An excellent hotel and location.
Rooms: Bed was very comfortable. Modern lighting and built-in couch gave it a unique feel that you don’t get in most cookie-cutter hotel rooms. Views are impressive the higher up your room. Bathroom was clean with a wonderful rain shower head. The only negative is no fridge or coffee maker...fridge is on request only.
Hallways: Dark, but modern/club like feel. Definitely nice if you have a rough night out and don’t need bright lights.
Lobby: Very modern, but layout is a bit confusing. No real design flow from carport to check-in desk to bar/lounge...they’re just thrown together. Regardless, they’re updated so it’s a good experience.
Staff: Incredibly friendly and helpful. Was thanked for being a rewards member and treated with the highest respect even though I booked through a 3rd part my site. Concierge was quite attentive as well.
Overall: It’s in a great quiet location with perfect views of the lake, Navy Pier, and surrounding buildings. Staff is courteous and you’ll find most amenities at your fingertips. Would definitely stay here again!

This is my third stay here at the W, the last stay was probably 5 years ago.
They have a modern decor with black hallway walls, floor tiles in the bathroom, tables and chairs in the lobby. The black shows so much wear.
The hotel overall is ready for an update. There were several broken lights in our in-room chandelier, the movie we rented did not work and they had to reset the server, the electronic key door for our room was missing the faceplate.
I will say that they are taking Covid precautions very seriously. I saw several staff members cleaning common touched surfaces, everyone wore masks all the time, and they give you the option to opt out of in-room housekeeping.

Bring comfortable walking shoes easy to access Navy Pier and other restaurants, there is a 7 Eleven near for drinks and snacks. We were given a lakefront view in an accessible room but not sure how it was a handicap room as it was all the way down the hall from the elevator and pretty narrow walk way in the room and the bathroom had a tub but the handicap bars. The room was fine, bathroom a good size but no extra toliet paper and when I called down for more they never came. Beware of the garage next store that was probably built years ago when cars were a smaller size. We have a good size pick up truck and talk about tight, the driver had to get out the passenger side it was such a tight squeeze. Although this is the closet parking garage I would park elsewhere, not to mention I had issues on the app that I reserve the parking with. The front desk, bartenders and all employees we encountered were friendly and good customer service.

Travel is difficult in normal times. During covid it got to be a real pain. 2 types of companies have decided to show up - those that blame everything on covid and hotels that make it work. We upgraded to a corner suite facing the water and this Room is worth whatever point or $s you need to spend. It is fantastic view of the Lake the boats that pull in the sailboats and the beach. The Sun sets perfectly for enhancing the colors of the view you can watch people water skiing jet skiing whatever just relax it is a perfect two rooms and extremely quiet with the double pane glass. Someone mention that it was a bit off the beaten path but we found it to be extremely well located the walk felt great in the morning to get out to miracle mile or over to millennia park or to the museum's. The restaurant near it range from a place that specializes and eggs all the way up to the purple pig just 5 blocks away. The people just made it work. If there was a need for something they figured it out. The bar is open on the weekends only that is little bit of a problem but there's a nice store down the road you caCDn get a great bottle of wine some bread some cheese and picnic in the Room if you need to. Enjoyed all the people that we met in the hotel and they made it easy along with a great property - will be back

I was in Chicago for business and was staying on the Magnificent Mile, but decided to try out the W for a night. This was the first time I stayed at a W and it was what I was expecting. It is very hip and modern.
While it is not on Michigan Ave where most of the action is, we still found the location to be quite convenient as it was only a 15 minute walk. If the weather is good, it's a nice stroll.
I think the best part of the hotel is the view of the Lake.
In addition, since the pandemic I feel like service has been severely lacking, but that was not the case when we checked in. Precious at the front desk was one of the most professional associates that has checked me in for a long time. Even when we checked out, the other associate who helped was clearly trained.
I think it is strange that they offer Platinum guests a $10 breakfast credit as that seems low if you want a full breakfast.
I used a suite night upgrade that cleared for a Marvelous suite and we enjoyed the room. As said previously, the highlight was the view. I will say that the room has clear signs of wear and tear. The tile in the bathroom was cracked in multiple places and the neon furniture they chose does show some discoloration.
In summary, we would stay here again as the value was definitely there.
Pros
Great price
Lake view
Fantastic front desk staff
Cons
Signs of wear and tear
Platinum breakfast credit is only $10

I went to the W chicago this weekend to explore downtown chicago. I paid on Priceline and gave them my card to hold $200 for the incidentals which was fine because I knew that before coming. Later that night I decided to check my bank account and found I was charged $417 plus $200 hold for the room. They said it was a mistake and the money should return next week. Next week??? That is a whole $600 that I know did not have out of town. They didnt even try to make things right, offer anything for the inconvenience, etc. I feel their nonchalant attitide is what irritated me the most. Everyone makes mistakes but they blew this off like it was nothing. No, I chose the W because I wanted to experience a high end hotel, and experience downtown chicago to the fullest. But having money held up made that very difficult. Also to be a high end hotel they did not have microwaves or refridgerators in their room.

Response from WChicagoLakeshore, Public Relations Manager at W Chicago - Lakeshore
Responded Mar 6, 2020
Good morning, Thank you for choosing to stay at W Lakeshore. I apologize that the communication from the front desk was not clear. Your room was not prepaid so the original hold was for room tax and incidentals or roughly 1.5 times the room and tax and so you had about $115 in original incidental hold after room and tax charges. (we normally hold $200 in addition to room and tax). You were not charged twice, rather you spent more than $100 of your incidental hold on your first night and our system automatically increased your credit limit to account for your spending patterns. I do see however that for the inconvenience our team did adjust a F&B charge off of your receipt. I apologize that your funds were held up during your stay and that it impacted your ability to enjoy your trip in Chicago. If you have any further questions please feel free to reach out to us on property directly.

This weekend I stayed at W Chicago 644 N Lakeshore drive. An absolute IDEAL location to stay for all your favorite places you’d want to visit while downtown Chicago. Staff is super nice. Check in was a breeze with Steven he was super nice. They’d just opened back up to the public so he was a little rusty on certain questions I had but other than that he was great. Lobby is really nice and modern. Hallways and elevators are not air conditioned. My room was a bit smaller than I expected. Shower makes a weird sound when you first turn it on as if plumbing needs work, toilets need attention, our toilet seat had ugly permanent stains on them. The entrance to the room is super tight I struggled getting in the door with my luggage, as well as getting food from room service who also understandably refused to enter the room to roll in my food I’m assuming due to covid, so I had to lift and carry my own trays of food, but no biggie. Beds appear comfy but after the second night of sleeping on them my lower back was in pain. There were no face towels I had to request towels and tissue. I requested a fridge and microwave those were provided with no problem. Our first night sleep was okay, the next morning there was a roach on the wall by our door entry inside of our room. I called the front desk, Sarah the director of operations was really accommodating and helpful. She moved us to another room right away with a better view with no additional costs and even provided us with complimentary breakfast. Breakfast was pretty good. I had potatoes, toast, eggs with cheddar, bacon and coffee. Coffee was not the greatest. Their pool is closed due to covid and so is the gym. Overall my stay was okay. Not what I expected with it being such a Popular hotel. I was just hoping for a much better experience. The best part was being so close to Navy Pier, Ohio street Beach, and Fulton Market area.

The location was fabulous, the beds were very comfortable. however, they charge you for wifi, breakfast, no coffee machine in the room and an extra $200 for cleaning which you have to follow up on them to credit back to you. The hallways were so dark that I dropped my $20 bill and I could not find it. Also, when you call the front desk, you are on hold for more than 5 minutes with this annoying scratchy music. Otherwise, the rooms were clean and the view is great if you pay extra for the ocean view otherwise you will see the neighbors a few feet away from you in another building. Overall, my stay was good for one time stay.

The lobby is beautiful and fun. This is where the 4 star ratings end.
Check IN: I ask for what upgrades were available. I always upgrade at the hotel when i book with priceline. At first she said they were sold out for the weekend nothing was available .I had to reiterate, I am willing to pay I don't want to be stuck in a closet somewhere. She insisted again they were sold out but then said you can upgrade to lake view for $50 a night. So we took it. Worth it....the view is beautiful.
Room: The room is a motel 6 covered in Ikea furniture and wall paper. Signs of wear and tear everywhere as if the rooms aren't maintained at all. Sloppy caulking, sloppy repainting. Scuff and bangs on all furniture. And the bed gets a 1 star. The sheets actually felt like paper I could barely sleep.
Bathroom: Fixtures in the bathroom seemed better up to par however the toilet paper was literally see through. Here comes the UGLY....They are having intermittent issues with their plumbing so when we checked in the water was coming out BROWN! I had to call downstairs and they told me to let the water run for a few minutes to clear the pipes. I expect this to be immediately communicated at check-in. It cleared up by the night but talk about shock.
Service: Service to the room was quick. Internet and water bottles free when you are Marriot members.
Lobby Bar: Vegas prices for their drinks. Almost double the cost for what I paid at the Hyatt during the week.

I am writing another review for this hotel because our experience was just as phenomenal as the first! We had a wedding block at the hotel for my brother’s wedding and it was seriously amazing! Our guests raved about their rooms and all of the staff was extremely accommodating. Arlene was super helpful and knowledgeable when interacting with guests and their room requests. Sasha went above and beyond to make our overall experience 100% perfect! She was always available when I needed her and was super detail oriented. She was absolutely fantastic to work with in every way! Erika at the front desk provided the best customer service for me and my guests. Finally, another huge thank you to Marshay and especially Michelline who were involved in all of the planning and Michelline was always available to help with anything I needed prior to our arrival. I am so thankful we had them to help make everything a huge success!
Do yourself a favor and book a block of rooms at this hotel. Your guests will never stay in a better room for a wedding! We booked the Wow suite and then the E Wow suite for our after parties and they were worth every penny! The huge space and incredible views of the lake and Navy Pier made it the best place to keep the celebration going.
Finally, a big shout out to the doormen. Kenneth, Pierre, and BJ spent many trips carting our belongings, drinks, snacks, etc. to and from our room and our cars. Thank you so much for all of your help, we couldn’t have done it without you! Please make sure you tip them big time!
I can’t say about about this modern, clean, classy, hotel. The bar and lobby are more like a club and a fabulous place to grab a cocktail. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were beautiful. If you are looking for exceptional customer service and the friendliest staff, this is your place. I will definitely be a return guest!

Typically, it takes anywhere between 3-5 business depending on your bank.
I would use spot hero to see if you can find a discounted spot (if you’re not planning on taking your car in and out). Some garages are a 6 ft max car vehicle height, so I would definitely ask the hotel first.
