A B&B By The River was one of the best experiences we have had in a bed and breakfast! From the beautiful queen ensuite to the huge screened in porch facing the river! The breakfast was prepared and served with a smile and boy it was delicious!! Johannes and Lydia always joined us for breakfast and it made it feel like coming home! We will definitely be returning when we go back to finish the other side of the amazing Cabot trail!! Thanks for everything .... The "G"s

We only stayed the 1 night as we were on our way to Louisbourg, but a very nice location to stay for visiting Port Hawkesbury and surrounding area. Modernized rooms and very comfortable King size bed. Quiet spot and hosts are fantastic! Will definitely stay there again when back in Port Hawkesbury.

We were traveling on Cape Breton Island and discovered A B & B by the River. We stayed a couple of nights while we were enjoying the Celtic Colours festival on the island. Our hosts were very friendly and extremely helpful. A B & B by the River is well off the beaten track, but it's certainly worth the extra effort. The setting is beautiful and very quiet. Our room was a good size with a very comfortable bed. The breakfasts are quite good and the homemade refreshments are wonderful. And the hosts are tremendous. I give A B & B by the River my highest recommendation. You won't regret finding them on your next trip to Cape Breton.

The minute we walked in the door we were treated like family and felt at home immediately. Lydia and Johannes were the highlight of our trip. The breakfast is amazing, it was the best breakfast on our whole trip. The rooms are newly remodeled and have a luxurious bathroom with a walk-in rainshower. They also have different plugs for german and american devices as well as USB so anyone can charge their phone at any time. The scenery is calm right at the river surrounded by a forrest. You could even use the barbecue set on your back porch (in the King Bedroom). All in all we enjoyed our talks over a wheat beer in the evening and we know that we will be back soon! All in a

A lovely B&B by the river, what felt like in the middle of no where, but not far from the Cabot trail. Large, beautiful room, with a sitting area and lovely modern bathroom. Off the beaten path but lovely setting. Really friendly owners who live in the house and run the B&B. Would recommend this place

Stayed at A B&B for 3 nights in July whilst travelling around Cape Breton. An awesome home with wonderful hosts Lydia & Johannes. Wonderful homemade hot breakfast and eggs made to order. Room was clean, spacious and comfortable, washrooms too were very clean. The view from the room was awesome. Enjoyed the beer too. Had great homely conversations with this lovely couple. Will recommend this B&B to friends and family.

I stayed at A B&B bay the River for 3 nights, and it was perfect. Wonderful homemade breakfast in the mornings, and delicious homebrewed beer in the evenings. Quiet and beautiful location, amazing hosts, and comfortable beds. If I am ever in the area again I will, without a doubt, book this place again.

Amazing fishing trip in the area this spring. Just a short drive from some of the best rainbow trout fishing I have ever experienced. My 11 year old is hooked. Wonderful hosts and beautiful accomodations. Even beer brewed on site. We will be back for sure... maybe every spring. Thanks.
