Detailed Reviews
Great location and easy to walk into downtown area. Rooms are comfortable and colorful, which is a nice change from the corporate bland decor you often find. Special mention should got to the staff in the breakfast area as they are a credit to the hotel for being so friendly. Only negative is that the breakfast area is quite ‘bleak’ compared to the rest of the hotel. Food was just ok. Was shocked by the amount of disposable plates, cups, cutlery, all of which presumably end up in a landfill or being burnt. Surely a dishwasher and reusable crockery could be used?

Our family of four stayed here between Christmas and New Year’s and enjoyed our stay. It’s located in a great area with easy walking access to restaurants, L train stations, and the Magnificent Mile. The rooms are specious, comfortable, and clean. We felt safe walking in the area at night. All staff we encountered were very friendly and professional. The two drawbacks are the location across from the fire station, which some nights was not an issue at all and other nights woke us up quite a bit. The breakfast rush also meant a chaotic breakfast area and very slow elevators during that time. Otherwise, this hotel met our needs for our visit to Chicago.

I would have easily given this hotel 5 stars if only there were in-room safes. My room was spacious with a nice wardrobe and shelves where a safe could have been installed, but there was none. I already know the Management response will be that I could have put valuables in the hotel safe, but having to go to the front desk and wait for an agent just to deposit of remove a credit card of laptop computer each time is not convenient at all.
My room was super clean and very comfortable. Despite what others have said here, housekeeping is still every 3rd day, or upon request; not daily. And the breakfast staff are friendly and helpful, but the food selection is very limited compared to a Hampton Inn or HI Express. They had only two cold cereals, for example, both high in sugar! They had hot food novelties each day, but not the basics of an American or English breakfast such as scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, potatoes, etc.
Would I stay here again? Probably. The location can't be beat and the rooms facing the back (north) are quiet as you don't face the Fire Station just across the street.

Hotel located in a good central location, close to all points of interest in the city. Staff generally very friendly, room small but with large bathroom, breakfast included but basic. Unfortunately, as in almost all US hotels of this type, cleaning is carried out every 3 days for the first time and then every 2 days. Personally I find it really a bit little. Did 5 nights at 320.- francs per night, honestly with the possibility of canceling until shortly before.

If what you are looking is location, this hotel is certainly in a central location with good access to shopping, restaurants, and public transportation. However, so are a dozen of other hotels in a mile radius without being on this city block right across from a fire station. The noise of the emergency vehicles is just too much. Why staying at a place right on that block? In our case is simple, we did not do our research and realized that before booking.
The other big disappointment of the place is that we booked thinking we were getting "breakfast" included in the price. Let me describe what it is called breakfast here, 1) Medium roast watery coffee and hot water for on type of black tea, oranges (only fruit provided), cereal, two flavors of yogurt, and some industrial-grade pre-packed muffins. not other pastry items, no bread at all, no butter, no jelly, no cream cheese, nothing else. There are two hot items though: scrambled eggs and turkey sausage patties. These items were all the same for five straights mornings that we spent at this hotel.
In conclusion, we ended up going to WholeFoods (0.5 mile from the hotel) bought some items like bread, bananas, and cream cheese, and every morning we will get some decent coffee from a local place and cater our own simple breakfast in the room.
The only reason I gave the hotel three stars is because the room is cleaned, and the front desk person is very attentive.
We will be back to Chicago in October, not to this hotel.

We stayed at the hotel for one night and enjoyed a great time. The room had the perfect level of comfort and sound isolation was pretty good. Breakfast service was great, especially the joyful team of Fannie, Javier and Jose really make you feel welcome. Only downside is the non-recycled disposable cutlery. Why not offer regular tableware?

This was our approximately 5th visit over the past 6 years. We were unable to come to visit Chicago 2020 for obvious reasons.
We originally picked this hotel as we have 3 sons whom we would take various times on trips in between finishing college or whatever. So the full on breakfast the offered was an absolute money saver and worked real well for us!
We first met Javier and Fannie, the hosts and delightful people. Always helpful during breakfast, cleaning, getting whatever ya need and assisting in whatever ya need.
They quickly become our go to about placed to visit, where to go to eat to enjoy Chicago. Well now we actually book there just to go see them, say hi and catch up!
They are pleasant to talk to and our annual trips are always enhanced seeing them!
The hotel is clean, front desk courteous and nice!
The hotel location is nice for easy access by walking to restaurants (we have eaten at Portillo's, Bub City and the unfortunately closed now, Gino's East) there are now, due to covid, they blocked off a section of the adjacent street for local restaurants to have outdoor dining! A great treat for us as qe enjoy seeing the city..especially at night!
We have walked to the riverwalk, Lake Michigan and the walkway, Field Museum and Navy Pier. We are walkers and enjoy. So if not walkers a quick Uber or Lyft is easily done.
The hotel is dealing with City government protocols so room cleaning is conducted upon request or if staying a lengthy time typically after 3 days. But you can request whatever ya need they are accommodating!
We again enjoyed our stay and the surroundings.

The hotel itself was a short 15-minute walk from Millennium Station, which is ideal for us as we typically take the Metra to the city. The king room we booked was as described and very clean. One of the best offerings was the luggage hold at the beginning and end of your stay. If you are like us, we had lots of weekend plans that went outside the bounds of check-in and check-out time. Our bags were tagged and stored for free in a safe and locked space. Also, the hotel staff was always friendly! We'd stay here again!

We got a room on the 11th floor overlooking Illinois Street. Rooms were spacious and clean. We (especially the kids) enjoyed the view down to the fire department and the sirens didn't wake us at night. Front desk person at check-in was new, but we got it worked out eventually. Location is very good for food options and 3-4 blocks to the subway and river. Safe. Laundry in the basement was very helpful, but $6 worth of drying will still give you a damp load. Good workout room in the basement. Breakfast was standard Fairfield Inn except some gluten free bakery items on request. Would recommend overall.

The Fairfield Inn and Suites Chicago Downtown/River North had great reviews and it did not disappoint! The location was close to several transit stops, or within walking distance of our destinations. We were warmly welcomed at the front desk. Our room was clean, and each day the housekeepers kept it exceptionally clean. This was particularly welcome because some hotels had discontinued daily cleaning during Covid. While the breakfast area was quite busy, there was always a table available for us. One of the workers came around to check to see if there was anything we needed during breakfast, and another called to us while we were leaving to “have a great day.”

William.gill at whitelodging and Nadia.rodriguez at whitelodging sent me emails after I stayed there. They are employees who were wonderful
I agree with the previous answer. There was nothing labeled gluten free, but there was an assortment o f protein and fruit that might work. But do call and ask if they can meet your needs. The staff at this Fairfield is amazingly helpful and accommodating.
