The continental was clean, friendly, historic and a great place to stay. I will only stay at the continental when I come to visit Centerville. This is the 2nd time I’ve stayed here and the apartment style rooms works best for my family and I. The kitchen is a full kitchen, living room area, 2 bedrooms and 2 full baths. They also have 1 bedroom options as well. The restaurant has delicious food with a wide variety.

Very nice accomidations, very comfortable and convient with an excellent restaurant on the first floor. The hotel is on the largest town square so various shopping is available outside the front door. We stayed in one of the suites which had been modified from the 100 year old original hotel design. The bedroom and the lounge/kitchen was spacious and very comfortable.

Nice linens, clean. Quiet. They could make the grab and go continental breakfast a little more hospitable. Ice is from bar. They keep a very minimal staff and don't serve food on Sunday. Bar does not stay open late. I believe they would be accessible by phone. Town square dying, so plan meals out carefully and proactively. It is an attractive place. No housekeeping but you can request new towels each day. On another stay they had really nice pastries. I am not sure what happened to that. Really pretty bar and tiled floors. Town square has loud drivers Friday and Saturday night, but does not go all night.

Thank you for the review. It sounds like you appreciate the work that goes into keeping something historic and nice in a town as small as ours. On your next booking, please be sure to mention to one of our staff that you'd like a courtyard-view room if you're here over the weekend. And our evening staff is happy to get you a glass of wine or a bottle of beer if the bar is closed and it is before midnight on request if you'd like to take one up to your room.

I have stayed at this hotel a few times for business as there are limited lodging options in the area.
Pros: Rooms have a bed, a bathroom, and a refrigerator.
Cons: Hotel is switching over TVs to internet based - you have to have your own internet TV subscription to watch TV in most rooms. Breakfast is granola bars and pre packaged pastries, nothing hot except sometimes the coffee. On one visit, lights were burned out in my room and the main entry door to my room didn’t latch correctly. When I requested a room change, I was informed that since I had booked through a third party booking site, there was nothing they could do to change my room. There is not desk space in basic room for working if you are there on business. For my last stay, I booked through the hotel site and ended up being charged for some random program that I did not request. Working with my credit card to resolve. It was twice as much as booking via a hotel sourcing site.
Staff are friendly and try to help, but are limited by management. I do not feel safe in this hotel. Buyer beware!

We are sorry you have not enjoyed your stays. We will investigate your concerns, as we take both safety and guest experience very seriously. We are in the process of upgrading all of our room TVs to SmartTVs. These all include a number of free stations that our staff is happy to help you find, in addition to the ability to stream from your favorite apps. In addition to the items mentioned, our complimentary breakfast includes egg and sausage breakfast sandwiches and oatmeal--we are sorry your missed them, and hope we can help you find them if you travel this way again.

Nice rooms, friendly staff and charming small town setting make this a little gem on the Iowa/Missouri border. It is a much better alternative to a chain hotel and your money is going to support small down revitalization. We have stayed here several time and each stay has been enjoyable. The restaurant is a little hit or miss as we have had both good and bad meals here, but there are alternates within a block of the hotel.

The room was nice but there was bugs in the bathroom, great atmosphere and service but when I went to shower there was cockroaches climbing on the towels. Good community and plenty to do around the area. Enjoyed the square and local scenery and eats.

A lovely hotel downtown on the city square. The well decorated rooms are cozy and comfortable. The restaurant has a great menu with lots of variety and the desserts are great. We found the staff friendly and helpful. They were always available and ensured we had a pleasant stay. The shops in town are fun to explore. The reservoir and lake nearby provided opportunities for hiking and nature. I personally recommend you plan a visit to Centerville and stay at the Continental Hotel!

The historic hotel is great. Rooms are up to date and the staff are pleasant and very accommodating. The hotel is located on the square, the main shopping district. There is a restaurant and bar on the main floor. I highly recommend the breaded tenderloin sandwich!

Thank you for your kind review. And especially thank you for calling out our breaded tenderloin sandwich! This Iowa classic has been hand-breaded in our restaurant for 20 years.

Lovely atmosphere and a historic place to boot. Beautiful interior and the room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom and kitchenette were well supplied and the restaurant, Lucile’s was very good as well. Located in the largest continuous town square, the location and surrounding stores were charming.

I liked almost everything there is about the Continental Hotel.
The entire staff was very friendly. We were checked us in quickly and professionally. Our room was spotless and much larger than we expected. The bathroom was also spotless. My wife loved the plush robe. Having a sitting room separate from the bedroom is a very nice feature.
I answered "mid range" to the question, "How expensive is this hotel?" If there as a selection between "mid range" and "Luxury" that would have been my choice.
