Detailed Reviews
A beautiful and tranquil spot. Fabulous for dog lovers - there was even a daily delivery of dog treats which was very exciting for our furry friend. We made good use of the dog exercise area and walked to Mappleton Sands for a proper run. Everything is immaculately kept and the owners clearly care deeply about maintaining a beautiful and wildlife friendly space. We will definitely return.

We had a wonderful friendly welcome when we cycled to this site on a weekend trip from Leeds to Hornsea on the Trans Pennine Cycle Trail (TPT). The campsite is a short cycle from the traffic free path that runs from Hull to Hornsea on the old railway line - route 65 of the National Cycle Network. We wanted to take hammocks instead of a tent to save weight on the bikes and Wood Lake Camping is a perfect site for hammock camping with three possible areas to put up hammocks. Roy and Cheryl had the site looking great after the long shut down and the toilet areas were spotlessly clean. In the morning we cycled down to the sea at Mappleton, where you can access the beach and there is also a cafe. We then cycled in to Hornsea and then back to Hull on the TPT. There was a covered area with a kettle and microwave and also outdoor bench seating. It is a lovely peaceful site.

This is our second stay at this site the First being in 2018 and what a fantastic site it was and didn’t think it could be bettered. But we’re back September 2022 and how Cheryl and Roy have worked to make this site even better it it kept absolutely spotless, they have made more hard standing for caravan and motor homes added 16amp hookup’s moved and made bigger the tent area and extended the fenced off dog exercise area. Definitely won’t be leaving it so long before coming back. The site is adult only so very relaxing and quiet as you are not babysitting someone else’s kids. If you wanted to own a site it would be one like this, Cheryl and Roy could not be anymore Helpful or friendly during you stay, This site deserves 10 stars not 5

We spent over 2 weeks on this lovely site over November and December. What a great find this is! The hosts Sheryl and Roy are really friendly and welcoming without being at all intrusive. The site is on the edge of a very quiet village and surrounded by trees. Most of the time we were on our own on the site and it was so lovely and peaceful. Pitches are gravel well drained and level and very well spaced. Toilets and showers are immaculate and water piping hot and rooms warm which was really good as weather was bitterly cold with even some snow. There is a kitchen for campers to use with toasters and kettle etc which although we did not use it im sure if we were camping in a tent it would be ideal. The site is brilliantly located for walks along the old railway track between Coniston and Hornsea and this was great for us Hornsea is approx 3m down the track. All in all a very special site with lots of wildlife including deer, geese and owls. No light pollution here either. If you have dogs there is a brilliant dog agility park for them im sure they will love it. We will definitely be back to this fabulous site and welcoming owners.

Good communication & travel instructions before the stay shows the highest regard for their visitors. A lovely & well thought out camp site in a great location. Not having an electric hook up wasn’t a hardship as a kitchenette on site provides safe phone charging points, a fridge, freezer & kettle etc.,2 showers provided plenty of hot water & both these & the toilets were regularly cleaned. The owners clearly appreciate wildlife ,which adds to the enjoyment & being Adult only makes it a Fabulous place to stay. Highly Recommend.

This is a little gem. Just back after a 6 night stay, caravans and camping. The caravan pitches are in the main hard standing, around a central grassed area. These are all level, big pitches, with loads of space, the owners could have fitted many more pitches if they'd wanted, so you never feel crowded. This are is surrounded by mature trees with grass pitches for tents and caravans in the trees. The facilities are clean and tidy, with a communal fridge freezer and tea/coffee facilities for the campers. The owners have a bungalow on site with a very small lake, with loads of ducks and geese. Lots of small villages nearby with the nearest pub just under 2 miles away. Local takeaways all deliver to the site, Hornsea just a short drive away, Beverley is 10 mins away, lovely market town to visit. 3 toilets and 2 showers will get busy if the site is full but we never had a problem or had to wait. Kept lovely very well manicured, all in all a little gem.

Absolutely fantastic (our favourite by far) Sheryl and Roy are brilliant, perfect hosts. 10🌟🌟It’s a lovely, peaceful and tranquil and very clean.
Sheryl and Roy are always busy with maintaining the site to keep it in excellent condition 😊 couldn’t ask for more.
Adults only, and very pet friendly, with a secure dog enclosure/excerise area.
If you haven’t tried this gem of a site…..you don’t know how much you are missing out, with a beautiful lake and woodland walk, if you decide to have a lazy day on site.
Thank you Sheryl and Roy, see you again real soon

This is a gem of an adults only campsite...beautifully looked after and with charming and helpful hosts who live on site. We have just returned home after a three nights stay with our motor home and wished we could have stayed much longer. We shall return...
It's really close to the seaside at Mappleton and also close to delightful Hornsea - both of which were perfect for our three dogs. Mappleton also has a superb tearoom, also dog friendly, where fresh food is served by charming staff.
The site has clean loos and showers along with grey and elsan disposal areas and a couple of fresh water taps. There's even a communal kitchen area with fridge, freezer, microwave and washing up facilities.
We pitched-up at the top of the site on grass with 16-amp power and it was perfect for our large dog-proof windbreak as well as my wife's electric car which was charged overnight by arrangement with the site's owners.
There are quite a few hardstanding pitches too and campers are welcome. What a joy to find such a charming, accessible and beautifully run site with helpful owners who seem to enjoy chatting to their guests.

We were unsure if we would like camping in a tent, it had been my first time camping as an adult........BUT......... we loved it.
The campsite was great, showers, toilets all clean. Sinks to wash pots and pans, new dish cloths provided. It was great, simple and great.
On arrival the owner met us as we arrived and told us of a few takeaways that delivered food which I had never thought of but we did use one of them on the Saturday.
The doggie activity area is fabulous and the dogs love it. We will definitely be returning to the site, lovely and relaxing. Thank you

Absolutely stunning location, 2 miles from Hornsea. Adult only, so peaceful and spotlessly clean, very well kept grounds. Lots of information on visiting local areas. Communal toilets and showers, meeting/chat area with seating and a pool table, honesty tea and coffee, fridge, freezers and lockers, a hairdryer with mirrored dressing table and chair. Pot washing 3 x large sinks with plenty of hot water. Dog exercising/agility area. The owners of the site were extremely friendly and informative, can't wait to visit this beautiful site again. A big thank you for making my stay a welcome one.
