Artisan Bakehouse is a dream. I’ve been going there for many years for their Christmas wreath making workshops and last week my husband and I had our evening wedding reception there. We rented both cottages and the Shepherds Hut for 4 nights. The accommodation is beautiful; super clean, pretty, spacious and very comfortable. Every little detail has been thought of. The Shepherds Hut is so lovely, everything you want and more. My bridesmaids and I stayed the day before the wedding and made use of the lovely swimming pool. All of our guests commented on the magical venue, food and service. There is not one thing I would change about our wedding day and I just wish I could do it all again there. Les, Louise and the team are the loveliest of people and I would highly recommend everything about Artisan Bakehouse. Go and stay there, you will not regret it x

This was a perfect course in a lovely environment with delicious lunch and snacks. We came away filled with enthusiasm for baking fired by Les and a car filled with the wonderful aroma of freshly baked bread. We so enjoyed meeting our fellow bakers and the lovely team at The Artisan Bakehouse. It was really a special day and the perfect way to mark my sister’s birthday.

My wife and I were very lucky to be part of a Sourdough Bread Making Workshop led by Emmanuel Hadjiandreou, who is quite brilliant. His knowledge and passion for breadmaking is amazing. He is an excellent teacher with loads and loads of experience. He is very patient and very hands-on. The Artisan Bakehouse is a great venue for what Emmanuel, Louise, Leigh and Les do so very well. The workshop course is well structured, and in one day, you get to make a Ciabatta, a White Sourdough Bread, a Rye Sourdough Bread and a Pizza, and very importantly, Emmanuel takes you step-by-step on how to make the sourdough starter through to the final product. It's a great day, informative, and lots of fun. Strongly recommended.

This is a wonderful experience in a beautiful location that I'd recommend to everyone. Les has that exceptional talent of being able to pass on his knowledge and explain the science of breadmaking in ways that are easy to understand. The course is paced to suit the learners on that day, and is lots of fun as well as very informative. You leave with 4 different types of bread that you have created yourself and the results are delicious! Detailed instructions to take away mean the breads can be easily recreated at home after the course. Aside from the teaching, the hospitality is second to none and the homemade lunch and refreshments are excellent, so the whole experience is perfect.

Nestled in the heart of the Sussex countryside lies The Artisan Bakehouse, a real hidden gem. The beautiful setting is a foretaste of what’s to come. On entering this haven of calm Louise and her team are waiting with warm welcomes to greet you. Throughout the day they provided an array of sublime cakes and refreshments. As for lunch made that morning with fresh ingredients accompanied by their own homemade sourdough bread and followed by apple crumble, it was simply delicious! The generosity of the portions matched the generosity of the spirit you find here; which is what I think sets them apart. Having never attempted anything with chocolate before I needn’t have worried. Mike Nobleis not only an amazingly skilled chocolatier he’s also passionate about sharing his love and knowledge with you. He does so in such a way that makes it easy to understand; whether a total novice or someone with more experience it was just so enjoyable. By creating a relaxed atmosphere where he’s on hand all the time to help you never feel out of your depth. I never imagined being able to learn so much in one session; how to make ganache, temper chocolate, hand roll truffles, produce creme caramel truffles and decorate solid chocolate tablets. Yet by the end of the day I had boxes of all these exquisite chocolates gorgeously packaged to take home with me. I didn’t want the day to end. The sense of achievement was immense and the finish really professional. It’s Mikes generosity in everything not just his ingredients and chocolates but of himself and what he want you to feel that stood out for me. I cannot recommend this experience or thank him enough.

My partner and I stayed for a few nights in late August, we were quite taken back at how spotlessly clean and well-kept the shepherds hut was. We absolutely love going for a swim in the swimming pool and then sitting out in front of the open fire all evening. Great value for money with the breakfast included. Will definitely be returning soon.

We recently spent a week in the beautiful bakehouse. The facilities are excellent and the hosts are both extremely welcoming and helpful. We even got to grips with the Aga! There is lots to see and do in the beautiful surroundings and my daughters loved the pool. While there we were all booked in for the introduction to bread making course with Les. What a perfect day from start to finish. The course was well paced, relaxed, informative and we came away with some fantastic loaves of bread and the confidence to continue baking bread at home. I would not hesitate to recommend this place and ensure you try one of the courses to get the best overall experience. Thank you Les and Louise for making our first foray back into normal life after an awful year such a pleasurable one. We will be back.

I have had the most amazing and inspirational day baking bread with Emmanuel and my fellow bakers at the Artisan Bakery. Their hospitality was so generous and warm, it felt like I was on holiday not just a course, the food was delicious…a truly memorable day thank you!

I recently attended a baking for beginners course at the Artisan Bakery. The whole day was a brilliant experience, well organised and informative. Les Nicholson is extremely knowledgeable and able to translate that knowledge to others. He guided us through the process, making bakers of us all. Louise organised the event and could not have been helpful before or on the day. The hospitality was also, first class. I would very much recommend.

We stayed in the gorgeous Shepherd's Hut for 3 nights and had a wonderful time. The hut has everything you could possibly need and the furnishings, bedding, crockery etc was all of the highest specification. Beautifully clean - spotless in fact - throughout, everything looked brand new. We were so cosy and snug in the hut and clever additions (such as folding chairs/table) meant that we had all that we could possibly need. I was able to cook full meals thanks to having a combi microwave and oven, with a double hob too. The bed was a little soft for my liking but that, of course, is a very subjective thing and we did sleep really well throughout :-) The heated swimming pool was a huge hit with my daughter and waking up to nature was glorious. Rabbits and chickens...perfect for children thanks to the sheer amount of space they have to explore and play in. The welcome pack was also very much appreciated and generous - all you could possibly need to start off your break in style. We had a wonderful stay and cannot recommend highly enough. Louise was a wonderful host, giving us great advice about what to see and do in the local area. We can't wait to visit again! :-)
