Yesterday I spent a fabulous day learning how to make bread
Les presented an excellent lesson and I left enthusiastic and confident to be able to make bread at home.
Warm welcome and explanation of the new social distancing measures , hand sanitiser at the entrance to the work area and on every table and a one way system around the bake house. I felt very safe.
Refreshments served throughout the day and a magnificent lunch
I’ll practice what I’ve learnt and am eager to try one of the other bread courses on offer
This is the 3rd course I’ve been on here and loved each one
Thank you so much 😊

We asked The Artisan Bakehouse if they knew anyone who could help us with COVID secure event - they asked us what for and when we said it was for our mother’s funeral straight away they offered help themselves to cater externally outdoors providing a service they have not offered before and all within the rules. They were so kind, generous, thoughtful and flexible. The cost was good value for money and the food excellent, the menu so well thought out and we ate the left overs for the following 4 days!
Also a customer if their tea room openings and never disappointed.
We had called all the local catering firms with only one other being willing to help - highly recommend The Artisan Bakehouse !

Post lockdown class with Mike from Noble and Stace; the day was thoroughly thought out for social distancing, cleanliness, signposting and guidance. We were advised by Louise on arrival of the approach from The Bakehouse to keep guests and themselves safe; as well as us (visitors and the families on holiday). As the kitchen area of the Bakehouse is very cosy, Louise and Les have arranged for a Bake off tent. We were served coffee, lunch and drinks individually, (and as always the lunch and pudding were superb). The class by Mike was a mixture of demonstration (because of distancing) but mostly hands on by ourselves. We had individual tables and all equipment (microwave, hair dryer etc) were for individuals. Louise and Mike had really thoughtfully considered how best to run the day and I can only encourage you to take a day to yourself, go into the wonderful sussex countryside and relax, learn a skill that needs little equipment just space in your kitchen and fridge; the best part you leave refreshed and with a bag of chocolate goodies..........

We had such a lovely, relaxing stay in the Bakers Hut. Louise and Les made us feel so welcome and at home providing delicious home made bread each day, homemade jam, fresh eggs and cookies. We just chilled, swam in the heated pool, sat outside with The fire pit burning, went foraging for blackberries, damsons and apples which we stewed and had with ice cream bought from local village Steyning. For a city couple this was all such a treat, fresh air and local produce. The Shepard hut is very well appointed and comfortable. We didn’t want to leave and will definitely will be back sometime in the future. With the worry of Covid and travelling overseas this staycation was just perfect.

We had an amazing stay in the Bakers Hut. Hosts were incredibly accomodating, provided a selection of lovely treats on arrival and made us feel very welcome. The hut was amazing and we enjoyed sitting in front of the log burner and relaxing. The pool was lovely and warm and there were lots of nice local walks to go on from the bakehouse. Recommendation to visit Grub and Gumption in East Preston when we left ended a lovely stay!

We had a wonderful week staying in the Milkhouse Cottage. Les and Louise are great hosts and made us feel very welcome throughout, and we especially enjoyed the home-made bread. The Cottage itself is the smaller of the two available but has all you need to be self-sufficient, and is very cosy. With 2 young children (1 and 3), it is often challenging to keep them entertained when away from home, but this is not an issue here. They loved the swings, the trampoline and the heated swimming pool (even on the rainy days). They also picked berries, apples and beetroot from the gardens, and had a go at feeding the chickens, which was thrilling for them. And when the kids are entertained, mum and dad can relax!

My wife and I stayed in the Shepherd Hut for 4 nights. Booking process was easy and when I emailed questions about places to eat out, walk or cycle the reply was prompt and turned out to be very useful. Warm greeting on arrival with a lovely welcome pack of goodies we ate during our stay, including fresh eggs from our nearest neighbours the chickens! The hut was roomy and well laid out making it comfortable for a 4 night or even longer stay. Lovely spot under the big trees where we ate breakfast and sat out during our stay making the most of the fine weather. Great swimming pool that was available to guests in timed slots because of Covid social distancing and privacy. However, we and the other guests we met were happy to share slots as the pool still wasn’t busy. Our only regret is lockdown meant no bread making sessions which wasn’t our reason for staying but would have been a nice thing to do. Not that we need one but we now have a reason to go again when we can attend a session. A lovely spot, very helpful hosts, and great accommodation for a relaxed break for two.

We recently had the pleasure of attending a days bread baking course at The Artisan Bakehouse, run by the affable Les. From start to finish the experience was 5 star. Beautiful coffee and delicious home backed cookies to start the day, a well prepared 'classroom' with everything set up for the day, a fun interactive class all learning how to make three breads - including a DELICIOUS pizza that we had for lunch which came with a world class crumble. With bags of bread to take home at the end of the day, the experience continued to bring us pleasure as we stuffed ourselves throughout the week. Amazing experience in an amazing setting run by a wonderful couple. Thank you.

"The Brewhouse has an Aga which I had never used before. Louise was happy to spend time with me teaching the basics and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of cooking in it. However having now sampled their delicious food I will not be cooking myself when we return!"
