Highden is historically and architectural a remarkable destination, however the experience of staying there is much like the 1 kilometre long tarsealed driveway ; some parts are smooth and charming , other sections are so badly pot holed that they challenge low suspension systems with the balance repaired with lumps of concrete. We also live in a 115 year old...

My father, nephew and myself had the absolute pleasure of recently staying at Highden Manor Estate, I fortunately stumbled across this treasure when searching for accommodation for a road trip to Wellington from Auckland. In all honesty I originally booked the accommodation for my fathers benefit but to our surprise my nephew and I got just as much out of...

We arrived quite late, and so weren't able to appreciate the manor in the daylight but even so it's a lovely sight coming up to the house, under its spotlights. It's a very old house- beautiful woodwork and antiques in the foyer and in the main reception areas. Our two room suite was lovely and quaint - although the plumbing...

This was the most amazing weekend of our lives. Our wedding was a fairy-tale! Astra and Aurora went above and beyond to make everything perfect for us. My bridesmaids and I stayed the night before the wedding in the highden suit and we set up after the rehearsal on Friday with the help of everyone. Then on Saturday our hair...

Families with young children be aware that there is a pond so covered in algae it looks very like a bowling green. Our seven year old grandaughter jumped off what she thought was a boardwalk onto what she thought was a pretty green lawn. only to be immersed in the algae covered water. A screaming, soaking wet and slimy child...

Hi Stacia, We were very sorry to hear your grand-daughter jumped into the pond. As the pond is a naturally formed pond, with water levels rising and falling with rain water and naturally covered in duck weed, the most we can do is encourage and enforce that children are to be supervised at all times at Highden. Kindest regards, Astra

Great for a one night stop over with a large, spacious comfortable suite. It had it's own bedroom, lounge with tv and bathroom. Everything was antique looking except the tv. The bed was super comfortable and we slept well. We had brought our own food & utensils which made it easier for our dinner and breakfast.

We spent on night at Highden Manor for our 50th Wedding anniversary and also had dinner and breakfast has a package. The old building is wonderful, the diner was very good and we received a personalised menu which was a nice touch, we were the only people dining that night which was a Saturday. The bedroom was delightful but the...

Very disappointed to travel to a nice hotel for Xmas to be told no breakfast despite the booking clearly stating this was available. All guests we spoke to felt the same. All up in the morning and having to find somewhere open on xmas and boxing day to get breakfast - no chance! Nobody about to answer questions, check in...

Hi Andy, As I said in my email response to you, our small boutique hotel was at capacity serving our Christmas Day Lunch. Kitchen staff began work at 6am preparing to serve about 220 guests in a few short hours. The managers live on-site and there is a reception buzzer in the entry that makes us available 24/7. I also...

My family and I attended the 1.30 sitting for christmas lunch at the Manor. We had done our research and it sounded an ideal place to have a relaxing Christmas lunch for the whole family and one that could accommodate our elderly grandfather who is wheelchair bound. Upon arrival at the Manor, we were surprised to see the grounds were...

High expectations from the website, in reality, a disappointing experience. My husband & I booked in advance (we live in Northland) to take my 83 year old mother, who lives locally, out for a 'posh' Christmas lunch. Cost $95 per person plus drinks. My credit card was charged three times for the amount of $290.70. One charge was credited back,...

Hi Christine and Bruce, Apologies for the bank error of your credit card being overcharged. These things happen and it was indeed rectified with no problem. Our busy Christmas lunch always faces the difficulty with the second seating tables not ready as quickly as we would like, as you can imagine guests like to stay as long as they can...
