This hotel / mansion has a lot of historical significance and much of the hotel feels preserved that way. Like a trip through time. I would recommend staying here for this reason! It is beautiful and unique and likely better than most hotels in Ecuador.

It gets a four star because as it is an older property and you will feel it in some aspects. For example, the rooms needed electric heaters to heat it because at the time it was built, likely heating was not available other than fire places. Or the bed frames in the room are all different from each other.

I’ve been to properties like this where a complete inside renovation is done to feel modern and luxurious on par with five star hotels while preserving the outside and the historical elements (also much more expensive). This is not that, it is more like preserving the original feel of the property which has a lot of charm. I would definitely recommend this property.

My sister and I stayed at La Cienega for a night last week and it was an amazing experience. The mansion itself is from 1695 and beautifully furnished with original furniture and well kept. Because of COVID we were the only ones staying there that night but the staff went above and beyond to prepare an amazing meal for us and make us feel very welcomed. We especially appreciated Alonso who gave us a tour of the grounds and the gorgeous rooms and views from the top level. We would highly recommend this place to anyone traveling to Cotopaxi! The meals and accommodations are incredible!

When we first pulled up in a rainstorm, we wondered if organ music and lightening would scare us away. A creepy exterior. The staff were dressed impeccably. You could tell they took great pride in their work. The rooms had working fireplaces and sitting areas as well as sleeping areas. The towels were threadbare. The food was mediocre but served with gracious formality. We had a good time and found the history interesting. It’s been in the same family for over 300 years. It was near Coto Poxie National Park which we enjoyed seeing. People who prefer character and historical significance will find that here.

Remarkable and beautiful place to spend a night. Depending on what room you have, some are better facilitated than others, the ones with the hearth are warm and characteristically decorated referring to the rich history of the Hacienda.
When spending an evening in the richly furnished saloon you feel as if time regresses.
The delightful company of the ginger cat and the fantasmas add up to the experience!

My family has been guests for many years, always greeted warmly and enamored by the beauty of the place. In the past few years, there is no longer a sense of hospitality or warmth, they no longer decorate for holidays, and the food is mediocre at best. The guy that manages the place has no social graces and is blatantly racist. When we arrived for our Christmas dinner reservation, he had the gall to tell us he gave priority seating in the nice dining room to foreigners (we’re Ecuadorian American but he assumed we’re just Ecuadorian). While everyone else (no one appeared Ecuadorian) seated was in the main room, he seated us alone in a side room even though the main room had an empty table adequate to hold our party. I strongly recommend they fire the racist manager and bring back the magic that used to be characteristic of La Ciénega.

Arriving at the Hacienda de Ceirnegia and driving down the tree lined drive was like stepping back in time. This gorgeous hotel has been lovingly restored and offers guests a real treat of staying somewhere beautifully ornate but with all the modern luxuries.

From relaxing in the stunning gardens to playing cards in front of an open fire in the Salon de Cotopaxi, out visit was amazing.

The food delicious and the restaurant offers local delicacies and a scrumptious breakfast.

The service is delightful and staff very accommodating.

This is painful for me to write because while I loved the hotel itself, these horses (I assume they are decorative to spruce up the dramatic entrance to the property) are suffering. They are tied to trees and in the 4 days we stayed, they never moved location. My sister in law stayed the week before, noticed the same thing and asked if she could pet them. We both asked to whom the horses belong and were told "we don't know, they do not belong to us". If this is true, it doesn't make sense because clearly they are on the property 24 hours per day.

One horse had wrapped himself around a tree and was unable to move at all. I untangled him. This picture (attached) is of the female horse with her foal. She is clearly starving and was tied to a tree unable to access fresh grass (again, she did not move locations in the 4 days we stayed). I am not sure if her foal is nursing, but it never left her side.

I can only assume these horses are meant to add to the beauty of the property, but please help me remedy this. Again, I spoke with management and voiced my concerns, but this might take some additional pressure as he did not seem to even know who the horses belonged to. Although I'm sure someone must, as the property clearly belongs to La Cienega.

The hotel is lovely and every single member of the staff is top-notch. Sadly, all I took away was the feeling that these animals were suffering in order to make our experience more beautiful.

After driving on a bumpy dirt road, the driver veered through an iron gate and the sight was simply magical. A long alley with incredibly tall eucalyptus trees on both sides and at the end of the road, a mansion which would not shy any Hollywood production.
The hacienda is a very beautiful place with a rich background dating from the late 17th century with beautiful stylish and elegant furniture and a sumptuous garden at its center. Staying at the hacienda throws you back into its history ( which is all over the walls) and make you feel like you are in a movie.
The room I had was very spacious, with a giant bed and a fire place and a large bathroom. The restaurant served a fixed menu where you get to choose between dishes. not too much choice but what I had was tasty,
I warmly recommend this place for business stays and for romantic couples.

What a great feeling to residence - at least for one night - where Alexander von Humbolt and many other historical celebrities stayed. The Hacienda has a very rich history and the immense rooms let you get a glimpse of that era. We felt a bit sad being the only guests - still we enjoyed our delicious meal in front of the huge chimney.

This place was picked by our tour company so we did not necessarily research much beforehand. We are fans of staying in odd places and this one really hit the mark!

It was cold and they lit the fireplace for us and we had a space heater. Since the pandemic has hit and tourism is down, we were the only guests and had the entire hacienda to ourselves. The hotel manger was fantastic and we enjoyed the food. The place has so many interesting rooms and hall ways, be sure to explore!

You are very welcome to enjoy a glass of wine and stroll around the farm seven days a week. Cotopaxi is part of the foundations of the house, so we are doing well under the circumstances, no danger at all and still open. The farm is awaiting for you !!

Hello Paul, you can go to mass at a church 6 minutes away from La Ciénega. There is mass in the morning and in the afternoon! Please let us know any other inquiry you have! Hope to have you with us soon, best regards.
