I liked almost everything there is about the Continental Hotel. The entire staff was very friendly. We were checked us in quickly and professionally. Our room was spotless and much larger than we expected. The bathroom was also spotless. My wife loved the plush robe. Having a sitting room separate from the bedroom is a very nice feature. I answered "mid range" to the question, "How expensive is this hotel?" If there as a selection between "mid range" and "Luxury" that would have been my choice.
Nice rooms, friendly staff and charming small town setting make this a little gem on the Iowa/Missouri border. It is a much better alternative to a chain hotel and your money is going to support small down revitalization. We have stayed here several time and each stay has been enjoyable. The restaurant is a little hit or miss as we have had both good and bad meals here, but there are alternates within a block of the hotel.
Jus wanted to make a note about the fabulous stay I had at the hotel. The rooms were spotless. Very impressed with the staff and food served. I would recommend this hotel to all people visiting Centerville.
Friendly greeting when we arrived. Large clean and comfortable room. Stayed in Suite 202--the pipes are a problem. Nice to have the full services of the bar and restaurant -- again good food and great service. I will definitely return....when the weather is warmer.
This hotel is picture perfect! Clean, VERY spacious rooms, kind bar & restaurant staff and comfortable bed! We loved our Executive King Suite and wished we could have stayed longer! We would be delighted to stay here again!
The Continental is a charming historic hotel, beautifully appointed, with a great story, located right on the square in Centerville. We stayed in the spacious, lovely decorated Room 204 with a full living room, kitchen and small eating area. The bedroom has a king-sized bed -- mattress and pillows exceptionally comfortable. The bathroom is large and new. Lucille's Steak and Spirits is located within the hotel. We enjoyed both dinner there and breakfast on the patio. Both meals excellent and a wide variety of items from which to select. Don't miss this beautiful hotel and restaurant.
The Continental is a hidden gem in Centerville that has preserved their historic background. Walking in the door I was greeted with a beautifully decorated entrance that opened to the lobby with an amazing staircase that was beautifully decorated for Christmas. If you can you should walk up or down the staircase to see the decorations on every landing. My room was very spacious with a full living room, bedroom and kitchenette. Everything was very clean and kept a bit of the historic nature. I had a room on the front side of the hotel and I was worried about the noise from cars when I went to bed but it didn't bother me. However, if you are a light sleeper I would recommend requesting a room on the back side of the hotel. If you need a hotel in Centerville, I would definitely recommend The Continental! …
We staying in the two room suite. The room was very nice and clean. My only complaint was the VERY loud banging pipes connected to the old radiator system that kept us awake until I bothered (I felt like she was annoyed with me) the front desk lady on the phone to ask about the noise. I turned the valves off on both radiators and they eventually stopped banging. It's an old historical building and I get that, but they were banging so loudly it was shaking the walls. No way anyone could have slept with all of that noise.
Stopped into Lucille’s for a drink. The place was packed with locals and travelers. Sat at the bar and was pleasantly surprised to get a great pour from a friendly bartender. The atmosphere was upbeat and the place looked great. Lilly, the GM was making sure all guests felt welcome and were taken care of. I look forward to my next visit.
This historic hotel has been restored and it is very charming. I believe it was built in the 1800s. The charm is still very much there. They did a great job on the restoration. We had a suite which was very comfortable. The furnishings were very nice, great little kitchen and the bed was comfortable. It is right on the town square so it's in a great location. There is a nice restaurant right in the hotel with very good food so that's convenient. The only downfall ....the Internet is rather slow. Loved the charm of this hotel!
