This was our approximately 5th visit over the past 6 years. We were unable to come to visit Chicago 2020 for obvious reasons.

We originally picked this hotel as we have 3 sons whom we would take various times on trips in between finishing college or whatever. So the full on breakfast the offered was an absolute money saver and worked real well for us!

We first met Javier and Fannie, the hosts and delightful people. Always helpful during breakfast, cleaning, getting whatever ya need and assisting in whatever ya need.

They quickly become our go to about placed to visit, where to go to eat to enjoy Chicago. Well now we actually book there just to go see them, say hi and catch up!
They are pleasant to talk to and our annual trips are always enhanced seeing them!

The hotel is clean, front desk courteous and nice!
The hotel location is nice for easy access by walking to restaurants (we have eaten at Portillo's, Bub City and the unfortunately closed now, Gino's East) there are now, due to covid, they blocked off a section of the adjacent street for local restaurants to have outdoor dining! A great treat for us as qe enjoy seeing the city..especially at night!

We have walked to the riverwalk, Lake Michigan and the walkway, Field Museum and Navy Pier. We are walkers and enjoy. So if not walkers a quick Uber or Lyft is easily done.

The hotel is dealing with City government protocols so room cleaning is conducted upon request or if staying a lengthy time typically after 3 days. But you can request whatever ya need they are accommodating!

We again enjoyed our stay and the surroundings.

I would have easily given this hotel 5 stars if only there were in-room safes. My room was spacious with a nice wardrobe and shelves where a safe could have been installed, but there was none. I already know the Management response will be that I could have put valuables in the hotel safe, but having to go to the front desk and wait for an agent just to deposit of remove a credit card of laptop computer each time is not convenient at all.

My room was super clean and very comfortable. Despite what others have said here, housekeeping is still every 3rd day, or upon request; not daily. And the breakfast staff are friendly and helpful, but the food selection is very limited compared to a Hampton Inn or HI Express. They had only two cold cereals, for example, both high in sugar! They had hot food novelties each day, but not the basics of an American or English breakfast such as scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, potatoes, etc.

Would I stay here again? Probably. The location can't be beat and the rooms facing the back (north) are quiet as you don't face the Fire Station just across the street.

If what you are looking is location, this hotel is certainly in a central location with good access to shopping, restaurants, and public transportation. However, so are a dozen of other hotels in a mile radius without being on this city block right across from a fire station. The noise of the emergency vehicles is just too much. Why staying at a place right on that block? In our case is simple, we did not do our research and realized that before booking.
The other big disappointment of the place is that we booked thinking we were getting "breakfast" included in the price. Let me describe what it is called breakfast here, 1) Medium roast watery coffee and hot water for on type of black tea, oranges (only fruit provided), cereal, two flavors of yogurt, and some industrial-grade pre-packed muffins. not other pastry items, no bread at all, no butter, no jelly, no cream cheese, nothing else. There are two hot items though: scrambled eggs and turkey sausage patties. These items were all the same for five straights mornings that we spent at this hotel.
In conclusion, we ended up going to WholeFoods (0.5 mile from the hotel) bought some items like bread, bananas, and cream cheese, and every morning we will get some decent coffee from a local place and cater our own simple breakfast in the room.

The only reason I gave the hotel three stars is because the room is cleaned, and the front desk person is very attentive.

We will be back to Chicago in October, not to this hotel.

I just came back from a quick family vacation in Chicago. I was surprised at this hotel. First and foremost the front desk personnel and the maintenance personnel were very friendly, courteous and helpful. The hotel is walking distance to Michigan Ave. the river, restaurants and downtown area. I requested a double bed room. The rooms are spacious with big beds to fit two people and really comfortable.
In the room you have a coffee maker but no microwave, of course an iron and an ironing board. Everything is well maintained, I don’t know how old the hotel is but it looks new. Our room was in the tenth floor. Very nice view. It has new technology double glass windows and you don’t hear a sound. The only thing I was not happy about was that the hotel is in front of a fire station. So we heard every time there was an emergency and the fire trucks were on their way. After a few days you get used to it. So we rested really well.

The Fairfield Inn and Suites Chicago Downtown/River North had great reviews and it did not disappoint! The location was close to several transit stops, or within walking distance of our destinations. We were warmly welcomed at the front desk. Our room was clean, and each day the housekeepers kept it exceptionally clean. This was particularly welcome because some hotels had discontinued daily cleaning during Covid. While the breakfast area was quite busy, there was always a table available for us. One of the workers came around to check to see if there was anything we needed during breakfast, and another called to us while we were leaving to “have a great day.”

The service provided by Javier and Fannie was exceptional! They were very friendly and professional. It was so nice to be greeted by these two as you would walk in for breakfast in the morning. Highly recommend this hotel! They made sure that the tables were sparkling clean and they always asked if you needed anything else.

I was pleasantly surprised by the overall service. Cleanliness is everything to me when choosing a hotel and this property delivered on cleanliness and amazing service from the staff. We called ahead of time to let the hotel know that we would be landing in the morning to see if we could check-in extra early (with a small fee of $30). A room wasn't ready upon immediate arrival, but we only had to wait a short 45 minutes for one to become available.

The staff overall provided 5 star service. All staff were courteous, polite and helpful. Huge shoutout to Javier in the breakfast area. We were grabbing coffee as they were wrapping up breakfast and Javier waited to ensure that we had enough coffee (even though everything was being put away). Plus, he was just a really nice person, it really made our stay pleasant.

Please don't be dissuaded by the negative comments regarding parking/valet and the fire station. 1. The service of the hotel has nothing to do with a fire house located across the street. Plus, we never really heard the trucks (and we were on a lower floor closer to it). And 2. Parking in Chicago is overall a pain and you should do your own research to navigate it. Again, not reflective of the hotel's service. And finally, the valet takes so long because they have to park the cars over 2 blocks away, so to complain about the wait time is ridiculous to me. Plan better, and make sure you request the car 20-30 minutes before you need it (and the staff actually relay this, so there should be no surprise).

The hotel has no frills, but makes up for it in quality service and great staff. The location is beyond amazing. It's walking distance to the Mag Mile, the Riverwalk, and a bajillion restaurants, bars, etc. We've been to Chicago quite a few times, and this was the first trip we took without having to take any Ubers. Highly recommend this property and would absolutely stay here again.

Fairfield Inn River North is a great value for the traveler looking to be in the middle of things yet still saving a buck or two. I especially applaud the front desk and morning breakfast staff, all of whom were friendly and responsive. And our room's king bed was extremely comfortable -- I slept like a baby all six nights.

We arrived at night and were told we had to request housekeeping services 24 hours in advance. Needless to say we were there 2 nights and our room didn’t get cleaned. No new towels. The breakfast was terrible. Scrambled eggs and sausage with no toast or bread products of any kind. Bad coffee. Also right across the road from the fire department so lots of sirens!

I agree with the previous answer. There was nothing labeled gluten free, but there was an assortment o f protein and fruit that might work. But do call and ask if they can meet your needs. The staff at this Fairfield is amazingly helpful and accommodating.
