Our first stop of 6 in the Zululand/Maputaland region, and the best. We were warmly welcomed by Hugh and his excellent, friendly team. Always smiling and attentive. The accommodation is set in forest, with only 6 suites, which makes it all much more personal. The food was top quality. The safaris are mostly during the day, with plenty to see...

Our schedule allowed only one night, which limited our options, but we loved our stay and our night and morning safaris. I gather the night safari is not often requested, but particularly enjoyed seeing a honey badger. In the morning, we did not see the "big 5", but treasured our bird sightings including an Eastern Nicator, a pair of Pink-throated...

Comfortable lodge within the boundaries of the St Lucia National park. Pleasant atmosphere, good cooking and very good guide (birds are his specialty) at the border of lake St Lucia. We loved it and felt at home.

It is a very relaxed and tranquil resort in the St.Lucia wetlands parc. As the safari's in this parc are not that exciting anymore, having seen many parcs in our holiday, we find the price pretty high for the experience. But the lodges have beautiful views... And if you can afford the two nights stay, you will experience the wetlands...

We all loved "Maka" as our family of myself, my husband and two teenage children now refer to it as! We spent 5 nights in our beautiful rooms in the middle of the forest so we experienced the full range of activities, meals and weather! All the staff combined to make our stay a wonderful memory. Amazing breakfasts, wonderful picnic...

Even the road leading there gives you the feeling you are in the heart of nature. The lodge is great. Service is excellent,...

Makakatana Bay Lodge is a true gem located in the iSimangaliso Wetlands of St Lucia. The small size makes it very personable and you get a true experience of luxury while staying the bush. The lodge has a private beach on the lake and is a great viewing spot. The rooms are quite spacious and each room in unique. The...

Makakatana Bay Lodge is unlike anything I've ever experienced! The staff were so welcoming, so professional. We felt treated by their attention but never smothered by it. Our guide Andre, was wonderful. He took us out on several trips. He was knowledgeable, patient and quick to point out things we would be interested in. There were so many animals! We...
