We knew in advance that the Essex was only 3 stars, but we were pleasantly surprised how good our stay was. We arrived fairly early, 10.30 on Sunday morning, after travelling by Amtrak from Washington and were allowed to check in without any problems. Our room on the 5th floor overlooking the park and the balcony outside the swimming pool...

The staff were friendly, the room was clean with comfy beds. Although I'd emailed three days ahead for a room with a view over Grant park and requested Champagne or Chocolates for our room when we arrived as a surprise for my husbands birthday they didn't emIl me back until after we arrived. We had a side room, if you...

We were concerned when this came up as a Priceline choice but actually liked this place. It's clean, the staff are friendly and helpful and the location is pretty good, even though we weren't going to museums in that area. The nearby subway station put everything else we wanted to do within reach. The bathroom is divided to allow one...

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. From the O'Hare airport it takes around 1 hour to get to the hotel (45 minutes by Blue Line train + 15 minutes walk from La Salle station). Hotel has a great location on Michigan Avenue just a short distance from Buckingham Memorial Fountain, Art Institute of Chicago, Millenium park, etc. You...

We stayed here the last weekend in December. The hotel is 60ish in style, but met my criteria of reasonably clean and comfortable. We never look for a luxury room as we always come to Chicago to explore our time in the city.

We visited this hotel on a family trip based on trip advisor advice. It was right. We made it cheaper by booking 4 into 1 room. It was much cheaper, but cosy. We had 3 places across the country to visit. The reception staff were friendly and helpful with efficientcheck in / out. The bathroom was small, but how much...

This hotel is in a great location - right across from a beautiful park. The rooms are comfortable with huge windows overlooking the park and Lake Michigan. The staff are very friendly. Only downside was that it cost 50 dollars a day to park your car.

My wife and I stayed at the Essex for 2 nights during May 2014. The staff are friendly and efficient, and it is extremely well located. The main problem is that it seems a bit tired. The air conditioning is so old that it comes with an apology in every room! Only one lift was working in the two days...

My daughter and I had a two-room suite: bedroom with two double beds, sitting room with pull-out sofa. This was perfect for us, since I could get up early, close the door and not worry about disturbing my daughter. The view was spectacular. I did hear the elevator one night, and some loud voices in the middle of the night...
