Our stay at EcoVenao was all we could ask for and more. The staff was so pleasant and welcoming. The amount of activities available provide a perfect mix of beach and mountain, best of both worlds. The room we stayed in, Beachfront Cabana, was beautiful, very clean and had all the amenities that we needed. I highly recommend doing the hike to the waterfall and the mirador. Overall our stay was excellent and we look forward to going back soon!
The place to stay in Playa Venao! We had a fantastic time in Eco Venao! The staff is Amazing, the location is beautiful, great food, drinks and service! There are many activities available on site (Hiking, Horseback riding, Surfing, and more.) so there is no need to leave the hotel. A magical place to visit & to relax! We stayed at the Beach Cabañas and absolutely loved waking up to the sound of waves. We are definitely coming back for more! The entire experience at Eco Venao was incredible.
Whats better than a surf beach with great people? A venue that respects nature and co-exists with it's surroundings. This is the only venue the monkeys hang out at and the only place the manglers still have a place. And soon enough will be the site of a turtle nursery run by Tortugas de Playa Venao. They have a waterfall too! A sustainable farm! And the best home roasted Panama coffee around with scrumptious deserts. What more can you ask for?
This review is for the hotel + activities on site. Hotel is a 3.5 star but the people, view and activities make it a 4 star. A wonderful location but a 5 hour drive (becomes 7 if police stops you for speeding or if you take breaks). We rented two cabanas by the beach which are small cottage huts on stilts with the view of the ocean and a loft. Each of them can sleep 4 people (2 in the loft where the A/C vent will be situated so it can get cold and you need extra blankets) and 2 on the bottom with huge glass windows that open into the ocean. The climb to the loft is steep and better for teens, tweens or young adults. They have a outdoor shower, indoor shower and a flushable toilet. In Panama, the toilet paper goes into the thrash generally. So don't flush any paper in the toilet in the cabanas. This has about 10 steps to walk to the door so if you have senior citizens, they are better off in the casana houses on top of the mountain which have very comfortable rooms and toilets. The casana (pictures included) is huge on the mountain with a view of the ocean and has 3 bedrooms, kitchen and a living room. One room has a double bed, the other king bed and a walkthrough to another room that has 2 single twin beds connected to the king bed room. The bathrooms have doors that are see through and the room can be locked. They have cleaning service everyday and a kitchen that has utensils, plates etc. Michael was the parmaculture lead who conducted soap making lessons which was amazing. He also did a walkthrough of his honey bees and my mom enjoyed this class a lot. They also have horse riding in addition to access to surf dojo for surfing lessons. There is also a beautiful hike to a waterfall onsite of this property cascada trail. The office is open until 8 pm daily and panga restaurant is open for dinner onsite.…
For me, this was 5 of 5 but.... if you are someone that likes well oiled/ smooth running chain resorts, this isn’t for you. They are on beach Panama time, so it’s even a little slower than Panama time (which makes an IHOP in West Virginia look speedy). Everyone here is super nice, polite and they work hard, it’s just Panama time (and your at the beach.... so only go here if you want to disconnect). Room- we had one of the beach Cabanas and it was awesome. It’s rustic, so just make sure you are good with Rustic. No bugs but it lives up to the Eco name (AC and Hot water so i was happy). I’ve stayed in a $1200 Bora Bora villa and this wasn’t that but....value for money was WAY better. My wife and i high fives as we walked out. Ocean waves all night, and a little beach bar Labarca (with a freakin amazing burger). The beach is super safe and filled with families and adults. With did the Eco horseback ride (it was only $20 per person!!!) and it was beyond amazing. If you aren’t comfortable on a horse or with heights skip this one, but if you are good with that you nuts to skip it. Panga is the restaurant on the property that’s farm to table and as good as anything you will find anywhere in the world. For me Venao exceeded expectations. Eco Venao was quiet and chill but all we did was walk down towards Selina and EL Sitio (I think that was the name) for some house music and more drinking. …
This place is worth staying in for the the grounds and the location. It’s a very special environment with all the beautiful trees and flowers around and the visits from the howler monkeys. The hostel accommodation is good - the bed is comfy and the shared kitchen is good and always clean. The bathrooms could use a bit of updating - the handles on some of the doors need replacing and one sink for everyone is a not a lot and it’s a bit gross no soap is provided. The WiFi is super poor and as the other hostels and restaurants in the area are all able to provide it some improvement is needed.
We came as a family of 4. Really nice place with accommodation for every budget. Single beds in the dorm or huge family houses for many people. We were upgrated for free to a bigger house as it was available. The young staff lady absolutely nice. As European I loved the in the middle of the tropical wood experience. Everything absolutely eco friendly and clean.
I don't know where to begin.. first, rwe had booked a cabin in the woods to get the full experience in nature, but upon arrival they told us it wasn't available(apparently they had demolished it already) and we were booked for a room in the main hostel. There was no email or any sort of communication prior to arrival to let us know of this and give us the option to agree to this change or change our plans. We took the room since it was last minute of course. We were told that the wifi wasn't working because there was a problem in the area not just our hotel, which turned out to be a lie. We went to a neighboring hotel for drinks and their wifi was working just fine. We were also told that breakfast is included and when we asked about coupons etc he said we don't need them. Our room was not sealed and we slept with thousands of moths flying around. They had screens on the windows but gaps in the ceiling. I wouldn't have minded had it been for the initial booked cabin in the woods, but this was at the complex. The restrooms and showers are shared, but are old and dirty. They need to be renovated and cleaned more often. Thankfully, we had our own wipes and were able to clean them a bit. Next morning around 9ish we went to the cafe to have the promised breakfast, but the guy asked us for coupons and wouldn't give us anything without them. Fair enough, but there was nobody at the reception that was supposed to be open at 8am to help us sort it out. We asked if he could call them and he said they might be busy and he doesn't want to disturb them! Come back later for food..which was awful and rude. Later we were told that there was a misunderstanding and bfast isn't included, when he had clearly told us otherwise. Overall, awful customer service and lying and rude employees made for an awful experience. We couldn't wait to get out of there! Spent most of our time at a nearby hotel called Selina's. I highly recommend that one! It will be my choice next time. My friend is local Panamanian and is livid with the treatment we received.…
We've stayed here twice, in very different lodgings and had a very interesting time. Our first visit, we stayed in a private cabin up the road near the rear of this beautiful compound. Up the trail behind us, were monkeys in the trees. Across the road, on the beach they offer even more rooms. They have a great little surf dojo there that offers surf lessons and a beautiful spot to enjoy the amazing waters of Playa Venao. In the heart of the grounds is a huge bunkhouse that has a dorm room of beds, usually filled with young surfers staying from weeks, to months, some ever longer. These surfers come from all over the world. Our second visit, we actually stayed in a smaller room in the bunkhouse. It was not nearly as private or as comfortable as the cabins, but walking around the building in the rain to our shared toilet and shower was a true challenge for my old worn out body, but I'd do it again if the private cabins were full. The resturant on the premises was perfect. We enjoyed whole fried fish that was delightful. They also have an open kitchen for guests and after a day of catching tuna on a boat in Pedasi, we cooked several times for ourseles and the resident gueasts as well. What a fun place to be.…
If you want secluded paradise with minimal amenities but a fabulous time, look no further. They feature quaint bungalows with A/C, a nice thatched roof dining facility with an excellent chef. The beach features a great boat shaped bar, with bartender named Freddy, makes and exquisite fresh margarita. Not too many people, quiet and no one bothers you. Nice waves, but not stupid big. Lots of beach to walk and enjoy. I could have stayed for a month; easy.
