The Bilmar Beach Resort is celebrated for its friendly staff and the thoughtful amenities provided, such as beach gear and family photography, which guests find enhance their stay. Although many travelers commend the resort for its cleanliness and prime beachfront location, there are mixed feelings about the value due to high resort fees.
The comfortable rooms with beautiful views are a highlight, yet some reviewers point out the need for modernization and improved soundproofing. The lively atmosphere, with evening band music, adds to the charm, though it contributes to the noise level for some.

My bf and I stayed at the Bilmar on Treasure Island on May 20 and 21st of 2024, before the hurricane activity. It was a pleasant stay. Plenty of places to eat within walking distance. We ate at the VIP Mexican across the street for lunch, recommended by the front desk. It was okay, not the greatest, and very crowded/noisy with a bar inside. Ricky T's was right next door, a very nice casual place to eat in an open covered area. Good food at a reasonable price and band music was pleasant in the evenings. Everything shuts down early evening to avoid noise disturbance. Sloppy Joe's was/is part of the Bilmar, an easy place to grab a breakfast, lunch or dinner, where you can sit at picnic tables outside or inside, along with a nice bar area with tv. Food there is good and priced well. Beach towels are free to use in the resort fee, along with two beach chairs. It is quite a stroll to the beach, so gather everything you want for the trip. The room we had was clean and had been updated with sliding bath door, in room safe. Cleaned daily. They had free cookies in the lobby during the day that went fast. We didn't use the pool, but there is a shower for rinsing off. Cabana's/umbrellas on the beach for rent, and I highly suggest if you come in the summer months either bring your own or plan to rent because it is hot! Parking is tight, so if you find a place, plan to keep it if in busy season. There is a free shuttle that will carry you up and down the island for free, just tip the driver. We loved it. No worries if you wanted a drink somewhere.

Tracy, thank you for the great review and valuable feedback for all to use. We are up and running after a big hit from hurricane Heline. Our lobby and first floor rooms areas are still being rebuilt but have 2nd floor and above all set for spring break and our front desk is located in Sloppy Joe's lobby which has been fun and convenient to be able to grab a bite & beverage just after checking in. We hope you can come back soon.

So comfortable all around. The bars were great and check in was so easy. Pools felt great, the beach towels and chairs came in handy. The walk to the beach is not bad at all. Rooms are quiet, very rarely did we hear people walking by, and never the neighbors. The had a QR code for a company doing sunset pictures - Mike was awesome, did a great job and finished editing while we went to dinner. 10/10 would recommend, either for family trips or couples getaway.

We were in the tower with the balcony facing the gulf which was a great view. The room was overall clean and had a small kitchenette which was nice. We like the location and the hotel provided bicycles, beach towels, chairs, and paddle boards. The two things I will say are the elevators need a good cleaning they are very dirty and gross and that the shower had horrible water pressure.

I just returned from a 5 night stay at the Bilmar, and as a first time guest I was not impressed. Check in is advertised at 4:00 pm, yet we were not able to check in our room until 5:15 pm. Nothing was offered to us for this inconvenience. We had a pool side studio, yet we faced a stairway on the front and the backside of the Thunderbird hotel on the back. The pool that was nearest to our room was crystal clear yet they would not let anyone use it. Instead they pushed all the guests to the much smaller pool at the opposite end of the hotel. It was constantly completely packed, and you could never find a lounger around the pool no matter how early you got up to get one. On the last day of our stay, the television went off at 11:30 am and would not come back on. I tried to use the phone in the room to call the front desk, but it did not work. After reaching them on my cell phone they said that they would send a maintenance man right up. As they had not shown up 5 hours later, I called again. This time they showed right up. Unfortunately the Maintenance man could not get it working and he had his boss come take a look at it. It was an issue with Spectrum, and he said that they would be out to fix it within an hour. Spectrum never showed up. Needless to say we were not happy. The on duty Manager refunded our $35 amenities fee. I am really looking for a hotel to replace my beloved Thunderbird hotel until it is rebuilt. I am not sure that this one will fit the bill.
There were also issues with their on site bar and restaurant, Sloppy Joes, and I will post my review under their area

We sincerely regret your recent experience with us did not meet your expectations. As we recover from the devastation caused by back to back hurricanes we are facing challenges not normally part of the daily operations. Our poolside designation for your room is to indicate it is not one of the beachfront accommodations that comprise 90% of our room views. The north pool near your room had just had the chemicals added and heater installed, and we choose to ensure a full week of stable readings before opening it up to our valued guests. It took two weeks for the south pool. I also apologize for your TV issue. I am disappointed if anyone indicated the signal provider would show within the hour as it usually takes more than a day for service calls. We should have better informed you. We miss our neighboring hotel and look forward to their return. May 1st is the target to have all areas fully restored. This has been a long and trying journey but Treasure Island will come back strong and hope you will make us a part of your Treasure Island future.

We stayed 2 nights, November 1,2. (Not the busy season) Our room was clean, didn’t have any funky smells like our last hotel, and we had a patio with ocean view. The room has a refrigerator, range top, microwave, full sized coffee maker, dishes, and sink. Don’t come to this area if you want quiet. The whole area is about music and other activities. We sat on our patio and listened to the live music coming from Sloopy Joe’s restaurant. Went across the street and listened to more live music at Ricky T’s. It was awesome. We definitely enjoyed our stay.

Thank you for choosing the Bilmar for your Treasure Island getaway and for the great rating and comments. We do enjoy the music scene on the Island but all resort venues go quiet at 10pm. Our neighbors have some later entertainment convenient to the property but we work with them to keep the sound level down after hours. We hope you can come back soon.

This was our first time staying at the Bilmar. We booked our room in July of 2023 in preparation for our visit for spring break in March of 2024. About 2 days before our arrival I received an email from the hotel saying that my room had to be switched because of overbooking and that I would be in one room for two nights and then move to a different room for the remainder of my stay. My wife and I were initially upset about this and the inconvenience that it may cause as well as not being able to get the beachfront room that we had initially reserved. However after talking with the assistant manager Kim several times on the phone and then meeting her in person upon our arrival she was able to get everything resolved and make the situation right. We did have to move our room after our first two nights however it was quick and easy and we ultimately got the room that we originally booked. For the inconvenience Kim was able to provide us a discount on the room and also some gift certificates to the Sloppy Joe's Restaurant and Waves Bar. I truly believe that what really defines a company is how good they respond to tough and difficult situations. They can either do nothing about it or make the situation right keeping the customer's best interest in mind. Kim and her staff did just that. We had an awesome time at the resort and enjoyed all of its amenities. We will definitely be considering returning for our next spring break. The entire front desk staff was friendly, polite and courteous, especially Heather who we dealt with on more than one occasion. Thanks for allowing us to have an awesome time at your resort!

The Bilmar totally exceed our expectations! Friends of ours were staying with family at the hotel next door and we wanted to be close to them. From the moment we checked in we were greeted with friendly employees throughout our stay! (I wish I could remember names). Our room was perfect for us with amazing views from our balcony! The pool area was very clean and the water a perfect temperature. The drinks from Sloppy Joes tasted amazing sitting by the pool. The beach was never packed and they were always dragging the sand so it was so soft and easy to walk on. There is also a great paved walking trail that is about 2 miles long. It was so nice taking early morning walks hearing the ocean in the distance. The location of the Bilmar was also perfect! Walgreens was right across the street and Publix was on the next corner. There was also many restaurants/bar areas that were all in walking distance. Also ever Friday they have a farmers market and craft sale right behind the Walgreens. It was a perfect vacation! We can't wait to return! ❤️

Great resort, would recommend getting a premium beach front room 2nd or 3rd floor. Sloppy Joes restaurant good for breakfast and dinner, right on the beach and also close to St Johns Pass. Very clean, good room service and friendly staff. Two swimming pools with towel service, coffee in the lobby and a $5 arrival gift token to use ion the restaurant. Winds bar would be my only criticism, went in there for a drink one night. No real indication of what drinks were on offer, and found a dog sitting on one of the bar seats with another one sprawled out on the floor blocking the walk through. We turned round and walked to Sloppy Joes where you will spend around $15 for a very generous Gin & Tonic. I only mention the winds bar because I hear a couple of managers discussing how to get more people into that bar as its open to the public ... couple of pointers for you then, best to stop dogs sitting at the bar and advertising your drinks better than a small unlit sign outside. Definitely get a beach front premium though, nice sized rooms with kitchen, big screen TV, bath / shower, fridge/freezer, two comfy big beds, balcony and sea view .... and free parking in what has become a world where you pay to park absolutely everywhere!

Thank you for the excellent rating and positive review. We appreciate your input on Waves beach bar and agree that while dogs are welcome on the outside patio they have no business at the bar. Will review our policies with the team. Also agree with your recommendation for the Premium Beachfront Studio. Provides a lot more space and amenities for a small upgrade price. We hope you can come back soon to enjoy the resort and Treasure Island beach.

beware of what you book I booked a PREMIUM poolside suite. from my reservation: Measuring 396 square-feet, our Poolside Premium Studio features pillowtop beds, a large bathroom with vanity room, 55 inch flat-screen LCD TV electronic safe, and a full suite of kitchen options. These lovely rooms offer everything in our Beachfront Rooms but boast a view of our swimming pool and courtyard areas. You ca connecting bedrooms for your additional family and friends. I contacted them and this is the response I received. Good Morning Ms. Spaulding, I see that you booked a premium poolside studio, with one king. Our pool sides do not have a view, and they line the pool, so they are limited to that back wall that you are on - we are at higher occupancy so unfortunely the location of the poolside depends on what we have available. I apologize for the misunderstanding.
Enjoy your weekend. Please let us know if I can assist with any other questions or concerns, thank you

Please accept my sincere apology for the incorrect description of the view from some Poolside Premium Studios. That was an error because as you noted not all of the rooms have a view of the pool. They are some of the few rooms that do not face directly towards the beach (90% of them do) and it has great premium features not found in our non-premium rooms but not the view. We have requested for the website descriptions to be updated for an accurate depiction of the view. Should your travels bring you back to Treasure Island I will gladly upgrade you to a Beachfront Premium. Clyde Smith - General Manager

We arrived at the resort and were able to find a parking spot convenient to our accommodations. There is a steep ramp to access the elevator to our room. Trying to push a loaded luggage cart up that ramp is a challenge! Parking is a problem - there are not enough parking spots to accommodate all visitors. There is valet service for the 2 popular restaurants on site. If you arrive back at at the resort at a meal time, you may have to cross the very busy Gulf Blvd to find a parking space, then walk back, crossing the busy Gulf Blvd again! We saw the across the street parking lot was just as full as the hotel parking lot when we went out early in the morning. The room is tight for 2 people, I cannot imagine 4 people in such a small space! The room had 2 queen beds, a table with 2 chairs and a kitchenette with dishes for 4. The bathroom was bigger than the kitchenette, but the light in the bathroom was very dim. Shampoo and conditioner with shower gel are in bottles at the tub. The location is the redeeming feature: right on the beach and across the street from a shopping district with restaurants, drug store, grocery store and other shops. Our room had a tiny balcony overlooking the beach with 2 chairs and the Sloppy Joes restaurant outdoor seating. We chose this resort because it was available for exchange using our timeshare. We like to go fishing off St Pete's Beach Merry Pier and Madeira Beach John's Pass. This location was a great location convenient for both. There are many restaurants with live entertainment at dinner time. We heard the music from Sloppy Joes on the beach as well as Ricky T's across the street. Both stopped playing at 9pm. Because of the heat we were unable to enjoy watching the sunsets from our room. The balcony door did not close all the way and the air conditioner unit kept the room comfortable but the sliding glass door got hot in the afternoon sunshine. 100 degree temperatures in the afternoon made the balcony unusable.

Marilyn, Thank you for choosing the Bilmar for your recent Tampa Bay beach getaway. I am glad you enjoyed our central location with easy access to dining and shopping as well at St. Pete Beach & John's Pass as well as downtown St. Petersburg just up Central Avenue. Our Beachfront Studio with balcony is our most popular room but the Premium Studios do offer 100 more square feet of space, lager kitchen and separate vanity area from the tub/shower area. Like much of the rest of the country we did have a record breaking heat wave and i am sorry you were not able to enjoy the balcony as much as you would have liked. Normally the mornings and amazing sunsets are enjoyed from this nice outdoor space. I do hope you will return for another visit soon. Sincerely, Clyde Smith - General Manager
