One of the major draws in Wayanad is the famous Edakkal Caves. Located towards the summit of the Ambukuthi Hill, not far from Sultan Bathery, these caves are home to a series of remarkable prehistoric rock engravings. The recent discovery of possible linkages with the Indus valley civilization has added new dimensions to the significance of Edakkal. But for all the studies about Edakkal, a lot more about it is still a mystery. The drawing on the caves can be interpreted in many different ways. At each turn, the terrain seems to have its own stories to tell. For a visitor then, Edakkal is a destination like no other. It is in every sense adventure country. And perhaps the best way to immerse you in this unique experience is to book yourself at the Edakkal Hermitage Resort.

This resort is located enroute to Edakkal caves. Location and view from room is excellent. Food quality is descent and always there are two varieties for breakfast. Staff courtesy and behaviour is very good.
What's lacking in the resort
1. Cleanliness. Overall area and rooms need a better quality maintenance and cleaning
2. Response on any request should be faster and many at times it used to be more than an hour
3. Need better lighting around the cottages
4. Cave dinner is a good idea but is very expensive
5. For the price you pay, it looks less value for money and definitely lacking the wow effect

First i got wondered to see such a resort inside edakkal paramater itself. So decided to checkin there itself as that will be helpful for our nextday plan in wayanadu trip. The Hoslitality was awesome amd the rooms are well kelp, maintained and clean. The view of sunset from the resort is amazing. The food was also really good and tasty.
We tried candle light cave dinner which was provided inside a natural cave with 150+ candles. The ambience was awesome and it was ideal for honeymoon couples.

The resort staff was really helpfull and friedly. They arranged us a small trekking for next day morning to ponmudikotta and the sunset view was awesome. All together it was a amazing stay in this resort.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Fabulous location at the foot of the Edakkal Caves. It is set in a forest location, built into the side of the mountain. The view from our double aspect room was amazing and we looked directly out towards the mountain’s opposite. A great place to watch the birds. The accommodation has a home stay, rustic vibe and the team cannot do enough to make you welcome. The food was delicious and plentiful, all homemade and freshly cooked each day. We ate alfresco most evenings with the staff laying our table in various settings around the resort, including in a cave, a candle lit table outside our room and beside a fire pit. They could not have made us feel more welcome! It was excellent, thank you!

Had been here for the cave candlelight dinner that they organise in the natural cave that they have in their property!

We had a very delightful experience, we were welcomed to a cave with 200+ candles lit, which was pleasantly bright and created a beautiful ambiance, the light music made it even better.

Food was served hot and fresh, service was good and fast.

They started with sweet corn soup, they we got gobi and baby corn manchurian alon with green salad

Then for main course we got appam with stew, chapati with dal fry and paneer butter masala, then we were served veg pulao and Kerala special Pal payasam for dessert

This was an amazing and very unique experience, a must try for sure!!!

We drove over an hour to in the night to witness the candle light dinner, it was truly one of the worst experiences we had when it came to the service of the manager and the food.
We paid the amount only and only for the experience and nothing else.
When we were about to leave the restaurant, the manager hid from us to avoid the confrontation of our horrible experience.
Would suggest this place only if you want to witness the candles in the cave and nothing else cause we dint find it worth it.
A simple apology would have made all this go away but…..

This resort is at the base of Edakkal Caves and is located within the Edakkal complex. The resort is lush green and beautiful. Property having private access to the pathway feels like a privilege. Food is great and service praiseworthy. Ranjit and team do a good job of meeting all needs, they even woke up early morning to pack breakfast for us. Thank you so much team, that meant a lot!

Pro tip:
- Some of the rooms are under maintenance so should be ready before peak season. The room allocated to us could do with some maintenance work.
- Avoid if you're allergic or scared of insects, the room had quite a few.

Overall our experience was quite good!

Edakkal Hermitage is a remarkable natural resort that offers a unique experience nestled in the heart of nature. The blend of modern comfort with the serenity of the outdoors makes it an ideal retreat. The cave candlelight dinner was a truly enchanting experience, with the flickering lights creating a magical ambiance. The setting within the cave added an element of adventure to the romantic evening, making it a memorable and charming experience.

I had a very bad exp in this resort.most of the facilities given in the email and site don't exist at all.spending time in this resort is waste of time and money.if you are planning to come to this resort then think again.the resort management is just behind getting the money from customer without giving any good service/facility.

Response from monisha i, Owner at Edakkal Hermitage Resort
Responded Jun 27, 2015
Hi Preethi, At the onset on behalf of the management let me apologise for what seems from your review a rather difficult time you had at our resort. We take a lot of pride in a guest returning home happy and as is rather evident from most of the other reviews is something that we almost always achieve. We are moderately priced for the facilities we offer and alleging that we advertise facilities that do not exist is rather harsh but we respect your point of view and will strive to ensure that we do not overlook any guest inconvenience. We have recently renovated our existing cottage and other facilities and there has been a change in most of the staff involved with the operations as well over the last year.Should you decide to visit us again, we promise to offer you a better experience. Regards Monisha Director Edakkal Hermitage Resort
