Marthen s homestay is in the small village Tarimbang, about 5 minutes walk from beautiful beach with a great wave. The place is on the end of the road, there is not so much civilization around, not even service, which I loved. Before our trip I tried to contact Marthen but only got to speak with his daughter that couldn't...

Marthen has shown truly sumba's hospitality despite of the remoteness of this location. His warming heart is the best asset for his hostel. You can order variety of foods, and he did'n mind to serve it as per your order, even its not on the menu.

I've had the immense pleasure of staying at Pak Marthen's homestay twice in the past two years, both times with a small group of friends. When travelling in Sumba, it's always important to manage your expectations, particularly if you're accustomed to Bali resorts. As Pak Marthen says himself, this is a surf camp and not a resort. Each room is...

Sumba is a wild and wooly place, and Tarimbang is no different. The beach is absolutely stunning, a giant bay with a really good wave to surf. When it was small, I snorkeled and saw some beautiful coral formations. But boy, it's in the middle of nowhere. It took three hours to get there and once you are there, you...

Don't expect a 5-star accommodation with spring beds & AC, but expect a very heart warming service coming from Pak Marthen, the owner -- a local, and staff. Each bungalow is either with one bed or big bed. Bathroom is outside, sharing with others. Electricity is limited as he uses generator. Marthen's Homestay is one of 2 places to stay...

Well I didn't go to surf but just hang out in a beautiful location. That it is. Marthens is simple & so it should be, unless you want to build a 5 star resort in the midst of a sleepy friendly village. Food is great, the bay is awesome, accommodation simple and quite cool in the wee hours. It's a...

Didn't expect what I found during my visit last week (earlier reviews were quite good). Then I realized that I'm not a surfer..that's probably why I was dissapointed. Despite of his super hospitable manner, I told Marthen I didn't appreciate the unattended garden, leaked huts, gecko invested common shower, generator powered electricity, lack of internet, lack of mobile coverage, no...

The best place to stay if you are going tarimbang, huge consistent waves, easily 4ft+ on a bad day, beautiful beach as well with clean clear water. Marthen himself is the kindest guy you can meet. He picked us up from Waingapu but he's said he can pick people up from tambulaka as well (just be sure to leave him...
