Detailed Reviews
On the Kentucky River so very scenic and peaceful. Park was totally full as there are many permanent renters living there. Sites are back-in and close together. The staff is wonderful and friendly and will help you get backed in and set up. Also the other campers are very nice. With all of the people there, the park is actually quite peaceful. Nice showers and restrooms. The checkout time was a bit later than most at 12:00 which we liked.
Very convenient location to Bourbon Trail and Horse Park and many other things to see and do in Frankfort. Buffalo Trace Distillery (free) is a must see. Totally dog friendly..in fact they insist. Dogs are welcome on the tours and the tastings. Four Roses is another really nice inexpensive tour and tasting. Beautiful bourbon glasses in included. Would recommend not going in the summer as everything is so crowded most tours are full. We went again in the winter and no problem getting in to anything. Our "public" tour of the Capitol turned out to be private. A beautiful interesting tour.

Campground was a small almost community like place. It was very clean but what made it better was the people. The staff was super friendly and out neighbors whom have a permanent spot there were soooooo nice. They even stopped by one morning and asked if we had any trash they could throw away with theirs. We camp very frequently and you that's not very common. They offered us tips for our Bourbon Trail adventures and invited us to use their deck overlooking the Kentucky River.

I camped in a tent for one night at Kentucky River Camp Grounds and I had a really positive experience.
The office staff welcomed me, showed me to my site (which was close to the rest room -- something I'd asked for when I made the reservation), and then went back to the office to retrieve the bag of ice I'd paid for but forgotten to pick up to save me the walk.
The women's room that served the tent camping area had a flush toilet with electric lights--a whole lot better than a pit toilet. The shower house wasn't fancy, but it was clean.
The only downside was that the campground was quite a distance from the interstate highway so it was a bit of a detour.

Coming down the road to the camp ground we wondered where we’re headed. But as soon as we arrived felt like home. A welcoming party at the office everyone was so nice. Neighbors helped us back in. Was only going to stay a day. But we stayed two. Did I say how nice everyone is.

Really nice campground. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Angie in the office is awesome. Family friendly, lots of stuff for kids to do. Only drawback is the sites are super close. We were lucky to be on the end with a river view.

Campers are literally so close that one's awning lacked touching the next camper by inches. You're back to back so close that if you both had windows open you could reach out and hand something to the next camper. We came in on a Friday night and were not able to get the spot we had reserved because 5 vehicles would have to be moved to get us in there. Next to the concrete pad was a little community building. Saturday morning as we sat on the concrete pad our morning conversation was interrupted by loud music from that building. It went on for hours. I felt like a trapped sardine listening to a bad version of Toby Keith. We tried walking over to the river for some peace, but we could still hear the music. Finally I asked, and the office manager agreed, to give us a refund. We left and won't ever go back! I wish I would've taken pictures to show you what we experienced.

I was not familiar with The Kentucky River Camp Grounds before we got there. I found it online due to its location to the Bourbon Trail. It was the perfect place for us to set up camp for a few nights. We met the nicest people! The Office and Campground staff were SO wonderful and everyone on site (most of them were weekenders in RVs not just campers) were really lovely. They included us like we had been coming there for years rather than just people passing through. The campsites are a little small. This is not a tent-camping campground for the most part, but they are right along the river, back up to woods, and a close to the bathrooms. The bathrooms were REALLY clean (which can always be an issue) and always easily accessible. I felt like we were in the perfect spot. It was a great location for us to hit a few of the bourbon distilleries as well. I could not be happier and we will absolutely go back.

We had reserved a tent site a few weeks ahead. The day we came it had been raining so all the tent sites were completely soaked. We asked the manager since they didn’t have a dry tent site that could we stay on a RV site she was very rude and made us pay extra for a dry RV site. There was a covered pavilion near by that we wanted to know if we could use for our tent as no one else was using it and it was supposed to storm that night. She absolutely refused. It ended up thundering and lightening so bad and pouring rain with a tornado warning that was had to take cover under the shelter. Of course by then everything was soaked and a mess. The lady never apologized even though she knew we were endangered by her lack of customer service.
However the maintenance man was very kind and apologized for her.

My husband and I booked a site here with friends for July 4th weekend so we could kayak the Elkhorn Creek. From the moment we arrived the place was full of activity. The campground reminded me of a small almost community like place. The grounds were clean but what made it better were the people. The staff was super friendly from the moment we arrived and the other campers (who have permanent spots there), were just as friendly and accommodating. They quickly jumped in to help with some of our pop-up camper mishaps upon setup and even offered to let us use their deck overlooking the Kentucky River. Because of the holiday weekend, the campground had a live band, karaoke, free pancake breakfast and tons of other on-going activities throughout the weekend. We definitely felt as if we got our monies worth! The only thing I would caution others looking at this campground would be the overall campground setup. Campers are literally so close that one's awning lacked touching the next camper by inches. Most of the campers in this campground are Class A's so it was a VERY TIGHT fit between spots. Often times, I could look into my neighbors camper and see what they were eating for dinner or watching on their satellite TV's. Also there was no fire ring!? We had to ask for one, because who camps without a fire? Lastly, being a person who insists on a certain quality of restroom facilities when camping - I was not a big fan of theirs. Being a family owned place I was expecting the facilities to be a bit cleaner than what they were. It appeared that the women's restroom had not been cleaned for the 3 days we stayed there, so I was kinda' disappointed. Overall KRC was a fun place to stay and will but could use a bit more TLC in certain areas. We will most likely be back.
