Sedgebrook Hall captivates many with its historical charm, featuring well-designed rooms and lovely meeting spaces that create a delightful atmosphere. While the amenities are generally satisfactory, some guests note the need for improvements in the gym and spa. Opinions on the rooms are split, with some describing them as comfortable yet others mentioning a need for refurbishment.
Cleanliness is often commended, though the gym's upkeep has been criticized. The hotel's tranquil location is a highlight, but the value proposition is challenged by less-than-impressive dining options and inconsistent service quality.

Detailed Reviews
Stayed here on a nights visit at the end of October for a birthday get away for the night. I bought this as a package deal from a website, so I wasn't expecting 5 star hotel, just somewhere nice to get away for the night.
Let's start with positives, the hotel has had a refurb so the whole place feels bright and airy with a modern feel. The room was a nice size and really nicely decorated. The staff were also lovely and welcoming. I used the pool/jacuzzi and gym facilities, which weren't as modern as the rest of the hotel but was adequate.
The negatives were as follows, when I checked in I was told the incorrect time for breakfast the next day. I was told it finishes at 10am however when I arrived at 9:30am the next morning I was told breakfast had finished and they had started packing everything away. Admittedly I was asked if I would like anything cold, but this wasn't what I had expected and didn't want something cold. Breakfast was part of the package offering so it's a shame I didn't get that.
Also the package included 20% off drinks when purchasing a meal. I didn't receive this when we had drinks with our dinner on the night we checked in.
The food was OK, nice selection for vegans but felt the food could have been hotter. It was warm at best, however was edible. Out of a selection of vegan desserts only 1 item was available. No drinks menu available in the restaurant which I found a little strange.
I didn't receive any confirmation from the hotel, which I was expecting. I did contact the hotel via email the morning of my booking to ensure it was booked as I didn't wish to travel and be disappointed. Again I did not receive any reply, which I found very odd.
All in all it was a nice stay, would I stay again? Probably not but it served a purpose. I feel if a hotel is going to offer a package deal they should ensure the customer receives all of that deal and not just part of it.

Four of us have just stayed here for the one night with a groupon deal which included a two course dinner and breakfast. The rooms are in need of an update but they certainly weren’t the worst we have stayed in and we could see one of the blocks was being decorated.
We used the pool, jacuzzi and sauna which was nice and quiet as there weren’t many guests staying for obvious reasons.
When we went down for dinner the staff had been informed the hotel would be closing after Boris’s announcement but they were still upbeat, friendly and polite towards us all.
Our meals were excellent and we couldn’t fault them in any way. Breakfast had to be served in our rooms and we were asked in the evening what we would like.
All in all it was a really good stay and we would definitely stay here again.

Pictures on website make this look like a wonderful old country hotel in an Northamptonshire hall, however the majority of the rooms are in bland 1970s blocks. Very much a conference venue and not a place for holidays or family stays.
Carpets, furniture and decor throughout all looking dated, grubby and tired. In the room half the lights did not have bulbs or did not work. The 2nd floor bedrooms were horrendously hot and the provided fan did little to improve things, two very uncomfortable sleepless nights. The surfaces in the bedroom were dusty and the bathrooms were not clean, had to use dettol wet wipes to clean before use bit worrying when cleaning should be at the highest level due to Covid.
The breakfast room was small for the number of people and slow due to nothing being self service or table service, the food quality was average but not what i would expect in a 4 star hotel.
Booked for a swim on the understanding the small pool would be used by max 3 people from one family bubble, go in to find four men in the pool, the pool is so small did not feel comfortable or covid safe so walked away.
Based on other reviews we did not choose to have dinner at the hotel and local pubs provided better ambiance, food quality and relaxation.
The redeeming feature are the staff who are all great, friendly, helpful and polite. The facilities must make the 4 star but in reality this is more like a 2-3 star, hotel. Would not rush to stay again.

As always an immaculate room and fantastic facilities.
The staff have obviously been very well trained regarding the current strict regulations. Breakfast was really well organised with a pre booking system and executed perfectly.
Due to current circumstances jacuzi and sauna unavailable but this was well advertised when booking. swimming pool available via pre booking.
outstanding value for money. The hotel has done a really good job of maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout and have put a lot of thought into keeping guests and staff safe during these difficult times.
fantastic gardens and beautiful scenery surrounds the Hall making it a fantastic venue for a getaway, thank you to all the staff for making our visit memorable.

My husband booked a surprise night away at your 4 star hotel staying Saturday 13/11/21.
When we arrived we saw this lovely old house, then to the left only what I can say resembled Butlins accommodation blocks.
We checked in, I have to say the young man was lovely very polite and happy, we did ask for a quiet room, we had booked an executive room at £130 including breakfast, the young man gave us room 102, in the Butlins wing, on the way to the room you have 3 different mismatched carpets, the carpet on the stairs is frayed and coming off.
The room itself was lovey and clean, was very disappointed no king size bed, expected really in a 4 star executive room.
We tried to put the radiator on, it doesn’t work and the knob just comes off, we had noticed a heater in the hallway so bought that into our room.
We then visited the pool, the ladies changing room was filthy hair all over the floor, towels piled high on the lid of the overflowing basket.
The pool itself was small and tired the hot tub was very hot ( lovely for us ) but all the white grids had come loose and were floating about.
On our way out for dinner I did mention the changing rooms and no heating in our room and that we had taken the heater in that was outside.
I will say we did sleep well.
Breakfast was not what I expected or am used to in a 4 star hotel, no good Morning from the young lady on the door, she just asked our room number then said find a table and help yourself, at minimum we would expect to be taken to a clean table and offered tea, coffee and fruit juice or water, it was nothing more than a motor way service station restaurant.
Watching staff clean tables was a worry if a couple had sat at a table for 4 when they left the only bits being cleaned were where they had sat , surely the whole table should of been cleaned and 4 sets of new cutlery put out not 2, especially in these trying times.
I asked for some croissants was told they would be a couple of minutes 10 minutes later some danish and pan eu chocolate were brought out, I asked again for the croissants and was then told oh we have run out, I had been stood there for 10 minutes total lack of communication between your staff.
All in all I would not class this as a 4 star hotel, very misleading pictures you think you are staying in this lovely Manor House in reality it’s not much better than Butlins.
Certainly not worth £130 a night.
This is thee ail I have sent to the hotel and am awaiting a reply

My husband and I booked a room with you for the 19th July 2018, it was the night of our wedding. We prepaid a special rate and were happy that we had secured a bargain at a reputable hotel where we could be sure of a lovely room and great service. We arrived at your hotel on that evening after our reception in Boughton, with our extremely tired and quite tearful daughter who insisted on being with us, the clothes we were wearing (wedding Dress etc..) a bottle of champagne and nothing else. To be told we had to pay £90 for the room as i'd not paid. This i knew to be untrue as i'd actually gone to cancel this booking to book the groupon deal for 2 nights and dinner and it was a no cancellation allowed payment upfront. This I insisted to your employee numerous times, I also explained we had no money phones etc on us as we had just come from our wedding. After some time arguing over this payment much to the distress of my daughter, my husband and myself, my husband found an envelope with money in it his best man had returned to him as I had pre paid something for that day. We paid the Bill again, my husband and I had words as he questioned if I had prepaid and we went to our room. On checkout your receptionist confirmed we had prepaid and returned the cash payment to my husband. I'd like to say how distressing the whole episode was and how utterly disappointed we are in your hotel and customer service.

While you see the pictures on the website of a grand, big house, the rooms you actually stay in, are nothing more than abhorrent. The prison block style building is unappealing to start but inside, the characterless walls seemed to be everywhere. With carpets extracted from a 1970s public bus, the bedrooms were small and had no life in them. The bedsheets were stained, and the valance had questionable white stains. The Z-beds were very poor, with the thinnest mattress, and missing springs.
The breakfasts were nothing to shout about. There weren’t even hash browns. The fruit looked like it had been cut the night before and was painfully dry. I wouldn’t bother paying the £10 for it.
We were there for a wedding and after working in weddings for several years, I had high expectations. They were not met. We were greeted by a drink; you can’t go wrong with Pimm’s. The bar was lifeless and damaged, and the staff looked tired and uninterested. It made it all a bit impersonal that other hotel guests were using the same location as the wedding party.
The food was dreadful to say the least. The pate was a mush that was texture less and almost inedible. The ‘salad’ was brown and wilted. The roast chicken was a poor excuse of a portion, one chicken breast and three potatoes? The gravy was heavily salted. THE GNOCCHI oh my, the gnocchi was awful. I have never tasted something so foul. Was it out of a tin or out of the bin? For the evening food, a sad excuse of a BBQ was served. See attached the picture of the burger, you make your choice here.
Overall, don’t bother here. The £80 for the room was massively overspent and the food was incredibly disappointed. Go elsewhere.

I was there for a conference and booked in for an extra night before.
After the first morning I put the hanger on the door to indicate my room was ready for a refresh. The only thing that was touched was the bed!
Bin not emptied, shampoos etc not replaced. Poor.
Sunday morning breakfast was only 8am to 10 am and was a pretty lackluster offering for the £10 charged. Sunday mornings are designed for longer leisurely breakfasts.
Can I extend my checkout? Nope... well OK... 15 minutes.
The staff seemed lovely but handcuffed by rules, not free to help guests.
Oh and the food for the conference evening event was poor (the service was great, but I expected more from the meal! I am still not sure what my starter was!)

Booked here for a weekend away with my partner. First impressions were not what we booked. You drive into the car park and come across what I can only describe as annex’s, or like a temporary build, we thought maybe that’s where they do events, but no after checking in (girl on front desk was lovely) we had to walk 10 minutes to the room itself, I can only explain the rows of rooms as worse than a travel lodge, the doors are literally next to each other, they couldn’t have crammed in another if they tried. Inside the room was dull (not even a main light) The “stunning views” was the car park, there’s conjoining doors inside the room so your literally separated by a piece of ugly brown thin wood that gave 0 security & you can hear the people next door. So I complained at the front desk as 1. It’s false advertising. 2. The room was completely run down & 3. There was construction happening next to our room as we were on the end of this oddly shaped row.
We were given an upgrade to a room upstairs, great we thought, until we got inside & realises it’s the same room with a bigger headboard & a fridge. I forgot to add the first room had 0 inside no towels, no fridge no tea or coffee facilities. We were greeted to a strong smell of illegal substances (not sure if I can post which but there’s only one you can really smell that I know of) To which we found bags of this substance in a cupboard next to the fridge, used slippers next to the bed & apple cores & pips next to the desk. So again we leave the room & I speak to the assistant manager (again) who was apologetic and accepted the fact we could no longer stay in this hotel. She promised us a full refund but unfortunately couldn’t work the new system, but that it would be dealt with on Sunday. Sunday arrives & I have to call (again) and she tells me the person who could do the refund has been told not to. But that I would receive a call on Monday with the full refund. Today is Monday I received no phone call so phoned myself at 2pm to be hurled with an angry apparent manager who refused to give me her name telling me she will not be giving me a refund because they need to investigate. Absolutely shocking. We couldn’t stay in this hotel, it was dirty & had illegal substances inside the rooms. But we have been charged for this? I highly recommend staying anywhere but here! AVOID at all costs!

We booked Sedgebrook Hall for a wedding anniversary break. We were looking for a little idyll in the country, for relaxation and seclusion.
After we booked, we read the reviews and became a little worried by some of them. We need not have been. It’s a lovely hotel.
We booked a superior room. It was spacious, recently modernised with robes, slippers and a very nice tea tray. Lots of electricity sockets. The bathroom was roomy and modern with a large shower and full sized good quality toiletries available to use.
We had lunch in the bar. There was a wedding in the function room, which was having a lull so the staff could reset for the wedding breakfast, so most of the guests were either in the bar or outside on the patio/garden seating. Despite the wedding, there was room for us to eat, and the staff were extremely friendly and attentive. One even offered to take a picture of us when she saw us taking a selfie for our anniversary. They could not have been more friendly or helpful.
A little later we had drinks outside in the patio/garden area. It was so relaxing in the autumn sunshine, and I was very taken with the beverage stations they have in the bar where you can get a coffee, tea or hot chocolate.
The gardens are beautiful. The hall was formerly home to the Marlow family and in 1928 Irene Marlow got married nearby and had the wedding reception at the Hall. There are famous photographs (which can be seen on the Hall’s Wikipedia page) of the wedding party walking from the garden into the Hall. The history of the Hall is wonderful and we felt it as we walked through the garden.
There is a small garden area with a Japanese pagoda and seating, a summer house, statues, a long lawn walk to the house, the original driveway with a Narnian style lamp post and beautiful ornate iron gates in a secluded tree area and lots of seating.
We found the Reception staff to be friendly and helpful. We had an easy check in/check out. At check in, they breakfast tends to be busier if you go later, so we went earlier and found it quiet, easy to get a table and the food was great. It got slightly busier as we were finishing and we asked if it would be ok to take our orange juice and sit in the (cool and comfy) bar area and were told “absolutely no problem”.
Overall, we loved this hotel, the staff, the room and the grounds. We also loved the hotel cat. His name is Clyde, he’s a large, cute, fluffy ginger Tom and sits on the raised patio area surveying the land and watching people entering and leaving. And he likes to be petted.
We arrived early for our September visit and were told we could use facilities. Plus leave cases at reception while we had meal at the bar
Pl ask Can I put a birthday cake in your fridge?
Hi - it was included in my rate, although I didn't use it.
Odd question. Yes they have heating in the rooms. Everything is under one room so you dont really need to go outside to visit anything like the gym or bar. Enjoy your stay.
