inferior. No service people checking on guests around pool (e.g. drinks or food). My wife was shocked when she learned the hotel charges guests a $25 per day “resort fee!” Since Hyatt points had been used for the stay, thankfully, we didn’t incur this fee. But honestly, it was the only regrettable Hyatt point redemption in 33 years of membership (including many years as a Diamond).

Bathroom was very small and old school. Only two drawers for clothes to be unpacked into.

On the plus side, the absence of service we experienced from the start, caused us to dine out for every meal and forgo the pool for the nearby beaches. We discovered and had great meals with outstanding service in Sarasota…and traveled to three spectacular beaches.

We had never been to Sarasota before, but decided to give it a try because of past extremely positive Hyatt experiences. The hotel fell well short of expectations, but Sarasota became a place we’d like to revisit (but we’ll stay somewhere else)."

Restaurants we dined at: Selva, 1592, Mediterraneo, Bijou Garden Cafe. Excellent service and great food at all four.

I would not stay here again unless Hyatt could reassure me they addressed how housekeeping services manages the process of cleaning guest rooms and the guest room doors. I was rudely awakened at 09:00am when housekeeping, while cleaning the room above mine, kept going in and out of the room but letting the door slam against the lock apparatus each and every time - sending reverberations through out the structure but mostly to my room below .. I could not return, sorry, and I am an EXPLORIST Member of your Hotel family !!

We began with wine. I enjoyed my Marlborough NZ sauvignon blanc but did not really love the price, $12 for the 6 oz glass. (no single glasses were under $11 ). My friend also liked her pinot grigio.
However, my salad was delicious and a huge bargain at $10. I chose to have it topped by salmon at additional $8. The enormous salad was warm brussels sprouts, kinua, shaved parmesan, feta, cherry tomatoes and a vinaigrette dressing. I ate a lot of it and took home at least half. It was accompanied by a round loaf of a tasty cheese bread.
My friend enjoyed her pork chop, which was large enough that she took some home. it was accompanied by good sides including some tomatoes that she found particularly good. When she mentioned that to our server, the server offered to bring her some more, and did so.
In spite of dining early and the fact that the restaurant was not busy, it took a long time for our meals to be served. They apologized but did not give a reason. Good thing we had the wine and bread to occupy us while waiting.
This hotel is very convenient to the Van Wezel and we would certainly go back for dinner after another matinee. The room is attractive and we were able to have a table next to the window, with a view of tropical greenery and a bit of the waterfront.

We felt like 4th rate citizens. It's absolutely evident that the staff at Sarasota Hyatt Regency cater to the group events and $$$ over rooms booked by 3rd party websites (HomeAway). We were shown photos of top quality rooms with balconies overlooking the pool and the Sarasota Bay (gorgeous sunsets!) However, we were placed in a room with no functioning windows, no balcony, behind a construction entrance and taxi stand. It felt like a prison.

A few interactions with the staff told us just how little they cared. For example our room service needed new sheets (they were stained upon our check in) and we noticed this the following morning. We had asked the hotel housekeeper to ensure these were exchanged the following day as we left the hotel around 10am. When we arrived back in the afternoon, the trash was still in the cans, and sheets were wadded up at the foot of the bed along with the blankets/ pillow cases. It appeared someone entered to switch out the bedding but instead left a pile on the floor.

We spoke to the housekeeping manager and they said they would take care of it. On our way out to visit family in the afternoon the service still had not visited the room. We reminded the front desk of the issue and they ensured they were on top of it. We arrived back at 9pm from Venice and a visit with family. The room was not visited. The sheets layed on the ground just as before. Now, this time we were frustrated with the promise to fix the issue and the absolute failure to do so. Our son was exhausted and just decided to lay down on the couchette. We called to housekeeping using the button on the phone, no response. We called the front desk and they assured us it was top priority. 15 mins, 30, then 60 minutes passed...Still nothing. We called back down to the front desk who transferred us to the manager of housekeeping. This individual argued every word we said and even went so far as to correct our terminology and explained to us like children how we were not allowed to call the housekeeping dept directly despite our having done so over an hour earlier. They ultimately promised to come by to take care of the issue.

Another 20 minutes passed with no knock, no sheets, no care in the world. We are about as calm and patient of people as one could hope to encounter. However my wife was at wits end with the situation and decided to visit the front desk in person after now 90 minutes since our call without service (5 attempts and request for service...nada.

My wife and were very excited to stay at this Hotel to celebrate our 17th Wedding Anniversary. With that being said we were very disappointed with what we got for the money we spent. It all started at check-in , in which the person at the front desk barely greeted us was not enthusiastic at all and basically said here is your key and handed us a piece of paper that told us what was open and or closed due to Covid-19 restrictions. Once we got to the room we very quickly accessed the cleanliness of it and was disappointed, there was hair on the floor next to the bath tub and on the wall next to the bathroom. The HVAC vents were very dirty and looked like they had not been cleaned for a long time. The general look of the room and furnishings were just ok, but when we went to the balcony we did love the view of our room on the 8th floor. We noticed the first morning that the mini fridge in the room wasn't working so we called down to the front desk to let them no they quickly sent someone up and they determined it wasn't working and they said they would replace it for us. We stayed there 3 nights and they did not replace the mini fridge during our stay so we were unable to use that for our stay which was annoying to say the least we ended up doing multiple trips to the ice machine every few hours to keep out things cold. When it comes to the Hotel amenities we felt like we did not get our moneys worth, resort fees were 25.00 a day and everything was limited due to Covid restrictions, maybe a discounted resort fee would have been nice? Not only do you have to pay the resort fee but they charge 15.00 per day for parking which I though was crazy as I have never had to pay for parking at a hotel I was staying at! If we visit Sarasota again we will not be staying at this hotel it not even close to being worth the money, the view was the only positive thing about this hotel for us.

We came down for the night to celebrate a birthday and found a very average experience. The hotel was not simple to enter with luggage from the parking area and when we did find the check in counter we received a perfunctory welcome. Not much enthusiasm generally from staff in the hotel or pool area. In fact, you must sign out pool towels and be sure to return them so you are not charged. That’s if you can find a free pool lounger since they are held by guests for the day it seems. The pool is lovely and there is a nice hot tub tucked behind a waterfall. The landscaping was nice too. The hotel room itself was a bit dated.

Stayed on Hyatt CC free nights and with Chase CC points (15,000/night). Because we were Hyatt Discoverist members, we received comped resort fee, free parking, and a complimentary upgrade when we asked for a balcony room. The service (especially at the front desk) really was excellent. We needed a crib and rollaway and they were both waiting in our room upon arriving. The location was pretty cool over the marina, but I didn't give 5 stars because it was a little further to downtown and the keys than some other downtown hotels. There was also some construction in the area, but it wasn't loud, just a little unsightly. They have a shuttle to St. Armand's Circle but it was not running due to Covid. There also wasn't housekeeping but they were more than happy to bring up towels and bath amenities. Staying in a hotel is a sadder experience with Covid because of the distancing, reduced amenities, closed venues (the bar had limited hours), but that's going to be the case at any hotel. The pool is great and the pool bartenders were great, but the hot tub was undergoing maintenance. The only other reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the bathroom is a little dated and our sink was a little stopped up. They could really use a bathroom reno. The beds were amazing though and even sleeping in a room with a 1.5 and 3 year old, I was extremely comfortable and slept great!
