Hey, this place isn't for everybody but I loved it! Totally old, and has sort of a hostel feel, but surfaces were clean, sheets clean, bathroom clean, carpet clean. The heat was stuck on but I cracked my window and it was perfect. The restaurant/bar downstairs provides romantic energy and was perfect for a drink before I went out and...

This hotel is convenient to a lot of restaurants, the Frank Lloyd Wright tours, Hemingway museum and public transport to down town Chicago. It is very out dated though and in need of renovation. It was very hot during our recent stay but the AC did not work. It was very uncomfortable. Wifi also was unreliable and the TV at...

The Write Inn is good place to stay for Chicago's Architectural Open House festivities the third week in October. I enjoyed visiting with kind staff in lobby (see photo) and adjoining restaurant, Hemingway Bistro. The hotel is under needed renovation. My room had an updated bathroom, and while the wall paper was peeling off there was NO mold and relatively...

They only have 4 parking spaces out front, and with the restaurant downstairs there is usually no parking on site - they do have an arrangement with the city car park however (2 blocks walk, next to the L-Train) which is free to guests. The hotel is pretty old and tired. The lift managed to get us up three floors...

I didn't expect the Ritz given the prices and age of this hotel, but I do expect to not get eaten alive during my stay and to be treated with some respect as a guest. After two night in this hotel (room 314), my arm was covered in bed bug bites, and more began to appear on my legs throughout...

Only one employee on duty at any time. You will never be greeted when you check in. You will be stared at until you speak up. Desk jockeys are rude and specialize in saying "no" and "I don't know". They have no authority to do anything except cover for the so-called manager who is literally never there. The place is...

The Write Inn was a former short term residential hotel. It still feels that way: musty, mildew odors permeate the foyer; the hallways are long, dark and narrow; the carpets worn and the pictures in the room askew and bolted to the walls. If you've seen Ray Milland holed up in his room in "The Lost Weekend," you sort of...

Check in was fine. Parking about three blocks away but free. We stayed on the fourth floor in a "suite." Hodgepodge of furniture and well used. Bed was O.K. Bath was surreal. Six inch step up and all black tile. Large walk in shower but no shower door. Dated sink and stool. Ah but a jacuzzi - but alas it...

The room was clean, but clearly outdated and in need of updating and renovation. The air conditioning was very cold, and the bathroom sufficiently large, but the price was high for the accommodations.

Loved the location. Quaint older hotel. They upgraded us to a large and lovely room with Jacuzzi and great shower. Staff was Eastern European and very friendly. We didn't understand the negative reviews we saw on TripAdvisor. Yes you park 2 blocks away, but that's closer than some big hotel parking lots. And you don't need your car in Oak...
