The stay at uga chena huts was a once in a life time experience. It’s located around such an amazing scenery right next to the beach where you can view the sunset as well as the sunrise if you visit the beach at the correct times. The service provided by the staff was just exceptional. They always had a positive attitude and responded to our needs and wants and catered to them very well. Moreover , the food was another major positive about the stay. The food prepared by the chefs for the meals were just beautifully presented and tasted absolutely amazing. In addition , it was prepared very freshly to maintain the standard of cooking. The overall stay in my opinion is one of the best I’ve ever had because of how much worth their value for money was. Without any doubt in mind , it is one of the best places I would recommend to stay for anyone who would visit yala.

My husband and I stayed here as part of a special trip for my birthday & our anniversary. This was our first safari experience and seeing leopards was amazing and just as memorable as the team at Chena.

Our trip started after quite a long drive from the airport in Colombo. We had the most amazing welcome with the team conducting a ceremony where we placed our country flag into a space on the wall. We had a welcome drink and private check in before being shown to our hut.

The accommodation is stunning. Huge and expansive but yet it was cosy and has character. It was so clean and I was worried it would be hard to keep bugs out but it wasn’t. Our pool was great and we actually had a wild boar come near our hut grazing for food as well as monkeys in our path with the longest tails. The whole area feels like you are close to the game reserve and when you go out on safari you realise why.

There are two safari’s one in the morning and one in the evening. Both offer something different. Both are stunning and we were lucky to have Johnny as an incredible knowledgeable guide. We saw a male and a female leopard as well as elephants (and much much more) which were the main things we wanted to see.

The grounds are well maintained and due to guest numbers no where is crowded it feels so exclusive and when we went over to the main pool we noticed the staff causally come over and switch on the waterfall feature. It’s all inclusive so grabbing a drink by the pool or by the bar which is on the beach was all effortless. The mini bar is well stocked and you even received these delicious biscuits which I had with the alcohol provided in the room. It’s not room service but the team even offered to bring drinks to us.

The team are amazing! The chef even made us lobster off the menu, he just came over to us started chatting and then offered to make us anything we wanted! Talk about service! By the end of our stay it felt like leaving family! We took pictures together and laughed about how much food we had eaten! The food was amazing, so well cooked full of flavour a fusion of Sri Lanka meeting the west.

Tiny improvement would be more premium brands of alcohol but the local spirits are definitely worth a try.
Honestly the entire experience was such a highlight of a life-time. You have to come and we will be back!

A beautiful location and staff well led by Haleem and Kasun. Each and every staff member knew their role well and supported each other to make the guests stay very memorable. The newly built bar overlooking the sea planned by Haleem is a joy to relax and enjoy the view. We were a family of four with my daughter being 21 and son being 14 they both enjoyed this location immensely. The staff were always available looking into our needs. The property consist of 14 individual cabins with an individual pool . The cabin was very spacious for the four of us and had plenty of space to relax. The main pool was amazing. In this pandemic time this was the ideal location to enjoy and relax with very less crowd and plenty of space. The bar was amazing with varieties of beverages and cocktails specially made by this property. Really enjoyed them . The staff was exceptional and looked into our all needs. Haleem led the team always looking at what extra can be done to make the guests happy. We have traveled to Yala many time before but this time it was awesome. We were taken on the safari by Janith who has a tremendous knowledge about surrounding. He was always pointing at animals and areas to explain in detail about them. Our Jeep driver was fondly called "Cheese" and he worked very hard with Janith to make the guests happy and to show animals in the park. They work really well as a team. The Saturday morning safari into Yala was the best as we saw leopards and bears. One bear was just next to our vehicle and at very close proximity. Will never forget this drive and my heartfelt thank you to both Janith and Cheese for making it very memorable. The food was amazing and the chefs always made sure we got what we needed and went out of their way to change the available menus to meet our requirements. The only problem we faced was the parking. As Haleem explained they are used to tourists who travel as groups in busses and did not have the necessity to have large parking areas. But this is being looked into right now and hope this will be sorted out soon. Thank you again to Haleem, Kasun and the staff for taking care of us and making this trip a memorable one. A definite place to return back.

We visited the hotel to celebrate my birthday. Stayed for 2 nights and I was travelling with my husband and our 11 month old baby. So lets start with the welcome and the entrance or the lobby area of Chena Huts. We were welcomed to the hotel by Natal who was very supportive and friendly. He gave us all the information about the hotel and after getting to know that we visited the hotel to celebrate my birthday, Natal made arrangements for us to celebrate my birthday with a sweet surprise- a lovely cake! The lobby area of the hotel is cozy and of course maintained the "jungle and safari" feeling with a minimal decor but with elegant touches to sustain a classy ambience. The restaurant and the bar were also well kept and the rustic look of the furniture in the bar area was just giving a perfect vibe for the hotels' theme. The room was spacious, clean and the bed was large and comfortable. Plus, the pool and the pool deck was clean. The main meals were served in the restaurant but the restaurant staff went out of their way and sent the meals to our room as it was much comfortable for us to have meals in our room with our baby. Yet, we had 2 main meals at the restaurant and the staff at the restaurant were friendly and supportive. I must mention Chef Nuwan, Kusal, Chamara and Sherin who made sure we enjoyed our meals and prepared the food according to our requests. Sherin was helping me with my baby and she was caring about my childs safety at all times. She was making sure my babys food were exactly what he loved and always gave it priority. In addition to that, since the hotel is an all inclusive hotel we tried the finger food, milkshakes, fruit juices and mocktails at the bar and it was refreshing. I wish we were here for our honeymoon, as nothing is more romantic than having a drink on a bar deck while looking at the sunset with the salty sea breeze just bustling towards us when the waves are crashing on the rocks not so far.
I and my husband had a massage at the Spa and Hony was our therapist. She ensured we had a relaxing massage. She was kind and gentle.
We didn't go on safari rides as we were too lazy and it was not easy to go on safaries with my playful little one.
The entire experience of the hotel was superb!
Thank you for making my birthday memorable Chena Huts!

We stayed three nights the whole experience was magical. Undoubtedly this is the best resort in Yala region. Given the exceptional experience I think I have to go each and every element separately.

The room/ hut
It’s luxurious cabin designed with everything that you would need to make yourself super comfortable. The mini bar is complementary and refill every day, with wines and beers. Room comes with a plunge pool with water jets.

The food
Literally everything that we tasted were amazing. The menu is full of fusions which combines the modern European cuisines with Sri Lankan flavors which makes you go wow! Special thanks to chef Sujith and Sanjeewa.

The service
Where do I begin! Initial communication with Shazna, and welcoming us to the resort was absolutely professional and warm.
From the restaurant, Chamara, Thamal, Kusal and Shereen made our every meal a memorable one.
The cocktails were great thanks to super friendly barman Miroshan.
And the rest of the crew Nuwan and Ashka took good care of us.
The team at Chena Huts have secret protocols to clean the room and arrange other services so they wouldn’t bother the guests. Every time when we were out for breakfast or dinner the room get magically cleaned, we haven’t seen who does that. And the whole team knows us and the room!

Tha Safari
We did two Safaris, one in the morning and another one in the evening, our ranger Praveen so knowledgeable and the depth of his knowledge in various spices in Yala region was admirable.
Once he was able to listen to the alarm call by a deer and confirmed there is a Leopard in the vicinity and the deer mush have seen it.

All in all, this is one of the best experiences we have ever had in a five star hotel. I would highly recommend this for anyone who wants to experience the wilderness of Yala to its best.

My husband and I stayed two nights at Chena Huts and we loved every minute of it. The room was large and spacious, the amenities were perfect, the decor was lovely, and the location was so close to the entrance of the Yala National Park, that monkeys, wild boars and buffalo frequented the area near the huts. Besides comfort, which Chena Huts had an abundance of, we always look to food and service when we go on holiday.

The food was well thought of. Not only were all the meals well balanced, but they were delicious. We give our compliments to the chef and his/her team, because they really outdid themselves when it came to flavour.

The service is what my husband and I were most impressed with. From the little chocolates provided during turn down service to the additional water bottles left by housekeeping without being asked because they noticed that we consume more water than the average person, we really appreciated the little touches of hospitality throughout our stay, From the reception, the restaurant and Jayalath, to our Ranger Nuwan who accompanied us on our game drives, everyone asked how we were and they were very accommodating towards any plans we had. We also appreciated the snacks provided during the Game Drives and the romantic dinner planned for our last night.

Thank you, GM Haleem and Team Chena Huts for providing us with a wonderful holiday. We won't hesitate to stay here again.

My husband and I just currently stayed at Uga Chena Huts to celebrate his birthday and to scout the property for future clients.

This beach waterfront property is located near the entrance of Yala National Park, and the minute you arrive you feel immediately relaxed and welcomed. The minute we walked in we were greeted by Shazna, she is the kindest human being and she'll make sure that you are well taken care of.

We choose the all-inclusive stay, which included all meals, game drive, laundry, premium drinks, and an unforgettable sundowner at the beach. All the huts have a plunge pool and a deck where you can relax, read a book and go for a swim.

Our stay at Uga Chena Hut was above every expectation we had, the service is impeccable, the huts are spacious, modern, well decorated and has all the amenities you could possibly want or need. A true luxury stay.

The property is well maintained, clean, the staff are very kind and attentive to your every need, our guide was very passionate and knowledgeable about Yala National Park and the animals.

As Travel agents we’ve stayed in our fair share of hotels around the world, but this was the first time we did not want to leave!

Everything was perfect, showers have good water pressure, beds are comfortable, soft and clean, bath towel are fluffy and absorbing. Every amenity in the hut is of good quality, from the toiletries to the hair dryer, from the coffee machine to the almond butter cookies.

We recommend it 100%. A very pleasurable and unforgettable stay!

Came here as the final stop on an 11 might Sri Lanka trip with my mum and we were blown away. So professional, the reception staff stand every time you enter reception, which had me feeling like the queen! We never once saw anyone service or clean our room, yet it was done every time we went for breakfast and dinner - without fail! We assumed the reception staff were calling the cleaners to do the room as we dined to avoid any inconvenience. The dinner service staff couldn’t be more helpful and remembered everything - orders, preferences etc. A special thank you to Chamara and Shereena in them restaurant. The food was Michelin star standard abs the chef even sourced lobsters for us as a special final
Meal. The Uga spicy martinis are amazing. Our safari guides were so knowledgable and professional. The rooms are top quality and you honestly couldn’t think of anything that was amiss. It will be hard to beat this hotel. I wish I was staying for longer!

We stayed at Chena Huts for two nights as part of a one week trip to Sri Lanka. Chena Huts was by far our most expensive accommodation- at 1200usd per night it is surely not cheap! But, it is absolutely amazing! The Huts are beautifully appointed and service is personalised and outstanding. Meals were generally of high quality though I would expect the barbecue to be on the beach and be more interactive. Seafood bbq was not as rich as I was expecting. The safari rides in Yala Park included in the hotel package were absolutely amazing. All in all, Chena Huts are a must stop for the discerning customer visiting Sri Lanka! Special thanks to Lakshan for his outstanding service.

I think from the moment we came in were taken back by the attentiveness of all the staff, they were more than accommodating in anything we wanted, from the food to the excursions the sun down cocktails everything was perfect.
Something I have not experienced in a hotel in Sri-lanka was that level of detail , the same person served us every day knew what we wanted and built a good relationship with us ( Nalin I think it was )
Even our guide would be the same for all four safaris that was available for us to go ( although we only did two ) as we wanted to spend time in this beautiful place. Kudos to all the staff , Prasad, Nalin, Janith - our guide , are the names I remember. The room was out of this world nestled in the wild we could watch the wildlife pass our room. ( many a wild boar and deer would come to the watering hole ) . All in all an excellent stay and would highly recommend Chena Huts to anyone.

Hi there - Uga Chenna Huts is about 4 1/2 hours from the Bandaranaike International Airport. You will need to arrange a taxi (available @ the airport) to get to the hotel.

They will ask that you put the tip on at the end of your stay to be split among all employees. We also did tip the bartender and a couple other separately and then gave the tip at the end. We had a driver for 10 days so he got a big trip, which we screwed up and had to end up Western Union him the money. Hubs thought I did it, I thought he did. If you want to stop at roadside things you will need to go to an ATM to get money - get the conversion before you go. We took out like a few hundred and could only buy 1 water - had to go back! Everything is very cheap compared to the US. But they want THEIR money, not yours. Only big stores take credit cards and the resorts. Hope this helps.
