My buddy and I drove to Gold River for the 15 minute float plane ride to the lodge. As our Cessna 180 approached the dock it was evident from the very beginning how well organized the lodge’s staff were, assisting with docking, removal of passengers and gear from the aircraft, introductions by lodge owner Tim CYR, a quick tour of the lodge en route to our rooms, and then an already prepared lunch with refreshments in the lounge! We were issued rain gear (not even used in the hot sunny cloudless weather we had during our 3 day stay) and relaxed all afternoon before a 5PM supper and then a quick trip to the fishing grounds. Each morning all guests were woken at exactly 4:45 AM by a knock on the door and a 5AM hearty breakfast. On the water by 5:30AM and already fishing 15 minutes later. In summary, all meals were to die for; ALL staff including dock, guides, kitchen and dining room, management, - everyone- were always smiling and pleasant and willing to help you with anything. Right down to the final send off by Tim and staff, we were definitely pampered, and felt honoured to be treated so well. And to top it off we went home with our limits in Chinook salmon ( 4 each), plus some halibut and lingcod fillets. Tim’s 27 foot foot cruiser with twin 200HP Yamaha outboards and 10HP kicker ( along with our excellent professional guide Ronnie) made for a very comfortable fishing experience for us two old retired farts, hahaha! A wonderful trip. Thank you, Tim. -Ian.

It was an amazing place to visit, explore and fish. The food was plentiful- you never go hungry. They served top-notch meals and the cookies are to die for. We had #nootka warrior- Wayne as our guide and he took this trip to the next level. We felt honoured to have him as our guide. If your looking for a once and a life time experience this truly is the place. From the float plane in, with Air Nootka to the hospitality and the fishing it really is a dream come true. I would recommend this lodge to anyone and will one day hopefully return.

This family-owned fishing camp has such a great vibe and its location is so beautiful - set on a wild, west coast island, only a 15-minute float plane away from Gold River, Vancouver Island. The flight is gorgeous and we were fortunate to have perfect weather coming and going. We were met at dockside by the owner, Tim Cyr, who has such a sense of humor and it goes on from there. Food was hearty and well-prepared, dining room simply furnished, and the lounge was lovely with a wood-burning fireplace and lots of room to spread out. We appreciated the fridge for guest use. Accommodation is simple and unadorned. Beds were comfortable and the room contained enough closet space for me and my husband. Bathrooms were shared which fits the spirit of the camp. The younger helpers there, Madison, Raya, Connor and Jared, worked hard and were sweet-natured and kind.

Our fishing guide had 26 years' experience and his boat was immaculate. He made fishing a pure pleasure and we were so delighted to catch our limit of Chinook/spring salmon. Fishing grounds were just 10 minutes away and the water so smooth for fishing. We had a variety of weather, rain and sun, but it all worked out to our satisfaction. fishing on the open ocean for halibut was more work than we expected, but we enjoyed all the grey and humpback whales that swam all around us that morning. We had our fill of wildlife every morning - from bears coming down to eat starfish at water's edge to eagles, sea lion, otters, seals and even a kingfisher darting by. The scenery is so British Columbia. This was a real Canadian adventure and we intend to do this again next year.

August the 8-2017 our engine broke down ,we where able to bring it in with our 9 horse kicker, when we arrived we asked for fuel but were told "we don't sell fuel" but a little talking and they sold us 50 liters for a outrageous price, i had to use the washroom badly but was told they where for guest and not for me to use!! Then after a call to our resort we where told to get into the boat and leave the dock and head out and the owner was going to call the coast guard so they could find us in the open water and give us a tow to our resort. Good thing the fog did not roll in . We where very disappointed with their attitude and service for people in distress !! Never will i go there again !! Tijmen.

This was a perfect example of people that are clueless and the Pacific Ocean. They show up at are dock with a boat that is broke down and overloaded with passengers and NO safety gear, not even a VHF radio. These people had no business operating a boat and had NO business being on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. YES I was short and rude, but they are still alive. This moron even had the gull to phone me and complain how we treated him and his group. They are lucky to be alive and they are not welcome in Nootka.

Incredible scenery, Amazing staff and overall Top Notch experience.

My son and I decided to book a 3 day 2 night trip with Nootka Island Lodge. The trip started with a nice 20 minute flight into the lodge on a float plane. Pretty amazing scenery on this short flight. They ask that you pack light and bring a max of 25 pounds of luggage. Really this is plenty of luggage for a 3 day trip as the lodge supplies rubber boots, rain pants and jackets for fishing. When you see how many pounds of fish you bring home you bring home you soon realize why there is weight restrictions on the plane. Just for an idea we brought 3 cooler boxes full of ling cod, salmon and halibut fillets home. It ads up.

Arriving at the lodge you are met by the lodge owner Tim Cyr and his crew. Everything is explained clearly and off you go to settle into your rooms. The lodge is very comfortable. Remember this is a fishing lodge and not the snooty posh downtown hotel. The rooms are basic but clean and very tidy. There are mens and ladies washrooms with showers. Plenty of hot water and fresh towels for a good wash up after fishing. The lodge has a nice lounge area and deck for enjoying cocktails. The view from the lodge is pretty amazing.

Lets skip to the main event. Fishing. Our guide for this trip was Mike (The Codfather). I am a very avid fisherman and have been told that I am very critical of guides and other fisherman. I have to say I had nothing to be critical of with The Codfather. This man has earned this title and does an amazing job. My son and I both agreed that this was the best bottom fishing we had ever experienced. The Codfather had us our limit of bottom fish in no time flat and then off we went to the salmon grounds to load up on salmon. Mikes boat is top notch. All up to date electronics and gear. Exceptionally clean boat and gear and a cooler full of water, juice and pop. This guide gets tops reviews from both my son and I.

Meals and lodge staff. If you leave this place hungry it is your own fault. There seems to always be some sort of snack or meal in front of you. The chefs and the lodge servers are very friendly and if you need anything it is done for you in an instant. Your mornings will start with a good solid breakfast before heading out to the fishing grounds. A hearty bowl of homemade soup and sandwich awaits your return from fishing at lunch. Before heading out for your evening fishing you sit down to a very hearty and delicious dinner. Our favorite was the prime rib and yorkshire dinner. After your evening fish you return to the lodge to relax and have a few cocktails and again more awesome food. The loaded nachos were great.

In todays world it seems that good polite customer service is hard to find. This kitchen crew and staff were always smiling and polite. This was so refreshing to see.

Summary. Clean facility, great food, amazing staff, world class scenery, top notch guide.

People of note. Mike (The Codfather) taught us tons and gave us tons of memories to last a lifetime Top Notch guide. Tim Cyr the owner of the lodge was always making sure everything was up to our expectations and made us feel very welcome. Joe on the dock was always very helpful and smiling. Matt Cyr was a wealth of info and took the time share fish stories and knowledge with my son and I.

To me, customer service is the # 1 deal breaker or maker in returning to any resort or adventure vacation. This place scores #1 in customer service.
We went at the end of a very long and busy season and yet the staff were all on top of their game.
The cooks are the "Stars" of the Lodge, and characters worth getting to know. They take pride in everything they do, ask them about their charity work, true humanitarians!
The accommodations are great-on the fishing lodge scale in a wilderness setting. Shared bathrooms, smaller rooms, limited storage space, pack light, very good beds.
The lodge and grounds are immaculate and everywhere has an incredible view.
The wildlife is breathtaking, whales, porpoise, sea lions, otters, eagles, bears, and wolves. All seen from the boats while fishing or they can arrange a trip for viewing.
You don't need to bring much, rain and fishing gear is provided, you will need to BYOB.
The float plane trip in is less than 20 minutes and almost that alone was worth the trip.
The Guides were pro, the lodge's boat was in "less than prime" shape, but the contractor boats were top notch. The fishing spots (16 in total) were close to the lodge so no 2-hour trips to get fish!!! No luck with the halibut or cod (only spent half a day) but the 4 of us came back with 150 lbs of salmon fillets. The filleted and vacuum packed service is inexpensive and well worth it.

This is a very well run operation, you know it is good when all the float plane pilots in Gold River comment on the efficiency of the operation and they rave about all the happy faces that always come back from Nootka Island Lodge!
Not expensive for what you get, bottom line...
I will be back.

Nootka Island lodge is located in one of the most beautiful places on the West Coast. The owner Tim Cyr greets you at the dock as you arrive by seaplane. From there on the service, lodge, food and of course fishing! is outstanding. I was there with my son Erik, father and son weekend and we were not disappointed.
Our guide was Bill (don't know his last name) and in two days we caught our limit on Chinook Salmon. He was a great guide. This was one of the best trips of our life and we hope to return.

Just spent four days and three nights at Nootka Island lodge. The fishing was very good and the help provided by the staff was exceptional. We brought our own boat and the boat captains all helped us with gear techniques and where to go. The staff treated us like family and made us feel at home with everything. This is our second time at the lodge and we will be back for sure. Thanks to all the staff for everything they did for us.

My friend and I went here for a salmon fishing trip in Sept. We have gone many times before to various locations , but this was our first time to this part of the coast.
The float plane trip in was fun and we received a warm greeting as soon as we got to the Lodge.
The food we were served was excellent. The rooms were comfortable.
The boats were a bit of a mix, some had nice canopies and some did not. Unfortunately ours did not which made it a bit unpleasant as it poured rain while we were there.
Our guide worked hard to catch fish but they just were not biting. We ended up going home with just one fish!
