Canto Leela is located in the Brazilian state of Bahia and run by two dedicated families that also live at the location. Situated on the Cocoa Coast, a protected area, Canto Leela was built in harmony with nature on one of Brazil’s beautiful white sand beaches by the Atlantic Ocean, surrounded by coconut trees, against the backdrop of the tropical rain forest. Our beach-front facilities include 5 charming rustic chalets built in Indonesian style, 2 with capacity for two guests and three for families with children. We have a dining area where our guests are served delicious natural and healthy meals, and our bar prepares the famous Brazilian caipirinha as well as other international cocktails. You will also be able to enjoy our chlorine-free natural swimming pool by the beach – maintained using only natural filtering methods– or simply rest in a hammock drinking coconut water fresh from the tree, enjoying the atmosphere.

Canto Leela is an unforgettable experience. We stayed there for 7 nights (myself, my wife and our 2yo boy) and it was great from booking to check out.

The balinese-style bungalow is very comfortable and is just like the pics from the website. Comfy mattress, very clean, towels and linen smell so great (this was a common review from other guests and it’s definitely true), aside from the location (30m from the gorgeous Serra Grande beach).

The breakfast offers freshly made tapiocas, local fruits etc. simple and delicious (Angelica and Alex were fantastic in accommodating our request - sincere thanks).

No lunch offered (they do have appetizers along the day and we knew that in advance, so no issue here - just a note for family trips as we did have to get lunch outside a few days: not a problem as it allowed us to visit some other places in the surroundings... see my reviews of Cabana Pe de Serra, Cabana da Empada and Toca da Tapioca).

There is a natural pool built by Niv (the owner and chef), great for relaxing after the beach... it’s really NATURAL with fish, plants etc. feels great!

Niv cooks thematic dinners every night: we had the local Muqueca one night, French the other night... there was also sushi/asian night and others but we went out to check on other restaurants. The other guests who were there those nights pretty much indicated that it was great overall. Each night had entrees, salad, main course and dessert: super good!

Silvina and Karen, the owners, are truly great hosts and made us feel at home throughout our stay. Thanks also to Fabiano for all the tips and for taking care of the garden and premises.

Serra Grande is a special place with special people. Enjoy with consciousness.

Canto Leela is a very special place. Lovely bungalows just steps from one of the most beautiful beaches you'll ever see. The area is quiet and not super touristy. Keren and Niv are wonderful hosts, and the great vibe is from them as much as from the natural beauty of the place. Niv is an amazing chef!

We spent there 3 nights in the small house and it was like being in paradise. Things are very simple but in the good way: good home food, clean rooms without unnecessary furniture, etc.. Owners and staff are very friendly. Being so close to the beach is just amazing. We wish we had stayed there a bit longer. We will definitely come back!!

As soon as the user arrives at the resort, they immediately realize that the place was grand and magnificent in the past, but due to the lack of hotel skills of the current owners/managers (who are very educated, but have no professional vocation for the hotel segment) they are getting lost in the time. The rooms lack maintenance, external lights are burnt out, internet routers are mostly defective, the swimming pool (even with alternative treatment) lacks maintenance, as the paintwork is coming off, the customer service infrastructure closes at 3pm, leaving the guest at Luckily, since the hotel is not close to any restaurant, speaking of restaurants, on the days we stayed, the food took around 2h to 4h to be ready. As it is sand-based, there are two boards (which appear to have been left there by previous guests), broken, and one with a splinter sticking out that cut one of the children's legs. She keeps a basket of toys that looks like a lost and found basket, with headless dolls, torn magazines, a game of checkers and missing dominoes. In other words, go for the location, which is unique, honestly, among the beach, location, quantity and type of beach goers, one of the best hotels I've had the pleasure of staying at. But it's not worth half the price charged. Either they improve the infrastructure to match the price or they reduce the value to adjust to the service offered. But I repeat, the owners/managers are top quality, they just need to hire a hotel technician to be the manager and they reserve the role of owners. Problem solved.

I gave only one star to the hotel not because of the accommodations, which are relatively good, in addition to being in a pretty nice location, but because of the manager, named Alexandre, who proved to be a cold and truculenta person, without any empathy or respect for people.
We were, my wife and I, staying in the hostel next to Canto Leela, called Space Time. As our reservation ended, we decided that we would like to stay two more days in the area, but with two of our grandchildren, who were staying in a hotel in the village, because their mother could not extend their leave at work. There we closed two days in Canto Leela, a chalet for us four.
There was another son of ours, on a journey and also staying with the family (wife and 3 daughters) in the village of Sargi. On January 4, 2025, this son came to stay with us on the beach in front of Canto Leela and have lunch there. The manager Alexandre released the entrance of the car and after we were on the beach he came to talk saying that we would need to pay 250 reais per person, or 1.250 reais to the family, as a Day-Use, so that they can stay in the sand bar and use the hotel facilities.
Surprised, we argued that they did not intend to use the facilities, which in the case would be the beach chairs, sunshine and shower. Disconformed, he replied, then saying that he would not allow them to stay in the sand strip (after the hotel fence) and even that my son's car occupied the parking lot.
I said we would take out the car and park on the road, after the access gate to the hotel parking lot, but that we would stay in the sand strip. Unsatisfied, he created a new obstacle, then saying that he would not allow my son and his family to cross the property to get to the car when they were gone. He said that for that, he would lock the gate to the beach.
I did everything to avoid confrontation, even in respect of the other guests, but the manager was not worried about it, adding even if it were the case would call the police. In the end, humiliated, my son was forced to retreat and, at my request, he no longer addressed that person.
Me and my wife said we would never stay there again, in what the manager gave with the shoulders, making little respect. We had never been mistreated as we were in any hotel or hostel during the decades we traveled.
Then such a manager came to apologize hypocritically, saying that he did all this because he obeyed the orders of the owner and that, if it was for him, I would release the presence of my son and his family. I told him that it was not possible that the owner had that vision, but he replied claiming that with her things would be much worse, because “she was very boring,” or something like that.
However, the next day, I talked to the owner, Mrs. DĂ©bora (a super kind person) and she was surprised and very embarrassed when I told what happened. He apologized and said he'd talk to the manager. I suggested that he take a human relations course to know how to handle conflicting situations like this and respect people, especially the elderly like us.
I was totally discouraged with everything and at the time of the discussion my wish was to leave that place, even having paid for the accommodation until the next day. I didn't do it because of my grandchildren.
On the day of the check-out, we took our coffee and left, much before the scheduled time to unlock the chalet. I didn’t even want to appreciate that landscape for the last time before traveling the more than 1,300 km to our home in Brasília.
