High in the North Georgia Mountains is Amicalola Falls State Park home of Amicalola Falls Lodge. Named after the Cherokee word for “tumbling waters” Amicalola Falls is one of the most popular state parks in Georgia. The park’s namesake is the 729-foot falls: the highest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River. The park is also the start of the 8-mile approach trail to Springer Mountain, the southern end of the 2,150-mile Appalachian Trail. The Lodge was built in 1990 by the State of Georgia, with 56 guestrooms in the main lodge and 14 cabins along with a gift shop, meeting space and a mountain view restaurant. The lodge rooms vary from standard hotel rooms with 2 double beds, loft suites that can sleep 6, to king bed suites with private balconies. The Lodge also is home to The Maple Restaurant that offers breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. The Lodge rests on 829 acres with on-site activities that include stream or pond fishing, as well as more than twelve miles of hiking trails, several centering on viewing the spectacular 729-foot waterfall. Amicalola Falls Lodge features more than 4,000 square feet of meeting space that can host groups and social events consisting of up to 150 people in traditional meeting spaces as well as a unique outdoor veranda setting. The Lodge’s spectacular view, peaceful setting, and exceptional service make it a destination not to be missed while in the North Georgia Mountains.

DH and I were passing through and only stayed one night at the Lodge. It's a beautiful drive there and your brakes better be in good condition! Check-in was quick and easy. Being a senior, I had requested a room close to the lobby area and they gave me that with no problem. The lobby is impressive with a wall of windows to see the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and entrance to an outside deck with rocking chairs. Nice. The restaurant was off to the right with the continued wall of windows. Our room was nicely appointed with a comfy king-sized bed, coffee pot (4-cup with paper coffee cups and only 1 packet each of caff and decaf coffee so ask for more), 2 chairs, and that beautiful view that we had seen in the lobby. They don't have a microwave, but I was told there is a community microwave on one of the floors. I didn't try it. If you ask for a refrigerator, they will bring one to your room while supplies last. No problem having that delivered. I was excited that the tub had a hand-held shower head, but it did not work. Only the regular shower head worked. Otherwise, the bathroom was spacious and well-stocked with the usual soap, conditioner, and lotion. We enjoyed it and wished we could stay longer.

This is a really nice property for a state park. The lodge rooms are recently renovated and were very nice and clean. Bedding was in great shape. Bathroom was nice. Would have been nice to have a mini fridge in room. TV was prob about 40-44" flatpanel and had Direct TV. reportedly there is no wifi in the rooms but we didn't try it. Verizon 4G service was 3 or 4 bars and you could use your phone w/o problem. Seating/chairs were limited in the room, mostly because the room wasn't very big. The lodge sits on top of a mountain facing west. Sunsets from the lobby deck were awesome and views from the rooms were also. While the rooms were great, the restaurant was just "meh".... As my son said, it taste like "state park food". It was ok but definitely wasn't great. Dinner menu was very limited. Breakfast was just a blah (not tasty) buffet. I would rank it about 2 stars, 3 tops. Views from the restaurant were great though. They did have a full bar. I don't remember everything but Jim, Jack, Tito's, Capt Morgan plus wines. A few notes. They charge a $12 per day "park fee" on top of your reservation fee. The $5 parking fee is included in this.

My family has visited Amicalola Falls State Park numerous times for the hikes and beautiful waterfall, but had never stayed on the property. Recently, my husband and I decided to try out the Amicalola Lodge. The lodge itself is stately and modern, yet warm and inviting. It is convenient to the trails, and every room has a view of the Appalachian foothills. Rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable, however our room lacked a microwave and small fridge. The television, however, was outstanding. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. We ate every meal in the Maple Restaurant, the in-lodge restaurant, and were pleased. Because of the remoteness of the lodge, it is the only convenient option. The only concern we had was that the super screen television in the restaurant was always tuned to a far-right news outlet (OAN), making it difficult to truly enjoy our experience. It was made worse because of the timing of our visit (post Jan. 6). A suggestion: tune any television provided for public viewing on something non-political. Otherwise, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Amicalola Lodge and feel that it was a good value.

Currently staying at the lodge. The rooms are clean and the housekeeping staff is very nice and thorough when servicing the rooms. I would have given a higher rating but the hotel misplaced my wife’s dialysis supplies ahead of our visit. After booking our reservation, I notified the lodge of the delivery and the name of company that will be on the supplies. My wife was unable to do her nightly treatment our first night. On the second day, the supplies were only found only after getting an angry call from us because we got confirmation that they were delivered days before via UPS. There has to be a better process in place for these types of deliveries for future guests.

My husband and I made a last minute decision to visit the lodge; I am so glad we did! The drive was gorgeous to the park and lodge. The lodge is located at the top of the mountain, the views are spectacular. God outdid Himself when He created the mountains of Georgia. The lodge is small, but well appointed. There is a restaurant / bar with amazing views in the lobby that serves breakfast and dinner (I’m not sure about lunch). We didn’t participate, but we saw many people zip lining (both kids and adults). This is an additional cost, but we talked to people who did it and they enjoyed it and said it was worth the money. Of course the main attraction is the waterfall. It is a short hike (1-2 minutes) from the lodge through the forest to get to the waterfall. The ground was uneven, I would not recommend this route for elderly visitors. I’m not sure how it is parking at the bottom as we stayed at the lodge and walked down the stairs. The waterfall is absolutely spectacular! There is a staircase on the side of the waterfall to take in the views. I’m in good physical condition, and I found the stairs physically draining. I would recommend going slow and steady, and stopping to rest on the different landings to catch your breath and slow your heart rate. My legs shook and were sore for days afterwards. Would I do it again? Definitely! We went halfway down and we were in awe of the beauty. We saw lots of families and their four legged kids enjoying the views. We stayed in a beautiful suite with a living area with a huge window, big bathroom, sleeping area with a king bed, and a private balcony with two Adirondack chairs. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast at The Maple Restaurant in the lobby. Susan was our awesome server for every meal. The food was delicious with stunning views! There was a limited buffet due to COVID, but we enjoyed ourselves nonetheless. Thank you Cici and James for a memorable stay.
