Nestled in the heart of the city, SpringHill Suites Chicago Downtown/River North is often celebrated for its clean and spacious rooms offering good views, although some guests suggest they could benefit from modernization. Its prime location is a highlight, with easy access to dining, shops, and transit.
While the hotel’s amenities, including the varied breakfast and commendable housekeeping, are generally well-received, certain areas might need refreshing. The hotel's atmosphere strikes a balance between modern comfort and a lively urban feel, and while the service is largely applauded for its professionalism, there have been occasional reports of delays.

Detailed Reviews
We’ve usually avoided staying downtown and settled for the suburbs and commuting in. Never again. The Springhill Suites offered a quiet, comfortable room within walking distance of everything we needed. Bar and food in the lobby if you want. Easy to walk to bars, restaurants, and Michigan Ave. Reasonable parking package with a garage attached to the hotel. We were very impressed and will make this our go to hotel in the city.

This weekend, being that it was Valentine’s Day and NBA All Star weekend was the most busiest weekend in Chicago this year. Just about almost every room in the city was well over $400 per night just this weekend. Like you’d imagine. We had our very clean suite for just half that price! Great location, clubs, restaurants, and bars were just about 2-5 min walking distance. This hotel is very clean and you get breakfast. I would recommend using SpotHero app to park your car at and using Lyft or Ubering every where else. Saves you $$$ Definitely will be returning.

This was a perfect weekend getaway, post pandemic in the vibrant River North area of Chicago. Loved everything about this property. We booked the 2 bed corner suite to have extra room for our family of 3, and it was very comfortable. We were able to check in early, for a fee of $15 which was reasonable. Before Covid, properties were starting to offer this although it didn't seem to be enforced much, now that travel demand is returning, I would bet that these charges are here to stay. One can always avoid by not checking in early. City views were outstanding. The location is perfect if you like the lively River North vibe. There's a mix of pedestrians both local and visitors, and traffic that almost approach pre-pandemic levels, which makes you feel safe walking around in the evenings, but not so crowded that it can be annoying, which Michigan Avenue was getting to be in recent years. It's one of my favorite "walkable" areas to visit, in any city, anywhere. Although a few places have closed, there is still an abundance of choices from inexpensive to pricey when looking for restaurants and shopping venues. After almost a year and a half of not traveling, this was the first time I felt that life could return to something approaching normal.
The property itself is very well managed. The building is a dual-brand with Residence Inn on the left side and the Springhill on the right. Public areas and our guest room were immaculately clean, I'm sure that the enhanced cleaning protocols that hotels advertise will start to slip away as things reopen, but for now, the attention to detail is very evident. Beds were super comfortable, and I can't tell you how much we've missed hearing the sounds of the city while drifting off to sleep on a Chicago getaway. In the morning, the hotel offers a free breakfast, which I was wondering what that would be like, given that breakfast buffets have always been a little gross to me. However they had a very good setup, guests lined up to a counter, cafeteria style, and the employees would provide whatever was requested, instead of a free for all, this seemed much more sanitary. We didn't partake of the food items, which seemed to be scrambled eggs, some type of bread or muffin, some type of breakfast meats, maybe cereal packets, and yogurt. The seating area was about half full so I imagine many guests took the food back to their rooms. The coffee was certainly good. You can bypass the food line entirely if coffee is all you're after. Later in the morning (the breakfast closes early, at 9:30) we got bagel sandwiches at a deli nearby. Places that are open still have limited hours in many cases, so it's good to check beforehand. Again there were so many options, much more than expected. When it was time to return to the hotel at night, very easy to relax in our room. Really impressed with the overall operation of this hotel, John and Bernia at the front desk were wonderful, and we will certainly return.

The hotel was good and had everything we needed for our stay. The location was great and ideal for exploring the city. John in particular on the front desk was really helpful and friendly throughout our stay. My only real criticism was that the hotel has a long was to go in terms of sustainability. In our rooms the coffee cups were disposable and even at breakfast the plates, cups and cutlery were all disposable. This is really unnecessary. It would be absolutely be possible to make these all things that can be washed and reused. In addition we were told that if we were happy to reuse our towels we just had to hang them up. Despite doing this, they were replaced every day, We would have been happy to use the towels to be more enviornmentally friendly but weren't given the option.

My son & I stayed overnight for my birthday! Great hotel, everyone was so friendly. I really liked that you came in & there was secerity/doorman to see what you needed then you took that elevator to the 2and floor where you check in & then a separate elevator up to your room. So not anyone off the street could just walk in & go into the hotel. Great breakfast & Happy hour! Very clean! My son loved that the pool was on the 27th floor!

I had a meeting that was going to be ending late and starting early the next day for work. So the company allowed us to make reservations here - since we had a block of rooms and we had people flying in from all over the country.
I only stayed a night but from the little bit of time I was in the hotel, it was very nice.
The front desk is on the 2nd floor of the building and it was a very sleek & nice reception area.
The hotel was hosting a happy hour when I arrived at the hotel around 10:25 pm, until 11 pm. So I checked in and went to my room to drop off my things.
The room, on the 3rd floor, was very nice. There was a seating area with a desk. There were a microwave and refrigerator with a wet bar. The sleeping area was very large and I got a queen size bed all to myself! It was epic to sleep in such a large bed all by myself. The pillows weren't the best as soon as I put my head on it, it went flat. And putting more than 2 pillows together just was uncomfortable.
The bathroom was a very nice size and the water pressure was amazing!!! I really did not want to get out... especially knowing that it was cold outside! There is that usual sink outside of the bathroom and the mirror over the sink was massive! It was great for putting on my make-up with no problems because of the lighting.
There was a nice size television that was on a swivel base that would allow you to watch it from either the seating area or from the bed.
My only complaint was since I was on the 3rd floor, and the location of this particular room, I heard the mechanics of the elevator whizzing by and the noise from the street below.
Just about all my other colleagues had higher floor rooms so they didn't have this problem during the night... and being in the middle of a very high traffic area of the city, hearing the noise from the street didn't allow for a night of good night sleep.
Other than that, for the price and especially the location, I would certainly go back and recommend the hotel for out of town guests.

The most important things to me are a mini fridge, a coffee maker, and a good workout facility. This hotel failed on all of those. The little freezer compartment on the fridge was so crusted with ice it was not usable. They only had a mini coffee maker that only used the weird disposable inserts with tea bags of coffee--horrible! No coffee service outside of breakfast hours. The workout facility was very warm. Only one of the 2 bikes worked. Not sure of all 3 ellipticals worked. I like having a TV to just watch. None of elliptical TVs worked. There were 4 treadmills. I know at least 3 worked. The TVs operated very strangely. TV channels did not come up in numerical order. I was only able to find food channel and HGTV on one elliptical (2 unknown and 1 did not have them). The room did have towels and disinfecting wipes and water without cups. The sink in the room is open directly in front of the bed. Not optimum when trying to not disturb a spouse. It is clean and a decent price. The staff were courteous and helpful.

I really enjoyed this hotel. The room was big, with a small basic kitchenette area. This consisted of a microwave, fridge, sink and shelf, which was very helpful. Should be noted though there is no utensils, cutlery or plates - so I picked these up from the office on the evenings I decided to stay in the room. The room had two further elements a lounge type area and a bed area. The lounge had a small corner style sofa and a work desk area, with a lamp, the television was placed centrally so it could be directed to either the bedroom or the seating area. This was nice as felt like I didn't have to sit on the bed when in the room.
The hotel had a pool on the top floor, it was ok, sometimes a little cold. The hottub wasn't working and I think had been out of order for some time. I used the pool every morning and although small, it was adequate. There aren't really changing facilities though, so I tended to dry off as much as possible and then head back down to my room. The views were really lovely though across the city in the morning.
I used the laundrette facilities (having a week stay extended necessitated this), they were fine and the washers and dryer were very quick. $2 for a wash and the same to use the dryer.
The bar was great and they did a superb Old Fasioned, the barmen were really friendly and welcomed me each evening, when i propped up the bar with a book and an old fashioned.

Staying downtown can seem fairly impersonal at times. Very professional and moving on to the next person. Theres nothing wrong with that as long as the service is there, but it's still nice when the staff is able to provide a more personal touch. Upon arrival, despite being incredibly busy for new years eve/day, everyone was extremely hospitable and accommodating. Our bellhop had the best attitude and smile ever. Will helped with our incredible amount of bags, and did not seem downbeat in the slightest. Our checkin experience was smooth, and very pleasurable even. The staff had answers to all our questions, and they even had security for New Years Eve which was comforting. They were also very keen on using my name, which made the stay that much better (Bernie and Jon were the few I remember, but everyone was great nonetheless). The staff was amazing. 5s across the board.
Now for the amenities. This is technically a select service hotel, but this location takes their service to a whole new level. You get the room service, valet parking, and bar services that youd expect at a full service, but you get the free breakfast, and the little market of a select service hotel. Not to mention the price as well (VERY big bang for your buck). The pool and hot tub at the top of the hotel was probably my favorite feature! Chillin in a hot tub with a view? You really dont get more spoiled than that. Floor to ceiling windows in the rooms, decent views around the building, close do everything relevant in chicago. Hands down my favorite property in all of chitown. With the amazing staff, placement, and amenities, it truly does feel like a night of luxury at a fantastic price. Thanks guys! I will DEFINITELY plan future stays here! (Please pass this along to all your staff, as I want them to know they are doing a fantastic job, and they DO get noticed)

Being teachers, I thought it would be impossible to find a decently priced downtown hotel. I was excited to book this hotel (a 2 bed studio) for one night for $109. With taxes and fees it was $127. This included breakfast. Being country folk, we are always on the lookout for extra fees. We knew valet parking and even the self-park at the hotel were out of the question. We found a spot in a garage through Spot Hero for $28. Another thing we've noticed about the big city is the bell hops at hotels who are looking for tips. With five in our family we are perfectly willing/able to get our luggage to our room, no problem. The nice man at the door didn't hassle us about this at all (maybe he took note of our 2003 Chevy Express Van and decided it wasn't worth the hassle!). The nice man at the desk was also very hospitable. Check-in went smoothly until he told me he had charged my card $200 to cover any damages. This really put a dent in my budget! I didn't question him, but the more I thought about it, the more it bugged me. If this is standard procedure in the big city, they need to make you aware of this when you book the room! He said if the room checked out ok after we left I would get the $70 or so back in I think 3 to 5 business days. The room was nice. It wasn't huge but we didn't expect it to be. We didn't have much of a view from our room. There was a nice view from the 27th floor where the pool/fitness room were. The hot tub was down for repairs which upset our kids. Beds were comfy. Room was difficult to cool down as we like it chilly when we sleep. Breakfast in the morning was typical with some hot/cold choices. They had two rooms serving breakfast and ours was PACKED. Luckily my husband had the foresight of locating a table and saving it. If you wanted a waffle, forget it! The bagel/toast line wasn't too much better. We didn't get down there until 8:00 so my recommendation is to go earlier. Overall, it was a decent experience. When I get my $70 back, I might be feeling a bit more optimistic.
