We booked our room last minute due to a new baby that was born in our family. The staff was accommodating, the location is great, enjoyed the modern finishes and the beds are so comfortable! Will def stay here again.

If you are traveling to Chicago and want a quiet place to stay off the main streets of the city, stay at the Public Hotel. Do not confuse it with the Public House restaurant (many people do). The history in this hotel from the secret tunnels in the basement to the pictures of the celebrities from the 50's and 60's...

This hotel has been recently renovated. The style is amazing, relaxing and relevant. There are two bars, a coffee bar, an outstanding restaurant with an amazing aesthetic. Plenty of space for group meet ups and casual conversations. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The location is convenient for working, shopping and the lake if you want to walk or run.

The hotel building itself is a very cool mix of old and modern, but the service all around was poor. All staff members I encountered seemed brand new - not knowledgeable, not accommodating, inefficient, and inexperienced - but on top of that the attitude and customer service were poor. Will not be returning to PUBLIC for this business trip next...

Pubilic seems to check all the boxes, until you are there. The front desk staff is unresponsive and doesn't help when you ask for it. The Pump Room and Library staff are slow and rude. Very disappointing

Gorgeous hotel! Traveled with kids, so we were unable to enjoy the restaurant or bar, but we will come back. Love the part of town it was in. Close to shopping and dining, but off the beaten path a little, so it wasn't too busy. Loved the simplicity of the decor in the room. Friendly staff and allowed us early...

Fabulous location! Close enough to easily walk toMuchigan Ave., but quiet and away from more touristy areas. Room was incredible quiet, bright and airy. Nice sheets and towels. Downside... while hotel was renovated, shower/tub was incredible awkward to climb into. 2 tiny elevators are in desperate need of new carpet and facelift. No coffee maker in room. Coffee bar downstairs...

Public is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of the Gold Coast neighborhood, which is a part of the city not usually known for hip, upbeat hotels. The rooms, however, make Public stand out from any other hotel in uptown Chicago. Not only are the rooms much larger than usual, but they are appointed with 5 star features like...

stubbs25, Thank you for your kind words and 4 star review. The décor is one of my personal favorite parts of the room- minimal yet still charming. I am glad you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to welcoming you back!

The room was clean and wide enough. The food was really good the staff is really helpful and the music in the lobby was pleasant and various. We stayed in the room 520 which was perfect and quiet enough. Wifi is strong enough to ensure upload of large files. Good spot!

myprivatetrip, Thank you for the kind words and the 5 star review! I am glad you liked the music in the lobby- if you noticed, it changes throughout the day. Mellow in the morning and up-beat in the evening. I am glad you enjoyed your time with us and we look forward to welcoming you back!

frankB1834ZK, Now, that's what we like to hear! We are dangerously close to great food and even better shopping, yet still secluded in the historic Gold Coast neighborhood. We look forward to having you back!

Staying in Gold Coast

Neighbourhood Profile
Gold Coast
Located just north of The Loop, Gold Coast is one of Chicago’s most affluent and popular neighborhoods. The original Playboy, Hugh Hefner, once had a mansion here. In addition to prestigious hotels, historic mansions and luxury high-rise apartments, you’ll also find upscale specialty boutiques and Michelin-starred restaurants. Walk along Oak Street for your shopping fix and dance through the night along Rush Street. The Newberry Library is also a great stop to check out noteworthy exhibits and rare book collections.
