I really enjoyed my holiday at Matafonua Lodge Foa Island. Snorkelling in a coral garden, kayaking to an uninhabited island, watching the sun set and the full moon rise. Going on a cultural trip. Discerning ancient rock carvings, walking in the bush and finding out about plantations. Seeing whales breach and play. Darren and Nina are great hosts, welcoming, generous.... More

Just returned from a fantastic 5 days at Matafonua, excellent location with helpful, friendly owners and staff, went out of their way to provide vegan friendly food (we prefer to look at the sealife!). Clean but basic bungalows (fales) on the beach front. Excellent scuba diving, snorkelling and a day snorkelling with the humpback whales (expertly done with great consideration... More

Thoroughly enjoyed staying here. Lovely location. Nice fales. Great snorkelling and of course the highlight of the trip - the whales! Good food. Hosts very friendly and make an effort to get to know all their guests and keep them happy. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Absolutely beautiful place to stay with the ocean right on your doorstep! The bungalows were well maintained and the clean bathrooms were only a short walk away. The restaurant serves delicious food, including fresh local seafood, and was open all day. The food was also very reasonably priced. There were lots of activities available that the owners were happy to... More

Absolutely loved it - accommodation is small bungalows right on the waters edge. Shared toilet block and showers just a short walk away. Loved being right on the water - stunning views, so relaxing! You could order food and drink anytime - the food was so delicious - much better than expected!! The location is so remote - there is... More

Everything was lovely, clean, the lodge is right on the beach, swimming and snorkeling and bikeriding were all fantastic. Hammocks everywhere, really helpful staff and just a generally great place! We only stayed two nights but we all wished for longer- only the internal flights stopped us! All the food was delicious, and the fact that when you walk out... More

This is very unique place. Located at a Very exclusive point, where you are in the end of a bay and just opposite the island there is another small unhabitated island perfect for chill out. The simple resort has around 8 bangalôs which has a large double bed, and a extra room with 2 singles. No tvs, no fridges, no... More

Going there, you have to accept that the accommodation is basic - but you don't go there to sit inside your fale! The overall size of the resort makes it feel bespoke and the guests when we were, there were an eclectic mix of interesting people. We went mainly for the diving, which was very good – the resort's own... More

This was our second trip to Matafonua...and it was just as good as the first. Perfect. We love the remoteness of the place - no traffic, no stress, no hassles. Our fale this time was pretty much on the beach. It was clean & air conditioned for free! Mossie nets & coils kept any wee beasties away. The location is... More

We had a wonderful stay at Matafonua Lodge with great hosts and the staff were so helpful and friendly. The food was great and there was always plenty of it including the delicious desserts that were irresistible. The fales were very comfortable and clean and the location was the best. There is plenty to do like bike riding, kayaking, bushwalking,... More
