How do you write a review about a place you have never been to? You write about the experience you had with the booking. I booked this place months ago through Air BnB. Trevor cancelled our booking after midnight - about 18 hours before we planned to arrive. Apparently there was some kind of water issue that he couldn't fix. I'm not sure why he felt the need to cancel so late at night but I wonder if he was hoping to avoid connecting directly with me? When I reached out to AirBnB they got back to me about an hour later saying he had not contacted them yet. Very disappointing.

We felt this accommodation to be very over-priced for the dingy room we had. It had shabby furniture, face cloths were stained, and the room smelled very stale. The cost was a lot more than listed in the most current guidebook. The bed was relatively comfortable. Had we not been extremely tired we would have cancelled our booking and pressed on.

Bennett Lodge is a meeting place for many of the Newfoundland hunting outfitters to meet their hunters before taking them into camp. It has a nice restaurant and a bar as well. All the rooms have views of the ocean. This is an older hotel and does need some TLC, remember this is mainly a hotel for HUNTERS who stay there either on their way into or out of hunting camp. It is hard to keep things "nice". I'm not saying that hunters don't know how to keep things nice, but for anyone who has hunted or has a husband/father/friend who has, then you know how they look when coming out of the woods. If you are looking for the Waldrof, then no you won't get it here, but when you are cold, dirty and smelly from hunting camp, it has what you need, a place to sleep, a HOT shower and food/beverage available. My husband and I had the "suite" room and our friends had a regular room. Both were clean, well lit, warm and served the purpose we needed, which was a bed and hot shower. The restaurant is open from 8am to 8pm, and serves up 3 nice meals a day.

It's best to start off by acknowledging you're an awfully long way from any other accommodation - north or south. The Northern Peninsula of Newfoundland is by no means heavily travelled and business owners do a fine job even managing to keep things open year-round.
Indeed, the rooms are a little dated, and the bathrooms especially could do with an upgrade, but they're comfortable enough and provide a much-needed stop along the Viking Trail.
The reason I give this place a very good rating is the service. Two reasons: 1) The food is amazing. 2) One night in early fall, three of us pulled in here just after midnight while driving from St. John's to St. Anthony. The fog was far too heavy to travel any faster than 20km/hr and we were exhausted. The lady had already locked up and was walking to her car, but cheerfully turned around, unlocked the hotel and found us a room as we stuttered our thanks.
It's not majestic by any means, but it's a good spot to stay mid-way down the Northern Peninsula coast -- especially when there's moose hanging out causing trouble.

I have to do this review so that others will be spared the anguish of arriving late in the evening and being forced to stay here !!!
We already had a reservation further north, but the Tourist Bureau in Port aux Basques, advised us that it was many hours drive and re-booked us at this Bennett Lodge The outside is a mess with junk lying around. The hallway was filthy. The room was pretty clean due to the diligent staff, who were also very friendly. But it is apparently owned by an MLA I.i e. A government representative. He only cares about the dollars obviously. And. It's not cheap !! Avoid at all costs !!!

This property is poorly maintained. Weeds to the knees. Old mattress propped in hall. Rooms other than carpet clean. Very quiet. Small window to ocean view.Internet did not work. Restaurant closed at 6PM. Tired old hotel.

This is a great basic accommodation. No it's not the most cozy or the most modern but if you need a nice clean, comfortable place to stay on the Northern Peninsula, Bennett Lodge fits the bill. It has a restaurant that's open from 8am to 8pm with a bar in a separate room, the food is good and plentiful and the coffee strong. The staff is friendly and nice and happy to share their knowledge of the area. The motel was also modified so all the rooms are connected by a long hallway meaning you don't have to worry about going outside on your way to breakfast, always a plus in my book!

I would not recommend this place to anyone unless you are completely stranded. It should not be called a motel. Looks as if there's been no upgrade to anything for 30 years (including mattresses, furniture or towels).

$89+tax was way too much for the room we had. Very stale and old, needs a major upgrade. Out room would have had a beautiful view of the ocean if they wouldve just trimmed the bushes in the back. Nice location, has potential.. Just needs a facelift. On a more positive note.. Breakfast was good!

We only stopped for lunch at Bennett Lodge and the toasted turkey sandwich was very nice. The restaurant was a bit on the dark side, except over by the window where there are three booths overlooking the sea. We were told that in June and July you can see Humpback Whales swimming past!
