Having pre-booked months ahead, arriving via AMTRAK during a Chicago September 'cold snap,' we found our Essex Inn room very comfortable & cosy. The counter staff were friendly, pleasantly chatty and efficient and the overall ambiance that of a good quality tourist hotel. We particularly enjoyed dining at the in-house Brasserie by LM, which has an excellent breakfast, modestly priced...

We stayed during September and found the location of the hotel good. It was away from the centre of the city and required a bit of walk but we liked this aspect. The hotel rooms we a nice size (with two beds) and the beds were really comfy. the staff were really helpful and friendly.

This hotel may meet the minimum qualifications to be rated a 3-star hotel, but it definitely did not meet 3-star standards. Rooms were small, bathrooms and carpets need a deep, deep cleaning and heating/cooling system needs serious updating. I'm sure this was an above average hotel 20 years ago.

Not walking distant to attractions unless you are physically fit. Mis-led by web page.......not great views from rooftop garden, and rooftop is only the garage roof which is 4th floor. Maybe a view if you are on top floors facing the lake. Older rooms, not so clean.Overall not impressed and not worth the price.

The hotel is a 5 dollar taxi ride from the centre of the city. The rooms are a little dated but they are very clean and roomy enough. The indoor pool and gym is excellent and the staff were spot on. I would recommend this hotel

I stayed at the Essex Inn for 10 days on business, and highly recommend this hotel as an affordable place to stay. My room was basic, clean and comfortable, with an excellent bed, and the central location on Michigan Avenue really is fantastic. I walked everywhere, because the hotel was so central and because Chicago is so pleasant to walk...

Stayed here for two nights on business because the neighboring hotel for the conference was sold out. Enjoyed the view, and the clean rooms. Well suited for the business traveler. Also appreciated the free wifi. Would definitely stay here again.
