The Marriott Tampa Westshore has garnered mixed reviews, with many guests appreciating the clean, comfortable rooms, despite some noting maintenance and housekeeping issues. While the hotel's range of amenities, including the remodeled rooms and pool bar, receive compliments, the value proposition is often questioned as guests report overcharging and unmet expectations for the price. The bustling atmosphere, influenced by events, can lead to noisy conditions, yet the hotel's cleanliness and the staff's friendly service are highlights that many travelers commend.

Great location and plenty of (free) parking. Staff is incredible. Wonderful, welcoming and really want you to have a great stay. The lobby and restaurants look fantastic. The shuttle will take you within a 2 mile radius and to the airport for free.

I was disappointed in two areas of the hotel. The Executive Lounge is in badly need of an upgrade - both in furnishings and food. Staff was nice, but very cramped and food was very unappetizing. Rooms are nice size with upgraded bedding, but the carpet, wallpaper and the furnishings look like they need to be refreshed. Consider the price you pay for brand Marriott, I would expect this is something that is done on a consistent basis.

Overall, a good choice. The people really do make a difference at this property.

On behalf of the Marriott Tampa Westshore staff, I would like to thank you for choosing to stay with us on your recent trip to Tampa. Also, I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. We work very hard to accommodate every request and exceed our guest’s expectations. We also pride ourselves on providing our guest the true spirit of Marriott’s Hospitality. I apologize that you were disappointed in our Concierge Lounge. We are in the process of a new look and I will definitely address the unappetizing food with my Chef. Once again, thank you for choosing to stay with us and I hope we have the pleasure of welcoming you back again in the future. Kindest Regards,

Stay Report - 9/14 to 9/15

Location: The hotel is located on Westshore Blvd. about two miles south of TPA Airport.  It's in a somewhat seedy area (there's a strip club and a dubious looking Ramada across the street) but you're also near to some good restaurants (including the legendary Charley's Steakhouse) and the Westshore Plaza Mall.  It's near enough to I-275 that you can get around the area really easily too.

Hotel: The hotel is an older style Marriott property which is a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you enjoy nostalgia.  There is a lot to the good though: a combination indoor/outdoor pool that's currently open, a large parking lot with free parking, bar and restaurant in the lobby (along with a lot of meeting space) and an executive lounge that's currently open.  The hallways and common areas do feel old (look for the old Marriott logo on each room door for example).  I'd be lying if I said the hotel couldn't use a refresh.

Check In: Definitely left me with a good impression.  Two friendly agents who thanked me for being Titanium, preemptively asked if I wanted a 4 PM checkout and were very helpful explaining the hotel features to me.

Room: Nicely renovated I was happy to find.  Large InterneTV, renovated bathroom with excellent shower, outlets near the bed and good Wifi.  There were no issues with sound either though the AC had a little trouble keeping the room cool.

Lounge: Currently open for breakfast from 6:30 AM to 9:30 AM.  They had scrambled eggs, ham, bagels, cereal, fruit and yogurt.  The attendant working there was really friendly and helpful.

Overall a good choice for Tampa.  I'd gladly be back.

You would think that a Marriott property would not have to worry about cold weather in Tampa! When I arrived at midnight, I went to my room and it was very cold. The furnace must not work because I could never get my room to warm and the conference room I met in also required a space heater just to make the conditions tolerable. I set my thermostat as high as 90° but it never really warmed up and there were no extra blankets. Is it possible that this hotel only has air-conditioning and not heat? The concierge lounge on the 14th floor is convenient but the room I stayed in on the second floor was very small. The pool area is very nice with both indoor and outdoor swimming. I worked in my room in the morning and left the do not disturb sign on. I removed the do not disturb sign at noon. No one came to make up my room in the afternoon or evening and so when I returned the room was as I left it.

Stayed here for two nights due to medical procedures for my wife’s medical appts @ Moffitt. Also booked room for my mom to help out with our 4 year old. The street and vehicle noise from 275 and westshore was unbelievable on the 9th floor. Could here conversations from the interior of rooms across the hall. 12:15am banging on door and loud guests next door. Could care less even though signs posted for “quiet time” starting @10pm. Don’t get rooms within 5 rooms of elevator at least. You will hear it all night. Sure staff was friendly they even told my mom to not take a room because it was by the elevator and could get noisy.
Her room key stopped working which necessitated a trip to get another. Guest across from us had a similar issue I assume because I was able to hear his frustration and attempts to gain entry to his room around midnight. Totally unexpected and the wife is gold elite. Clearly it works for some. Won’t be at this property again.

The Marriott web site says the restaurant is open for breakfast. It isn’t. The web site says the pool is heated. It isn’t and hasn’t been for quite some time. The front desk clerk acted like she didn’t know however the heater hasn’t worked during my last 3 stays spread out over one year.

The cleaning, especially room 1037, really was not cleaned to any standard. I’m sure the filter where the AC was coming out hadn’t been cleaned or changed in years. I couldn’t even scrap the grime off the louvers. No wall plate where the cable was coming in and a big spider web on the inside of the window.

I wanted a room with a balcony. I used 5 of my Suite Awards to get this room. At checkout I voiced my disappointment with the no breakfast, no heated pool, never any towels for the pool and the condition of my room. The front desk clerk immediately offered my Suite Night Awards back. I think that was a good decision and I’m glad he had the authority to do so. I’ve been a Marriott Rewards member for more than 25 years and I think of all the Marriotts I’ve stayed, I’ve only wrote 2 not so nice reviews. Marriott Corporate needs to take a look at this place. The pool needed to be cleaned as well but since it was ice cold I guess the maintenance people didn’t bother.

Thank you for taking time to share your recent experience with us. We pride ourselves on providing excellent service and maintaining clean and comfortable space for all our guests. Please know that we are addressing your very serious cleanliness concerns as this is not at all acceptable of the high standards we hold for ourselves. There is no excuse and improvements will be made. The timing could not have been worse too as unfortunately our new pool heater (which has not experienced any issues since being installed at the beginning of last year) is currently being worked on this week-it is a priority to have it up and running shortly. While we can only sincerely apologize for our shortcoming during your recent stay please know that we appreciate your feedback and opportunity to do better.

We travel a lot and my girlfriend is a platinum member and I am a gold member. We are used to much better service and overall conditions of Marriotts in this class. First of all the good. A nice indoor outdoor pool. Adequate parking. And now for the bad. After my first night there I noticed that my sheets had blood stains on them. Because of the lateness of the night in the delay in getting the sheets turned over I decided to wait until the next day to have them changed. In the meantime, my child in the other room had an accident on his sheets. I notified the front desk. The next day we got back later in the afternoon and found out the rooms had not been changed or cleaned at all.The front desk manager apologized for this. She gave me $100 off of each room for that night. Next, the walls were so thin that a group of teenagers about seven rooms down we’re making noise and I could hear him very distinctly in my room. On the road side, noise was transmitted through the walls and windows as if there were no soundproofing. Needless to say, I did not have a sound sleep while I was there. We also had access to the concierge level. This would be rated as only average since the year before we stayed at the Tampa grand and there was no comparison of the concierge/club grand level. Lastly, breakfast was mediocre at best. Service at the restaurant for breakfast was very lacking. Many times we had to hunt down a service personnel just to get a cup of coffee.Marriott can do much better than this.

We had a stay and play tournament at this hotel. We had to stay there or we were disqualified from the tournament. The rooms were very tiny. There is no free breakfast, restaurant costs $20 for buffet. I brought a toaster and our team was using it to let the kids eat. Manager said I can't have you out here with your toaster. After some back and forth he gave us a meeting room to use it in. The next day our team was swimming and we ordered pizza. They told us we weren't permitted to have outside food at the pool. I am so disappointed in what hotels have become. We spent 4 days there and the only thing they want is your money.

The pool area is very nice and a great place to hang out. The workout room is small but has tons of equipment. I like to focus on amenities that hotels have that make your stay easier and more comfortable, this place doesn't have those.

Here are a few pros and cons:

Pros:

The service during my stay was professional and courteous. I found almost everyone I interacted with was friendly.

The swimming pool. Loved the indoor/outdoor layout. Plus is heated which is rare to see.

I was recognized as a Platinum member and was upgraded to an executive larger guest corner room with a terrace. Room was great overall, the view was nice, shower had good pressure, bed was very comfy.

The Internet. This Marriott offers three different Wifi connections, there is a free guest wifi, an enhanced wifi for elite members, and an upgraded wifi for gold + elite members. The gold wifi worked really well, it normally crashes mes with a fee of about $17, so it was a nice perk for the higher tier elite members.

The location. Great spot for restaurants and shopping.

The Shuttle service. Is not just for the airport, let the front desk know where and when and they will arrange your transportation, pick up is also available. Transport must be within two miles.

Cons:

Like other reviewers mentioned, the hotel is on the older side. They still have the old school key card swipe locks, carpets, etc. It’s certainly dated.

The enhanced Room was nice but not quite as large as I expected. Room could’ve been clean a little better, I found spider webs on the window corners, and the fridge was on the dusty side.

Wasn’t impressed with the blue bistro. We got a courtesy voucher for continental breakfast and went down to try it out. It wasn’t the most inviting place, I found the service to be slow in spite of there being just a handful of guests.
The breakfast was just a bowl of fruit and toast, so limit your expectations.

All in all it was a pleasant stay. The Pros outweigh the cons, and the great service puts them over the top. Would stay here again.

This is the second time we gave this hotel a try. So glad we did. The front desk was very prompt, professional, and attentive to our needs before we could even ask. The room was very clean and spacious. Housekeeping was very quick with our extra blankets request. Breakfast was fresh and hot. Also transportation to and from the airport was quick to drop off and pick up at 5am in the morning! Overall fantastic stay- would defiantly recommend!

My wife and I stayed at this Marriott for the Taylor Swift concert.

Good:
We were pleased to be able to check in early. Front desk staff was nice and you can tell they care. They setup a Taylor Swift photo wall in the lobby, nice touch. The hotel has been renovated. The lobby etc are all fine. In the rooms, the furniture, flooring, bathroom vanity and shower are all new. The beds are great and we slept well. The bar tender in the afternoon was super nice and welcoming.

Feedback:
You can tell the renovation was done on the cheap. For example, the thermostats in the rooms are old and the buttons are difficult to use. The commodes are very large and definitely the original from the 80’s. The bathroom vanity backlighting must have been done incorrectly, it’s very dim and doesn’t look right. The entry doors to the rooms are old and they still use old magnetic card readers - I haven’t seen one of those in 15 years. They painted over the doors to the pool etc and it just looks awful. The elevator flooring looks gross and has gaps in the corners. Most Marriott renovations are high quality, this one is off putting.

The cleaning staff were speaking Spanish in our hallway for an hour on the first afternoon and then the next morning at 10a they were out talking again. I recommend they stop talking in the hallway as it makes it impossible to nap, or at least whisper if they need to communicate.
